Dr. Goodkin has been a member of the Committee on HIV Psychiatry (formerly the Commission on AIDS) of the American Psychiatric Association since 1992 and was a member of the APA’s original Work Group on HIV/AIDS Practice Guidelines -- published in the American Journal of Psychiatry in 2000 and revised in 2006. He was a member of the Algorithms Work Group of the Frascati Conference committee reviewing the American Academy of Neurology’s diagnostic criteria for the HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) published in December, 2007, in Neurology. Dr. Goodkin was given the Distinguished Service Award in 2004 by the American Society for Microbiology for his services as an Editor of the Journal, Clinical and Diagnostic Laboratory Immunology. He was the chief editor of the book, The Spectrum of Neuro-AIDS Disorders: Pathophysiology, Diagnosis and Treatment, published by the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Press, Inc., in 2009. He is a member the American College of Psychiatrists and served on its Scientific Program Committee for the 2013 annual meeting. Dr. Goodkin has been a member of the Neurology Collaborative Science Working Group (formerly the Neurology Sub-Committee) of the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) since 1996. He has served on the Mental Health, AIDS, and Immunology Review Committee of the NIMH and has been a member of review committees for other NIH institutes, including NIA, NINDS, NIDA, NCMHD, NIDR, and the NEI. He is a founding member of the International Society for Neurovirology and a charter member of the Society on Neuroimmune Pharmacology. Dr. Goodkin served on the consensus panel on the management of older patients with HIV infection published by the American Academy of HIV Medicine in 2012. He currently serves on the Neuropsychology Work Group of the Multi-Center AIDS Cohort Study (MACS). He has also served on the external advisory board to NIAID for the Women’s Inter-Agency HIV Study (WIHS).

The doctor was very empathetic and listened to the reasons I was seeking care. He asked very pertinent questions, and made it clear it did not wish to over-medicate me. He gave me multiple opportunities to ask questions. I did not feel rushed or quickly categorized. I will definitely meet with him again. I felt very comfortable speaking with him
I felt incredibly comfortable with Dr. Goodkin! He listened to me and didn’t make me feel rushed. He gave me his contact information and when I had an issue with one of my medications he fixed it within minutes and I just really appreciate that level of attentiveness!
