More about Dr. Julie Balan, MD
Many things attracted Julie Malhotra Balan, MD, to choose a career in family medicine, but her greatest desire was to be able to directly help people, improve lives and make a meaningful contribution to her community. She was particularly interested in primary care where she knew she would have opportunities to build long-term relationships with her patients.
“I want to be a resource for my patients and a source of continual medical care. I believe that most diseases are preventable and manageable. I treat my patients as I treat my own family.”
Dr. Balan grew up in Burma and speaks both Burmese and Hindi as well as English. She earned her medical degree in 2007 from the University of Medicine in Mandalay, Myanmar. The following year she completed a 1-year residency at Mandalay General Hospital.
In 2014, she entered a 3-year residency program at PIH Health Family Medicine Residency in Whittier, CA. During her residency with PIH Health Hospital, she received additional training in palliative medicine and chronic disease management.
When not at work, Dr. Balan enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking and sightseeing.
