Dr. Lai is board certified in both family and sports medicine and practices as a Primary Care Sports Medicine specialist in Long Beach, California. His clinical focus includes general medical care of athletes at all levels, general musculoskeletal care of all patients, sports physicals, sports concussions, and musculoskeletal procedures especially involving ultrasound guidance for joint and soft tissue injections.
Dr. Lai serves as the Head Team Physician for nearby California State University, Long Beach, and oversees the medical needs for over 400 NCAA Division I athletes. He is a volunteer team physician for Cypress Community College, and has provided sideline sports medicine coverage for numerous local schools including Cabrillo HS, St. Anthony HS, Los Alamitos HS, and Marina HS. He is a proud volunteer team physician for the Long Beach State Rugby club. He has participated in medical coverage at the Disney Half Marathon, the Tour of Long Beach, the FIVB World Series of Volleyball, amateur boxing shows, and the UC Irvine Zot Trot Triathlon.
Dr. Lai is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM), and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).His outside interests include running, cycling, auto racing, and listening to Vin Scully broadcasts of Los Angeles Dodgers baseball. He has run the New York Marathon (2006) and the Los Angeles Marathon (2015), and is a 'legacy' runner of the Long Beach Half Marathon.
