Kathryn L. Thompson, OD is a board certified Optometrist and a member of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. She is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with a Bachelors of Science degree. As an undergraduate she was an active member of the AfO National Service Fraternity and American Red Cross Club at Virginia Tech.
Following undergrad, Dr. Thompson received her Doctor of Optometry degree from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2008 and graduated with clinical honors in Low Vision Services and Primary Care. Dr. Thompson continued her optometric training through residency at Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salem, Virginia. As a resident, she specialized in hospital based optometry and ophthalmologic co-management of glaucoma, ocular disease, inflammation, trauma, retinopathy, laser surgery, and cataracts.
Dr. Thompson has extensive experience in family eye care, including dry eye management, eye surgery co-management, children’s eye examination, adult eye care and low vision consultation. Additional services include comprehensive eye care for all ages, contact lens fitting, and low vision rehabilitation to help individuals with visual impairments live a more productive and independent life.
Dr. Thompson utilizes innovative strategies to improve the delivery of high quality eye care services and clinical outcomes to provide excellence in patient care, education and research to meet the ever-changing needs of the community.
