Kevin Ko MD, D.ABA, is a dual trained board-certified anesthesiologist and fellowship-trained interventional pain specialist at Samwell Institute for Pain Management, which has locations in Colonia, Livingston, and Englewood, New Jersey.
Dr. Ko underwent general surgery training at Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey, and completed his anesthesiology training at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He then went on and completed an ACGME-accredited interventional pain fellowship at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. It is Dr. Ko’s unique surgical and Anesthesia training that led him to pursue a career in interventional pain medicine. With his unique skillset, he is able to utilize his understanding of complex pain and advanced procedure training to diagnose and treat a variety of different causes of chronic pain with safe and evidence-based therapies. Dr. Ko also serves as Director-at-Large of the New Jersey Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Ko has developed a passion for improving his patient’s function and quality of life via a wide range of interventional therapies. He treats headaches, neck, shoulder, back, knee, leg/sciatica, and pelvic pain by performing procedures and injections under precise fluoroscopic image guidance. His areas of expertise include minimally invasive spinal procedures such as cervical, thoracic, and lumbar epidurals, stellate ganglion blocks, facet joint treatments such as cervical, thoracic radiofrequency ablation, sacroiliac joint fusion, minimally invasive lumbar decompression (MILD), interspinous spacers (Vertiflex procedure), and endoscopic rhizotomy and discectomy.
Dr. Ko also specializes in neuromodulation therapies such as spinal cord stimulation, dorsal root ganglion (DRG) stimulation, and intrathecal pump placement. In addition, he is also well-versed in ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve injections to alleviate pain for his patients.
