More about Dr. Laurence Tecott, MD
Dr. Tecott has had a lifelong interest how psychological, environmental, neurological and genetic factors interact to impact mental health. After receiving his M.D degree from the University of California, San Francisco, Dr. Tecott pursued his interest in brain function through graduate study in Neuroscience at Stanford University. After receiving his Ph.D. at Stanford, Dr. Tecott completed a psychiatric internship at Yale University, and completed the remainder of his residency training in psychiatry at UCSF. In addition to clinical training in psychiatry, Dr. Tecott conducted basic neuroscience research, using molecular genetic methods to study brain mechanisms through which the neurotransmitter serotonin impacts behavioral processes relevant to mental health.
Upon completion of his fellowship, Dr. Tecott, joined the UCSF Psychiatry Department faculty, served as an attending physician engaged in the training of psychiatric residents and directed a basic neuroscience laboratory research program. Over the course of his 26 years at UCSF, Dr. Tecott’s laboratory contributed over 100 publications providing insights into brain mechanisms relevant to anxiety, depression, appetite, body weight and the actions of psychiatric drugs. Dr. Tecott has gone on to retire from UCSF to apply his extensive experience in neuroscience and psychopharmacology as part of a comprehensive approach to the treatment of depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, sleep disturbances, attention deficit disorders and obesity.
