Lisa Parker, MSN, FNP-C, is passionate about promoting the highest quality of life for postmenopausal women, resolving obesity, pre-diabetes, and managing diabetes through lifestyle modification and functional medicine. She received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nursing from the University of Southern Mississippi and has been a practicing Family Nurse Practitioner for twelve years. She is certified through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, as well as certified as an Advanced Diabetes Manager, Diabetic Educator, and Medical Examiner for the Department of Transportation. Her background as a Nurse Practitioner is diverse, having practiced in both primary and acute care from rural health clinics to urgent care. Lisa also owned her own house call practice providing primary care to the underserved population of Southern Mississippi.
Lisa aspires to empower her patients to make changes leading to a healthier, happier life and looks to resolve the root cause of their chronic health problems instead of merely treating the symptoms. When working with her patients, she often uses the analogy, “how are you going to steer your ship?” With this analogy, she encourages her patients to take accountability, giving them the choice to continue steering their ship into rocky waters and ultimately crashing or to accept her guidance to help change direction with a forecast for clear skies and smooth sailing.
Originally from New Orleans, Lisa has a unique understanding of the chronic health crisis of pre-diabetes and diabetes. She and her husband moved to Ashland in late 2019 to build their own cabin and self-sufficient lifestyle. She enjoys growing her own organic food, skiing, hiking, fishing and crabbing, and hunting. Her personal passion is creating great-tasting organic, healthy meals.
