Dr. Lyall Ashberg is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in pediatric orthopaedic surgery, minimally invasive hip preservation surgery including hip arthroscopy and robotic (MAKO) hip joint replacement.
Dr. Ashberg treats pediatric trauma and fractures, sports injuries, scoliosis, limb deformity, and congenital foot disorders such as club foot. In addition, Dr. Ashberg’s training in hip preservation surgery allows him to provide minimally invasive treatment of the hip in this cutting edge, rapidly developing area of orthopaedic surgery. Dr. Ashberg performs arthroscopic treatment of conditions such as acetabular labral tears, femoracetabular impingement (FAI), and borderline dysplasia. Lastly, Dr. Ashberg offers minimally invasive, robotic assisted (MAKO), anterior hip replacement surgery, with an emphasis on rapid recovery, including out patient surgery as an option.
Education and Training
Dr. Ashberg completed his medical degree and graduated with honors at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Florida Health Science Center in Jacksonville. He then finished an additional year of fellowship training in pediatric orthopaedics at Nemours Children’s Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.
He completed a second fellowship in hip preservation surgery at the American Hip Institute in Chicago which entailed not only extensive operative training in cutting edge, minimally invasive surgery of the hip, but also a substantial emphasis on clinical research in hip preservation surgery.

Dr. Ashberg and the staff at the pga office were FANTASTIC! I was beyond stressed and emotional over my 15 month old daughter fracturing her leg and they were absolutely wonderful in helping us get our appointment, seeing us quickly and making us all feel comfortable. Everyone was so friendly and knowledgeable and I’m beyond grateful for the excellent care we received there and would absolutely recommend this office and Dr. Ashberg.

Dr. Ashberg was compassionate, kind and knowledgeable. I found him online, for his hip arthroscopy and joint sparing residency. Of course, it was a huge disappointment that my extensive joint disease prevented my being a candidate for his surgery. But I was impressed by his sincerity and kindness.

I was very impressed. He was informative, personable, and attentive. The lady who preceded him was equally as impressive. I believe she was a sports medicine physician studying with him, though I can’t recall. I can’t express enough how impressed I am with the quality of service and personal attention the entire staff showed to my son. For sure will recommend them to anyone in the future. From setting the appointment to checking out, the entire staff was above and beyond what I anticipated.
