More about Dr. Michael Benke, MD
Dr. Benke completed his undergraduate education at Tulane University in New Orleans where he received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Biology. He received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine in 2007. He then completed residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at George Washington University in Washington, DC under the tutelage of Dr. Robert Neviaser, one of the premier open shoulder surgeons in the country. There, he was nominated as one of the American Orthopaedic Association's Emerging Leaders.Dr. Benke went on to complete advanced training in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at the Santa Monica Orthopaedic Group fellowship in Santa Monica, CA. There he acquired advanced techniques in cartilage restoration and transplantation from Dr. Bert Mandelbaum. He was also trained in the latest techniques of hip, shoulder and knee arthroscopy.
Dr. Benke served as a team physician to multiple high school, college and professional teams including the LA Galaxy Major League Soccer team.
Dr. Benke specializes in advanced arthroscopic procedures of the shoulder, knee and hip as well as cartilage restoration. Dr. Benke is the author of multiple articles in peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals focusing on these areas. He also is adept in orthopaedic trauma and joint replacement and reconstruction.
Fortunately, in orthopaedics and especially Sports Medicine, most injuries can be treated non-operatively, and this is always our primary objective. We do our best to keep patients and athletes active and on the playing field and out of the operating room.
Dr. Benke was born in Princeton, NJ and currently resides with his wife and two children in Northern NJ. He is proficient in Spanish.

We had scheduled our son the baseball player to get his throwing arm looked at a few weeks ahead. Then the weekend before his appoinment, my daughter fell ice skating. Her doctor recommended seeing someone and since we already were going, we asked if he could see both kids. We are so glad a neighbor recommended this practice. Staff was great and accomodated us. The doctor quickly identified the issues and treatments. X-rays were done right there. If you have to go, Dr Benke is a solid choice.

Very nice dr with good bedside manner. Not a long waiting time but it wasn't until after I left did I realize how rushed the visit was. Good and bad here. I wasn't angry and Impatient. I was in and out including my X-ray in uNder an hour.
But I left with questions. I forgot to ask them and even take a moment to think of them. No one asked if I had any. Maybe it would have triggered some. A little slower in the exam room would help. Overall a good experience.

This was my third appointment with Dr. Benke. I found him to be very knowledgeable and professional. I went to him two years ago for a second opinion because I was told I had to have surgery to treat my torn meniscus. Thanks to Dr. Benke I didn't have to have surgery and I've been active and pain free for 2 years now.

Doctor was good clear and straightforward and answered all my questions.
One minor issue was that I filled out all the paperwork for the documentation in zocod, zocdoc reminded to tell the office but the office still asked me to fill out the paper forms for all the same info. I was 30 mins early for the appointment so was easier for me to fill out again than complain.
