Dr. Lucio M. Pereira is a dedicated and compassionate ear, nose and throat doctor based in Washington, DC. Dr. Pereira is an attending physician in the department of Otolaryngology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. He is also a clinical instructor at Georgetown University Medical School. He treats all aspects of Otolaryngology with subspecialty in Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery. He has a special interest in the treatment of facial injuries. Dr. Pereira performed his general surgery internship and otolaryngology residency at Wayne State University, where he also completed a fellowship in Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery. He received his medical degree as well as his dental degree from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil. He completed a 2 year residency in General Surgery at Israel Pinheiro Hospital and a 3 year Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery fellowship at the Brazilian National Cancer Institute, Brazil. Dr Pereira has presented his research at numerous national and international meetings and has published several manuscripts and book chapters. His research interests include Head and Neck cancer, facial trauma and microscopic anatomy of the face. Dr. Pereira is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, the American Medical Association, the Brazilian College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and The Brazilian Head and Neck Surgery Society. He has received awards for his research and resident education. Dr. Pereira treats all aspects of Otolaryngology, with special interest in head and neck oncology, including cutaneous malignancies, salivary gland malignancies, skull base tumors and mucosal head and neck pathology, thyroid/parathyroid disease, as well as disorders of the larynx including vocal cord paralysis.
