I have seen a handful of psychiatrists over the past ten years. Dr. Root has been the best one I've ever seen. He is thorough with information regarding different mental illnesses and medications. He seems to genuinely care about the stability and overall health of his patients. I would recommend him to anyone looking for help with mental health. I have learned more about my diagnosis during the past year with Dr. Root than I have in the past 10 years seeing other doctors. For the first time in my life I feel like I am properly medicated! It has made a world of difference for me and my loved ones.
Dr Root is very personable. Most psychiatrists want to see you once every 3 months or so, but he wants to see you every month - at least till he gets to know you well and a relationship is established. I like that. Also, previous reviews had said his office staff was horrible but I found them very accommodating and friendly. The only reason I had a long wait time was because he saw me towards the end of the day and other patients had been running late. Dr Root said if you get an appt early in the day the wait is less than 30 minutes. Heads up though - you have to pay for parking (and I had a little trouble finding the parking entrance). My only complaint is that I booked this appt on zocdoc over 2 months in advance but they didn't confirm via zocdoc till two days before. I had tried to call their office a few times for confirmation but there line was always busy.

Very professional comfortable atmosphere. Doctor asked lots of questions seemed concerned w/my issues.
The doctor was very friendly and listened to what I had to say, a refreshing change.

I was under the care of Dr. Root for about 8 months. PROs Good location in downtown (St. Josephs) Good bedside manner. During our first consultation, we took the full time to talk about my situation and then discuss medication options. CONs Office doesn't take credit cards -- come on, it is 2016! Suggested they get a Square, responded "What's that?" :) Usually behind schedule due to Dr. Root's emergency appointments. Even first appointment often started 10-30 minutes behind schedule. Follow-up appointments were always very brief. Dr. Root didn't really delve deeper or ask probing questions.
I felt alienated and I felt as if I was a problem to the office including my PCP i feel as if the physicians Toyed with my life medications that I have been on since before 2009 the are refusing including Dr Root I have no Dr who cares but the but its not their problem they know which drs who will treat me and prescribed the necessary meds but they Dr care if I'm 9kay or alive the clonazepam1mg 3xa day leaves depressed feeling worthless but no one cares I'm just a mental patient right

Dr Root is very professional and personable. I felt very comfortable with him right away. Looking forward to my next visit. Thank you.
Very personable, cares about his patients. Friendly. I would recommend him to anyone nervous about seeing a psych. Be aware, the office only takes cash on the first visit and only cash/check on follow-ups. (There is an ATM in the building.)
Easy to talk to. Engaged. Listened well
His phone staff and after hours service is ridiculously RUDE especially for people who are experiencing very personal and debilitating experiences and need help urgently. I love Dr. Root -- but I may not return due to his office staff's failure to provide any type of human decency and compassion - and be willing to work with people who may be under heavy medications and in most cases, a tremendous amount of stress.
Very compassionate doctor. Staff is nice.
His staff was very nice & polite from the start. The office is clean & was pretty much full at my visit time. Talking with others while waiting got very good comments about Dr. Root. Another thing the Dr . comes out to get his own patients. Which I think is very nice. He is very attentive to you during your visit & likes to get to the core problems that you have. Then discuss your treatment plan with you & let's you agree or disagree. You are scheduled with your follow up before you leave & your scripts are already e-file to your pharmacy which is a plus I think. I recommend Dr. Root if you are in need of a new psych Doc.
The doctor took the time to fully understand all of my symptoms and made a calculated decision on the medicine to prescribe me. His staff on the other hand was the exact opposite of him and reflect very poorly and negatively on his practice so much so that I would not recommend a single one person to this office. This is a place where you would NEED to feel comfortable. The women whose only job is to sit at a desk and be the face actually told me "to find another doctor" simply because I called ONE time a day for four days straight because I needed to reschedule an appointment must've really offended this women bc she treated me like I didn't matter like I was just money and that's all they think of anyone. The doctor was kind and caring. This lady is a nightmare. She should be working at a haunted house not a psychiatrists office. I am so upset about how she treated me I've been off Antidepressants for four days now I was already unstable and the phone answering person decides hm I know the best way to handle this (me.. " I've not had medicine four days now. Do you just not even care?" Her.. "we're really busy you should find a new doctor") Dr root deserves better than this women she's making him look bad.
Very personable and easy to talk with. Has two counselors you can also schedule appointments with in concert with him which is great. Only downside is that they do not take checks on the first visit and their card machine was down. I am very glad I found such a great care team!
This doctor took the time to make us feel comfortable and seemed very concerned about what we had to say. I would highly recommend him to anyone wanting a down to earth, honest doctor thtat is straight forward and genuinely honest about your problem. He personally greeted each patient and took the necessary time to listen and disarm any concerns you may have with a problem.
Very caring Doc. Took his time with me.
