Jun “Cecilia” Zhao graduated from UT Austin with BS degree in nutrition in 1997 and Texas Woman's University with MS degree in nutrition in 2001. She started practicing clinical nutrition counseling in 1998 and then transition to diabetes education and counseling in outpatient diabetes centers, primary care and endocrinologist offices since 2001. She enjoys utilizing all the new innovations to help patient manage diabetes. At same time, she sees many barriers, emotional challenges, and financial burden face by patients in the chronic disease management. She is an empathetic “people’s person” and compassionate to help patients improve quality of life by simplifying eating regimen, minimizing the need for prescription medications and improving energy level and stamina.
I am a firm believer of using food as medicine and using functional medicine approach to treat root causes of disease. I believe all diseases start with unbalanced nutrition. My service is to guide you to build YOUR own individualized healthy dietary habit that you can sustain to manage all chronic diseases including diabetes, prediabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, etc. As Diabetes Education Specialist, I am very familiar with all the diabetes related medications and gadgets including continuous glucose monitoring devices, glucose meter, insulin, insulin pumps, etc. I can help you stabilize blood sugar level through proper nutrition, exercise, and healthy lifestyle habit. I am your one stop shop for diabetes management by providing both Diabetes Education and Medical Nutrition Therapy. With combined 24 years of clinical nutrition and diabetes experiences, I helped many patients lower their A1c level to 2% or more and lose 10 pounds or more.
