The doctor is fantastic, a demonstrated listener with a calming bedside manner. The process of booking an appointment through his office is frustratingly dense. If you try to book via ZocDoc, I highly recommend calling the office number directly to confirm with them that you are looking to book an appointment with the doctor, since they have an internal system with multiple layers before your appointment is confirmed. Their system involves a screening questionnaire and no guarantee of an appointment unless the doctor has approved your questionnaire responses. It feels scammy at first glance, and is definitely not as convenient as it would seem based on their being listed on ZocDoc. But if you are looking for a psychiatrist whose care you want to trust in and return to for consistent guidance, Dr. Walker is an excellent provider.

They don’t comply with zocdoc’s app system. They use it to only advertise their office, but their schedule system is completely disconnected to zocdocs app.

The appointment process was faulted and lengthy. After booking an appointment through zocdoc, receiving a confirmation email for the next available opening (which was one week later), logging into the session, waiting for 20 minutes (10 before and 10 after) and the doctor not logging on - I emailed and called and was later advised by the doctors staff that they don't book through zocdoc. I gave it another chance and booked through their system (after completing a questionnaire and being "approved"). This process took another week. Two weeks after booking, I finally met with my doctor of choice for what I thought was my first session. I was advised by the doctor that I would not be meeting with them in the future and they'll choose another doctor for me. This did not feel right to me. I was then advised that the next doctor should reach out in 7-10 business days but if I don't hear from them I "may have fallen off" and to reach out. No, thank you.

Dr. Walker was very kind, professional, and empathetic. Would definitely recommend him for treating depression and anxiety. I saw him on a video call due to the shelter in place restrictions, and the zoom call went without a hitch.

This doctor has a lot of experience and tact. He seems to get to know his patients before letting them walk out with psychiatric meds on whim. He was very kind and patient as I was a total nervous wreck walking him through my symptoms. A great listener and completely non judgemental, knowledgeable...plus, a comforting voice, if this matters to you. And *YES*, the admin/intake system is definitely a bit clunky and caught me off guard, but be patient!!! It's totally worth the care you receive at the end. If this is your first/new psychiatry appointment, don't be afraid to let Dr. Joe Walker take care of you!

Wait time is short. He is good for medicine management, but his bedside manner isn't great if you want much more than that. He was honest though, which is helpful in it's own way.

He was the first psychiatrist I met with personally and I always have heard stories about people having to hop through different doctors to find ONE that actually cares and listens and tries to help. I got lucky! He's amazing. It was easier to relax and not be as stressed out with how he was the whole time. He was very attentive and while discussing a game plan together, he was asking about concerns and explaining everything to me.

Dr. Walker is incredible professional and understanding. I felt very comfortable communicating my problems to him without feeling any judgement. He's a wonderful doctor, and is the first doctor (of 5) that has actually taken the time to find the underlying issues and treat those with minimal medication.

This man is an absolute saint and I feel so lucky to have found him on ZocDoc. I had my first session with him today, absolute professional, extremely thoughtful questions, and authentic empathy for everything I was feeling. I highly recommend Dr. Walker to all folks - please do not let the negative reviews regarding the administrative system deter you from scheduling an appointment with him. The admins were very lovely to speak with on the phone and helped with the paperwork afterwards. No biggy.

After seeing Dr. Walker for the last 3 months, it is more than clear that he is an absolute expert in his field—and as a bonus, is a genuinely caring physician.
Unlike many doctors I’ve met, he doesn’t rush you out of his office, and actually takes time to get to know you personally as an individual.
He let’s you speak as much as you want about your symptoms, family and medical history, and after my assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, I am very optimistic about the improvements I’ve experienced.
He thoroughly provides his expertise through extensive knowledge in his field, offers concrete, actionable recommendations, and offers multiple routes for treatment—but most importantly, he listens to his patients.
He’s been kind enough to meet with me on a regular basis to asses and keep track of my progress, address any and all questions, and is an all around great doctor.
My experience has been wonderfully positive, and I will continue to work with him to manage my condition.
Very grateful to have been lucky enough to be apart of his practice and am happy to be seeing improvement in my symptoms as we continue working together to find the right treatment for my condition.

I was profoundly disappointed by my visit with Joe Walker and my interactions with SavantCare.
First of all, they called me repeatedly before my visit until I gave them my credit card information and signed paperwork specifying that I could be charged hundreds for cancelling less than 3 days before the appointment. This felt greedy, unnecessary and burdensome on the patient.
Next, I was led to believe that I was seeing a psychotherapist when I saw Joe Walker. At the conclusion of my visit, after speaking to him for 45 minutes about my life, he informed me that he was not a psychotherapist and really only handled intake and prescriptions. Even if I'd wanted a psychotherapist, Savant Care has none in San Francisco. So why was I there??
The experience felt deceptive, unprofessional and like a complete waste of my time. I'd really recommend looking elsewhere.

This place is unprofessional and not on top of their administrative duties. You can't just schedule an appointment on Zocdoc and expect an appointment. They didn't accept my insurance yet they showed up in my search results which means their Zocdoc information was always incorrect or they failed to update it.

Dr. Walker was my first experience with a psychiatrist. He is actually quite warm in person, and seemed like he would be helpful. That said, working with his administrative service, SavantCare, was really terrible. I was/am in a pretty low place and in uncharted territory, so I was in the need of support. Responses were slow, the "assistants" were not friendly or empathetic, there was no way to contact Dr. Walker directly in the case of an emergency, and eventually the responses stopped altogether. After suggesting a leave of absence, he agreed to write a letter for me, and then took 5 days to send it. After that, he/they never got back to my insurance company or the State to finalize my Disability after multiple contact attempts, so I've not been receiving pay for 4 weeks. I sent a final plea a week ago offering to pay for any time the process takes him and have heard absolutely nothing. It's all been incredibly disappointing. Even if he is unwilling to go through the disability process, I just wish he would communicate that to me so I can move on and plan for the financial burden.
Since then, I've found a new doctor who has been wonderfully responsive and helpful with the intimidating world of medications. His admin is responsive and helpful, and I have his direct line for emergencies. He doesn't do disability paperwork, but since that was never my motivation, I'm just happy to have someone who wants to help. There are good doctors out there.

Dr. Walker was incredibly easy to talk to, and his office space is incredibly comfortable. Despite having just met him for the first time, it felt like he truly cares for my well-being. He talked me through side-effects of every possible medication and how they could possibly react with current symptoms, which was incredibly helpful and definitely set my mind at ease.
