Dr. Kathleen Ellison specializes in adult and pediatric dermatology. She is a member of
the American Academy of Dermatology and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor
Society. She has presented at national and regional dermatology conferences and
published articles in peer-reviewed medical journals. Dr. Ellison received her
undergraduate education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she
graduated Phi Beta Kappa. Her medical education brought her back home to Tennessee,
and she earned her M.D. at Quillen College of Medicine. She completed her residency in
Dermatology at Georgetown, where she served as the Chief Resident for global health.
During residency, she had the opportunity to train at Children’s National Medical
Center, the National Institutes of Health, and Washington Hospital Center. She also
provided dermatologic care in Botswana as part of the American Academy of
Dermatology’s global health program.
Dr. Ellison enjoys diagnosing and treating a wide variety of conditions especially acne,
rosacea, atopic dermatitis/eczema, psoriasis, and skin cancer diagnosing and treatment.
The most rewarding part of her job is meeting and building relationships with her
patients and helping them feel more comfortable in their own skin.
She enjoys reading, trying new restaurants, spending time with her family and her dog,
and traveling in the U.S. and abroad. Dr. Ellison has visited 34 countries and five
continents so far! She enjoys taking cooking classes while traveling and trying to
replicate recipes when she gets home.
Dr. Ellison now lives in downtown Washington, D.C., and enjoys reading, traveling, and
trying new restaurants. She looks forward to treating patients of all ages in Fairfax.

The entire visit was outstanding. The support staff, nurse and Dr. Ellison were most professional, courteous, patient, and understanding. Each took the time to explain what I could expect to happen during the visit. Most refreshing.

I went to this dermatologist for hand eczema. After a bad experience with a dermatologist (Oxon Hill- 210) previously, I wasn’t sure if I’d go back to a doctor. The entire office staff here was kind (and had personality). Dr Ellison was able to diagnose, explain my issue, and I am noticing great results. I don’t write reviews but I’m doing it now so obviously I would definitely recommend Dr Ellison.

Dr. Kathleen Ellison was phenomenal! She was attentive, thorough, and detail oriented. She explained not only what she was doing but why in a way that didn’t make me anxious. The total time, one hour, included arrival, wait time and paperwork for a new patient, examination, removal process, and follow up questions and answers. I found my new dermatologist!

Dr Ellison was great. She listened and talked through options. Unfortunately her assistant left MUCH to be desired. She confused me at multiple times, checked my blood pressure completely wrong and wasn’t polished in her conversation. I recommend her being trained again and shadow a more senior person. I understand being new however this was beyond new. If I encountered again, I likely wouldn’t return. And until I see different I would not recommend Dr Ellison because of these concerns. I hope they can be addressed.

Dr. Ellison greeted me with a smile the minute she walked in. That first impression made me feel extremely comfortable, welcoming and at ease. She took the time to listen to me without any interruptions and gave me great feedback about my condition. She had given me so many “why this could happen” followed by great explanations. Dr. Ellison is an extremely intelligent dermatologist who is amazing at her job. I had been looking for a new dermatologist for a while and I am happy to say she has gained a faithful patient at the practice. Thank you very much for treating me today!
