As a gastroenterologist, Dr. Bookman is board certified in Internal Medicine and has completed extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, liver, and gallbladder. He has been in private practice since 1982 and in 1994 was a founding partner of Digestive Disease Specialists, Inc.
A native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Dr. Bookman completed both his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Oklahoma, graduating with honors. He did his residency in Internal Medicine at OU as well, and then went to the University of California Irvine for his Clinical Fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Dr. Bookman is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, and is a member of several professional associations including the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, the Arkansas/Oklahoma Endoscopy Society, and the American and Oklahoma Medical Associations. He is past president of the Oklahoma County Medical Society. Dr. Bookman received the Ed Calhoon, M.D. Award for Excellence in Medicine from the Oklahoma State Medical Association. In 2014, Dr. Bookman was honored by the Oklahoma County Medical Society with the Don Rinehart, M.D. Award for Lifetime Medical Achievement. He has published numerous research articles in professional journals.
