. Brooke Pengel, MD, is a board-certified pediatric sports medicine specialist with a decade of experience devoted to treating youth sports injuries. In July 2010, Dr. Pengel proudly joined the Rocky Mountain Youth Sports Medicine Institute, an affiliate of Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children, as Medical Director of the youth sports medicine program.
Prior to joining the Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children, Dr. Pengel pioneered the Sports Medicine Program at the Children’s Hospital in Denver. Dr. Pengel's directorship at the Children's Hospital fostered a nationally recognized sports medicine program. As a result of her dedication to the field of sports medicine and her efforts in developing a nationally recognized program, Dr. Pengel was recognized by her peers in 2009 as a “Top Doctor” in the field of Sports Medicine (as published in 5280 magazine).
Dr. Pengel now brings her nationally recognized skills and talents to the Rocky Mountain Youth Sports Medicine Institute, where she continues her dedication to providing expert care and treatment to young athletes.
Dr. Pengel received her medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency at the Children’s Hospital/University of Colorado School of Medicine. She served as pediatric chief resident at the University of Connecticut prior to returning to the University of Colorado to complete her fellowship in Sports Medicine.
Dr. Pengel's experience in academic medicine at Children's Hospital fostered her passion for teaching which continues to this day. Dr. Pengel regularly presents lectures to local physicians, coaches and parents on issues related to the prevention and treatment of youth sports injuries. Dr. Pengel is also active in sports-related community service, serving for example, as a team physician for numerous high school and college teams throughout the Denver metropolitan area. In addition, Dr. Pengel has authored several book chapters on sports medicine.
Dr. Pengel is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Sports Medicine, and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. She serves on the Council on Sports Medicine and Fitness, a section of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
As a former competitive tennis player and coach, Dr. Pengel relates to the struggles and issues presented to young athletes. While no longer involved in competitive sports, Dr. Pengel continues to enjoy many recreational sports such as running, biking, and skiing. She also enjoys an active Colorado lifestyle with her husband and three young children and she remains an avid sports fan.
