I have never had much results from therapy and after trying it with a number of different providers over the years I really believed that it is just not useful or effective for me. Julia is in another league - it's more like what I always hoped for but never found from a therapist. She is very intelligent and offers incredibly helpful insights. In a perfect world she would be in-network, of course, but I can understand why it is not worth it to deal with insurance providers if you are as good as she is. Would recommend her to anyone, with the caveat that it is a serious investment.

More about Dr. Julia Beltsiou, PsyD

The goal of my work with you is to support your development and help you make your life more fulfilling. Most of my patients are smart and capable people who come to therapy because something in their lives has felt stuck or "not quite right." I respect your intelligence and ability to be a full collaborator in this process. I aim to establish a space in which you feel safe to freely express your thoughts and feelings. I listen closely to you and share my questions and observations with you. We will examine the complex meanings of your experiences, memories, dreams, and relationships. Good psychotherapy alleviates your personal suffering and increases your capacity for love, work, creativity, and aliveness. I completed my predoctoral training at Columbia Medical Center, and my postdoctoral fellowship at Columbia University Counseling Center. Before going into full-time private practice, I worked at several universities, last in the capacity of Assistant Director of the counseling center at Fordham University. I completed psychoanalytic training at NYU, where I have received four awards. I supervise clinicians in training and psychologists, and present at national and international conferences. I edited a book on working with immigrants and international transplants in psychotherapy. Areas of specialty are treatment of anxiety and depression, relationship problems and sexuality, infertility, prenatal and postnatal mental health, immigration and acculturation, childhood trauma, creative and work blocks. My clientele comprises a diverse group of people of different ages, nationalities, ethnicities, sexual identities and orientations. I see adolescents, adults, and couples.

It was my first appointment and it was only 5 minutes in and she kept pressing me about the payment for the session. After that she periodically kept bringing up the money. I feel like she wasn't listening to me at all and was just thinking about getting payed

I feel very good about my work with Dr. Beltsiou. She takes me and my concerns seriously. She is clearly smart and thoughtful but more importantly she is sensitive and warm. A well-trained clinician- I can highly recommend her.
