Dr. Mahendra N. Patel is a Board Certified Gastroenterologist/Hepatologist serving the San Fernando Valley, Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks areas. He has been in practice since 1990 and has recertified twice. The most recent recertification was in November 2011. Dr. Patel’s philosophy is to teach his patients as he provides excellent consultative and procedural services. He feels this approach leads to greater patient understanding and thus improved compliance with the treatment plan.
Dr. Patel performs routine endoscopy/colonoscopy, as well as more complex procedures such as biliary/pancreatic endoscopy(ERCP), Capsule enteroscopy (Pill Cam), placement of biliary/pancreatic and intestinal stents, and feeding tube placements (gastric and small intestine). He is one of only a few gastroenterologists who provide procedures for the treatment for hemorrhoids, Capsule Enteroscopy, placement of feeding tubes directly into the small bowel and Transendoscopic Incisionless Fundoplication (TIF). TIF is a relatively new procedure for the treatment of Esophageal Reflux without any incisions. This allows most patients to significantly reduce or eliminate symptoms of acid reflux and thus the need for acid suppressing medications.
Dr. Patel also believes in performing thorough evaluations, especially during screening colonoscopy. He has achieved Adenoma Detection Rates of approximately 50 %. The average for most gastroenterologists is approximately 25-30%. He feels that the more adenomatous polyps that are detected and thus removed, the lower the risk for developing colon cancer in the subsequent 7-10 years.
Dr. Patel is therefore an experienced physician who strives to treat his patients with compassion. He uses his skills as a physician and endoscopist to expedite his patients’ recovery. He welcomes you into his practice.
