Dr. Joseph Russell is a Charleston native who grew up on James Island. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Charleston Southern University, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and received both the Outstanding Chemistry and Outstanding Biology Graduate awards. He then obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, where he was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society, and graduated Summa Cum Laude and first in his class. At graduation, he also received the Dean’s Award, recognizing his exemplary performance during all four years of medical school. Dr. Russell continued his training by completing a five-year residency in Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. During each year of his residency, he achieved the highest score possible on the national standardized exams that test knowledge of all areas of the specialty. As a culmination of Dr. Russell’s hard work and dedication to excellence, following residency he was granted the opportunity to complete one of the most sought-after fellowships in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery with world-renowned
surgeon, Dr. Andrew Jacono, in New York City. Dr. Jacono is a master facelift, neck lift, eyelid, brow, and rhinoplasty surgeon who consistently obtains the best results in the nation. Dr. Russell spent each day of his fellowship learning and mastering Dr. Jacono’s innovative techniques, and is excited to bring New York-quality facial plastic surgery back to his hometown.
Dr. Russell is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery and the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology in general otolaryngology, otology, facial plastic surgery, head and neck surgery, and pediatric otolaryngology. His otolaryngology—head & neck surgery interests include recurrent acute sinusitis, chronic sinusitis, nasal obstruction, thyroid nodules, and parathyroid disorders. His facial plastic surgery interests include deep-plane facelifts, neck lifts, brow lifts, blepharoplasty, closed and open rhinoplasty, nasal reconstruction, laser skin resurfacing, otoplasty, and Mohs reconstruction surgery.
Dr. Russell and his wife, Ruby, have two sons, and are currently enjoying all of the adventures these two rambunctious little boys bring to their lives. In their free time, they enjoy family outings to Charlestown Landing, Magnolia Gardens, the South Carolina Aquarium, the beaches, and just about anywhere with a salt marsh and water nearby.
