Dr. Michael L. Rinke, MD, PhD, is the Medical Director of Pediatric Quality at Children’s Hospital at Montefiore and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Rinke’s research focuses on the application of behavior change techniques and implementation science to improve the quality of care delivered to children in both the inpatient and ambulatory settings.
Dr. Rinke finished an institutional KL2 award and an AHRQ K08 career development award on pediatric ambulatory central line-associated blood stream infections (CLABSI). This work identified the epidemiology of ambulatory oncology CLABSI and surgical site infections (SSI) after ambulatory surgeries, and reduced harmful ambulatory oncology CLABSIs by 48%.
Dr. Rinke is the Principal Investigator on an AHRQ R01 grant which expands his K08 work to investigate multiple pediatric ambulatory healthcare-associated infections (HAI) and their epidemiology in a multisite cohort. Additionally, Dr. Rinke is the PI on an AHRQ R01 grant investigating the effects of a national quality improvement collaborative on ambulatory pediatric diagnostic errors.
Dr. Rinke completed his medical and pediatric residency training at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He received his Doctorate in Clinical Investigation from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Rinke spent three years as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins and has published widely in the field of pediatric patient safety and quality.
