Julia Akkerman is a friendly and engaging podiatrist based in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Akkerman earned her undergraduate degree in biology from Boston University and accomplished her doctoral degree at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Akkerman then completed her residency in podiatric surgery at the Beth Israel Medical Center and her fellowship in wound care at the St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, both in New York.
Dr. Akkerman is Board-qualified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgeons and Board-certified in wound care through the Academy of Physicians in Wound Healing. She is a member of the American Board of Podiatric Medicine, the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, and the New York State Podiatric Medical Association. She is also certified in hyperbaric oxygen therapy as well as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) for the professional rescuer.
Dr. Akkerman is fluent in English and Russian, which allows her to cater to patients from diverse cultural backgrounds. Her consultations are consistently thorough to ensure that she is accurately diagnosing her patients and proposing the best plan of action to manage or treat their complaints.
