Philosophy of care
I value holistic and individualized patient care, taking into consideration physical, mental, and emotional health. I find the most joy in my work when I can help educate and empower you to live your happiest and healthiest life. I have an interest in women's health care, as well as a developing interest in breastfeeding medicine.
Why I entered medicine
I was always interested in complex puzzles, and was drawn to science research when I was in high school. After dealing with illness within my family, I pursued a career in biological sciences. I conducted clinical research after my undergraduate degree, and this is where I found my love of clinical medicine and internal medicine.
I then attended medical school at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine in Scranton, Pa. While in medical school, I realized that I was interested in managing complex patients, as well as being involved in the continuum of care from the clinic to the hospital, and throughout the patient’s stay. I was able to complete residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in internal medicine, which is where I found my passion for general internal medicine. I was lucky to have wonderful mentorship, and decided to pursue a career in general internal medicine and medical education. I completed a chief residency, which was focused on quality and safety education within the residency, and am now pursuing a career as a general internists and clinical educator.
Personal interests
When I’m not working I spend time with my husband, our daughter, as well as our cat, Josie. We love to relax by going to the local farmers’ markets, running on trails in the area, and cooking. I am also an avid spinner. I am excited to explore the area.
