Dr. Karla Alba earned her undergraduate degree in biology from The University of Texas at Austin and her medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She completed her residency in family medicine at UT Health San Antonio Medical School and a fellowship in reproductive health at the Institute for Family Health in New York City. Dr. Alba, who is board-certified in family medicine, treats patients of all ages and speaks fluent Spanish. In addition to her board certification, she also holds a certificate in basic life support. As a family medicine physician, she sees patients for acute care (such as flu, asthma and injuries), chronic care (such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, anxiety and depression) and preventative medicine, including cancer screenings. Her primary clinical interests include adolescent medicine, reproductive health, mental health and preventative medicine. Dr. Alba’s approach to care is to provide team-based, patient-centered medicine that integrates mental health. She wants her patients to see her as understanding and caring and to feel that, as a team, they came up with the best treatment plan to fit the patient’s lifestyle. I just moved to Houston as my company relocated me, and was so excited to have found a female Primary Care physician very close to my home. I went in for a 10:40am yearly Physical, fasted for 8hrs, filled out all initial new patient IPad information which took about 30min. (front desk lady appeared to be non empathetic towards any of the patients in the waiting room, firm with no smile!) finally was seen by Dr. Alba, she appeared rushed and was asking questions she was reading off her computer, no relevance to why I was there! She was not listening to my concerns and she rudely said: "this is a physical, you need an appointment for answers to your concerns!" I was sent to suite200 Quest for lab work, they said I had to wait till 3:20! This was the worst Doctor's visit experience I have had in almost 4 decades:( I had to go back to work at 3 and therefore NOTHING WAS ACCOMPLISHED TODAY:( just AWFUL
