As a researcher, Dr. Dowell is working to develop new therapies for asthma treatment. She recently served as the primary investigator in one study that examined the mechanism by which smooth muscle -- tissue that lines the airway -- deforms and reforms its shape.
Dr. Dowell teaches medical students, residents and fellows about pulmonary medicine, and frequently is invited to present her work at regional and national lecture series. An accomplished author, she has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles, abstracts and book chapters on critical care.
