Dr. Garvey is one of the most attentive physicians I've been to. She and her staff take their time to listen to any concerns, and are thorough in their own questions and evaluation. I've been going to her for about five years now, and have recommended her to a couple of friends as well.

Karen M. Garvey, MD, MPH, FACP is an Internal Medicine and Occupational Medicine Physician. She has a diverse background in primary care, corporate administrative and clinical medicine and population based health and safety program development. Dr Garvey received her Bachelor of Arts undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with a major in the Biological Basis of Behavior and minor in Urban Studies. She received her medical doctorate from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, DC. After completing her Internal Medicine Residency at the Washington Hospital Center, Dr Garvey worked for Potomac Physician’s , a primary care Health Maintenance Organization, in Baltimore, MD, and then subsequently for Kaiser Permanente in Landover, MD. After working several years as a primary care provider, Dr. Garvey returned to school full-time to pursue a career in Environmental and Occupational Medicine, receiving a Master of Public Health degree and completion of an Occupational Medicine residency program from the then Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health, now the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University.

Doctor Garvey was "ok" she was nice and very professional and her receptionist is awesome! She is just very "stone faced" she doesn't show much emotion. She seems a little up-tight, but she definitely listens to what you have to say and makes a prognosis based on what you told her. For me I look for a doctor that is a little more enthusiastic, has a lot more emotion and smiles a little more so that I may feel more comfortable. I am on the fence about whether I would recommend her or not. I will say this though she is a "do it by the book" kind of doctor meaning she is not willing to do you any favors if it is not procedure.

The WORST..! Avoid at all costs! I had to choose this primary physician since it was the only doctor my insurance covered around my area. Out of my 26 years living, i have never met such a incompetent doctor. She constantly disregards my health problems every time i have seen her. Possibly due to saving my insurance company money. She barely comprehended any of my health matters that we discussed and felt at times that i knew what i was talking about more then her. This is absurd from a person with a doctoral degree. After every visit, i was told i would get a follow up call/message. You think that ever happened? Nope. Her improvident attitude clearly shows what type of doctor she is. The experience was so horrific that i proceeded to go back to my old primary doctor and pay Out-Of-Pocket. What a joke

I won't be going back.
I understand moving offices and upgrading to a new electronic medical records system can be time consuming...but I rescheduled my appointment for a date later in the month, and when I arrived my medical record was still not updated. Spending the appointment time trying to rebuild my medical history was a complete turn-off and let down. I won't be back.
