About Amy Bontempo-Hernandez

Amy Bontempo, MSN, FNP-BC, admits she did not always picture herself working in the medical field. When she was eighteen, she pursued a career in cosmetology. However, when her son was born with congenital heart disease, she found a passion for nursing. Her son went through a number of open-heart surgeries at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. It was during this time she felt inspired by the nurses and decided to go back to school. She completed the nursing program at College of the Canyons while simultaneously working toward her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at California State University, Northridge. She then went on to work on a Medical-Surgical/Oncology unit at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Los Angeles. Although she loved her time spent serving our veterans, she eventually left the VA to pursue higher education with the goal of becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on Family Nursing at West Coast University and is now board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. In her spare time, she loves to spend time with her family, travel, or hang out on the beach. Amy has been a vegetarian for five years and loves trying new recipes.
