I initially planned to be a child and adolescent psychologist, and that interest has guided my approach to child health, which includes more than just the body. As a pediatrician, I treat the whole child and make sure I consider not only the child's physical well-being but his or her emotional and psychological health, as well. Providing care for children gives me an opportunity to make a difference in their lives.
I like to meet children and families where they're at and empower them to take an active role in decisions related to their health. Relationships are built on trust, and my families and I both share the same goal of wanting what's best for each child. I like teaching and growing up with families and following my patients over the course of their lives. When my patients are old enough to start making their own health care choices, I work with them so they can achieve their goals and make positive choices for their lives. It's such a privilege to be a role model for a young person, and I value my work tremendously.
