Dr. Kristaps J. Keggi earned his B.A. and M.D degrees from Yale University and after two years of general surgery at The Roosevelt Hospital in New York, returned to Yale to complete his training in orthopaedic surgery with Dr. Wayne O. Southwick. He then served in the Army and at a mobile surgical hospital in Vietnam. He has been a lifelong teacher and practitioner of orthopaedic surgery in the United States and abroad and is the recipient of several honorary degrees.
The Elihu Professor of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at the Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Keggi continues to perform tissue-sparing total hip replacements of the primary and revision types, through an anterior approach he first described in 1977. Sometimes called “minimally invasive,” it is best known for a rapid recovery and fewer postoperative dislocations. It is a procedure that is now becoming more popular throughout the country.
