Dr. Garbus received his medical degree from Chicago Medical School, where he was a distinguished member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed his internship and residence training in General Surgery at North Shore University Hospital. He then went on to fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic, Florida. Board certified in both General Surgery and Colon and Rectal Surgery, with over a decade of practice experience, Dr. Garbus currently holds academic faculty appointments at both SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine and Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. A pioneer in his field, Dr. Garbus has established Long Island's first comprehensive Anorectal Physiology Lab performing Anorectal Manometry, Electromyography (EMG), Pudendal Nerve Studies (PNTML) and Endorectal Ultrasound. He also continues to be at the forefront of surgical techniques, performing advanced robotic colon and rectal surgical procedures. In addition, he is actively involved with teaching medial students, residents and fellows. He is a member of numerous professional societies including the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery and the American Urogynecologic Society. He is renowned for his expertise in female pelvic reconstructive surgery and is in Strathmore's Who's Who for his many accomplishments and proficient surgical skills. Dr. Garbus has contributed to countless publications and journals, as well as lectured on the latest surgical developments throughout his medical career and has been recognized as one of America's Top Surgeons.
