Qualifications and Experience
Dr. Jennifer Mushtaler (affectionately known as OB JEN) is a Houston native. Her love of science and pursuit of knowledge was fueled at an early age growing up across from the Johnson Space Center. She graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor's of Science Honors in Electrical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Mushtaler worked for IBM and BSG before attending medical school at UT Southwestern Parkland Memorial Hospital. She knew that her true calling was women's health care the first time she saw the miracle of birth; This drew such a "Wow!" from Dr. Mushtaler that her attendings told her that she was destined to be an obstetrician/gynecologist. Dr. Mushtaler completed her residency in Fort Worth, Texas at John Peter Smith hospital. While there she was privileged to learn minimally invasive surgery from some of the nation's leading experts and presented research to the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. Following her residency, Dr. Mushtaler and her husband resided in the magnificent Pacific Northwest where she first entered private practice. Two children and five rainy winters later, the family returned to Austin, Texas. Dr. Mushtaler and her husband both enjoy the active athletic community here, participating, volunteering and sponsoring triathlon and running events. Dr. Mushtaler is a volunteer and contributing expert to DailyRx and HealthTap. She also volunteers her time on several hospital committees, including the OB Liaison Committee, which partners nurses and administrators and doctors to achieve best practices in women's health care. Dr. Jennifer Mushtaler founded Capital Ob/Gyn Associates of Texas in October 2010.

She is absolutely amazing!! Really glad to have found her and the entire staff. Easy parking. Nice people. Great office. Vey friendly.
She was so nice. She made what is usually a very uncomfortable situation very comfortable and natural. She was so friendly, helpful, and genuine. Highly recommend her!
Everyone was so friendly and Dr. Mushtaler took her time answering all of my questions. I will definitely be continuing my care here.
Very easy to talk to. She gave me a really great 1st impression I’m glad I decided to change obgyn.
Very friendly and uplifting personality. She is wonderful to talk to!
She's great and very knowledgeable. Very personable.
Dr. Mushtaler was awesome! She was honestly the nicest and most personable OB Gyn that I've seen in over 20 years. I was a bit nervous choosing someone from Zoc Doc and not from a personal referral but I'm so glad that I did. All of the great reviews she has are completely deserved as she is a wonderful doctor.
She was great. Very informative and answered all my questions.
While the wait was long, it is worth it for an experienced professional who ensures you are comfortable and takes the time to answer your questions. Besides, the wait time probably has a lot to do with schedules or late appointments. If time is tight, maybe try scheduling an appointment in the morning. If you are the first one there, you will probably be out quicker.
I went to dr. Mushtaler for a quick appointment about a yeast infection and missed period, I waited for about an hour in the waiting room, then when in the room with the doctor she didn't answer any questions about my period and pushed her believes on me after I stated clearly that I do not believe in a certain method of health care. She referred to my infection as "yeasty beasties" as if I was a child and I did not appreciate her talking to me like that, I came for a comfortable, professional invironment and just was not pleased. Also while doing my exam there was no one else in the room and I felt very uncomfortable. She was very unprofessional and wasn't very hygienic either. Other than her, I loved the nurses and lady at front desk.
Very personable and took the time to get to know me as well as keeping the entire appointment under an hour.
This was the second time I've had to wait on the examining table for over 1.5 hours to be seen (for a basic check-up no less). I got the impression that someone dropped the ball and forgot I was there because when the doc finally came in she did not apologize for the RIDICULOUS wait.
Polite staff, wait time was long, but she was delivering a baby. So once it was explained it was understandable about the wait time. Very pleased with my experience.
Love her! Everyone in the office was so friendly and helpful. And Dr Mushtaler is a great doctor.
