Joseph J. DeVenuto Jr., M.D. graduated Magna Cum Laude from La Salle University in Philadelphia and obtained his Doctorate in Medicine from Temple University School of Medicine. After completing his internship at Nazareth Hospital, he trained for one year in internal medicine. This training provided him with a comprehensive understanding of medical diseases and how they are associated with the effect and function of the eye. Many medical diseases cause unusual eye findings. The identification of these findings enables the diagnosis and treatment of many medical diseases.
He was completely trained at Wills Eye Hospital where he completed his residency in ophthalmology. In addition, he continued training at Wills Eye Hospital in a retinal fellowship which enables him to properly treat diseases and surgery of the retina.
Dr. DeVenuto served his country as a Captain in the United States Army for two and half years. He has also written and published many articles in ophthalmic journals, both nationally and internationally. Furthermore, he holds a patent for the insertion and folding of intraocular lenses that are utilized in cataract surgery.
