He completed his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis and went on to do an internship at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas in Galveston.
Dr. Oberlander was appointed chief resident of his ophthalmology program at the University of Texas where he was responsible for mentoring 12 residents at three hospitals.