Strange, to say the least. A normal appointment quickly devolved into a discomforting situation when Dr. Mushtaler started to share political comments and her take on "illegals" with me. Are you KIDDING ME? I'm here to take care of my health, and the last time I want unsolicited, whackaloon political commentary is when I'm sitting on the table in a doctor's office. This may seem like a minor mistake on her part, but the lack of professionalism and judgment that would lead a doctor to make these inappropriate comments to a new patient is concerning. I prefer my doctors to have a little more poise and emotional intelligence, and if she exercises this lack of judgment in conversation, then she has no business treating me. PASS!
she was very professional and addressed my concerns right away. Highly recommended.
I had severe prenatal depression, she told me to suck it up! I'm so lucky I switched practices before it was too late.
I have been seeing Dr. Mushtaler since I moved to Austin, for Annual Exams and some other concerns I had. Dr. Mushtaler is a good doctor, listens to your concerns and explains the issue very well. Unfortunately, my experience with some of her reception staff has been less than good. Past two visits, I waited for almost two hours each time. First time they forgot to check me in and I kept waiting. When they figured out, I did not get as much as one word of apology from the person at the front desk. She was very curt with me. Second time I received the same treatment (the wait was because the Dr. was attending to some emergency which I understand) and it was very stressful to be standing there in the doctor's office while the staff was being rude. Both time though, the doctor's assistant was great and she apologized on behalf of the front desk staff. My final straw was when I had an insurance claim issue and I called the doctor's office to seek guidance on that. The billing person wasn't listening to me, said they couldn't do anything and actually hung up on me and did not pick up the phone when I tried twice again. I was forced to leave a message for the office manager. I will wait a bit and contact the office if my insurance doesn't resolve the claim with the doctor's office. But sadly, I will have to look for another doctor as I don't want to deal with the front desk staff again.
She was professional, kind, and didn't judge. She was so easy to talk to, I immediately felt like I could open up to her. I just moved to this town and really liked her, and the staff. She is definitely my new doctor here.
So impressed! Dr Mushtaler is absolutely lovely! Smart, competent, warm and funny! Made me feel so comfortable! Entire staff was super welcoming! So happy to have found her!
Although I waited a bit once in the exam room, (to be expected at the doctors), I really felt like Dr. Mushtaler took the time to listen to my concerns and explain her recommendations and logic in simple terms. It's unfortunately rare to have a doctor that cares about you understanding your medications and decisions so I am glad to have found one that does!
Dr. Mushtaler was excellent , she listened to all my concerns and made me feel at ease. The entire staff was friendly. The medical assistant was fantastic and helped me get over feeling nervous . So glad I found this clinic. I highly recommend them.
She was very friendly!
She is so fun! Very nice and can tell she loves her job!
She is an amazing doctor with amazing advice and I look forward to seeing her throughout my women's and pregnancy health appointment.
Dr. Jen's entire office was so incredibly sweet and fun. The wait wasn't very long at all and they were very accommodating, even though I had lots of questions for such a simple, routine visit.
Dr. Mushtaler is wonderful. She is a great conversationalist, which help you relax.
Dr. Mushtaler and staff were super friendlyamd have a sense of humor. The assistant even gave me a rough estimate of when I would be seen after completing my paperwork instead of just letting me wonder why I haven't been seen yet.
I love Dr. Mushtaler! She's been my o.b. for 5+ years and I can't imagine a better doctor to have through pregnancy, delivery, and just regular check-ups. She's genuine, honest, and has a passion for women's health. I'm thankful we get to have her share with us as our family grows!
Great office! Everyone was friendly from the front desk to the nurse to the doctor.
Quiet good..She understood the problem quiet well.
Dr. Mushtaler is wonderful! It's my first pregnancy, and she's just as excited as I am ! She's easy to talk to and so encouraging - I recommend her to anyone looking for a good obgyn.
The wait was a little longer than I expected, but I was informed about the days events and understood things can happen, but during the whole I was reassured that they did not forget me. Everyone was really nice! The visit was great!
After reading many reviews on ZocDoc, I decided on Dr. Mushtaler. She was great. I only had to wait a few minutes in the waiting room. Everyone in the office was extremely friendly! I will definitely go back and I highly recommend Dr Mushtaler and her staff!
