What should a new client know about working with you?

Please note: I do not accept EAP programs. Saima Hanif, MSN, PMHNP-BC, is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner delivering evidence-based psychiatric care to people across the lifespan. She received her Master of Science in Nursing from Western University of Health Sciences and her PMHNP Post-Master's Certificate from California State University, Los Angeles, where she is currently completing her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). With Saima, you'll have a provider who gets to know you as an individual, not a label on a chart. She specializes in outpatient psychiatry and brings sincere compassion and clinical depth to detailed psychiatric evaluations and well-considered medication management. Her patients include children, teens, and adults coping with anxiety, depression, ADHD, bipolar disorder, PTSD and trauma-related conditions, and a variety of other mental health concerns. Expect your first visit to be in-depth and unhurried. You'll discuss the symptoms you're experiencing now and how they shape your daily life, your mental health and medical history, previous treatments and what they were like for you, and the goals you care about most. Having this complete context allows Saima to build a plan that's personalized to you instead of following a standard template. Honesty and partnership are part of every conversation. As you consider medication options together, she'll walk you through how each one works, what realistic improvement looks like and how soon it usually appears, and which side effects are worth monitoring, with your preferences guiding the way. To me, shared decision-making isn't a slogan; it's simply the way she practices. She's committed to creating a warm, accepting atmosphere where every question is welcome and your perspective directly shapes your care. When helpful, she also works with your therapists and other providers, because connected, consistent care leads to the strongest results as you move toward wellness.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Please note that I do not accept EAP programs. Care with each patient starts with a thorough psychiatric evaluation. During that first visit, I set aside unhurried time to understand the whole picture: your current symptoms, when they first appeared, how intense they are, and the ways they're shaping your everyday life, along with your mental health and medical history, treatments you've tried before and how you responded, your family psychiatric background, and the outcomes you're hoping to reach. I draw on DSM-5-TR criteria to reach an accurate diagnosis, because clearly understanding what we're working with is the foundation of precise, effective treatment. We then build a treatment plan as a team. Medication management is my central focus, and I prescribe carefully and in keeping with evidence-based standards. I'll walk you through how each medication works, what realistic improvement looks like and when to expect it, and which side effects to keep an eye on—always keeping your preferences and questions at the heart of the decision. My goal is for you to leave each visit feeling informed and truly part of the process, not simply handed a prescription. Follow-up visits center on tracking your progress, seeing how you're responding to treatment, watching for side effects, and making thoughtful adjustments when needed. While my appointments emphasize psychiatric evaluation and medication management rather than formal talk therapy, I always leave room to check in on how you're doing as a whole, work through any challenges, and provide psychoeducation so you understand both your condition and your care. I treat children, adolescents, and adults across a variety of conditions, and I partner with therapists and other providers to keep your care well-integrated. Between visits, I remain reachable for questions or concerns, because steady, attentive support drives the best outcomes on your path toward lasting wellness.
