My name is Miri Shaffer. I'm a speech-language pathologist, licensed in New York State and a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. I hold a Master’s degree in Communicative Sciences and Disorders from Nova Southeastern University. I am trained in PROMPT and certified in the LAMP methodology.
I began my journey as a speech-language pathologist when, as a classroom teacher, I realized I needed more training to better support my struggling students. I have spent most of my career in public schools, working with children diagnosed with autism, cerebral palsy, emotional disturbance, intellectual difference, and more. I am passionate about ensuring that all my students have a voice, no matter their limitations, because we all have something to contribute.
Over time, I recognized that my training and experience uniquely qualified me to assess and treat children—and adults born with their special abilities—in the area of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Together with my colleagues and friends, Inna Itskovich and Megan Meyer, I co-authored *Treatment Companion: A Speech-Language Pathologist's Intervention Guide for Students With Developmental Delays and Disorders*, where we explore evidence-based strategies drawn from our own experience.
Finally, I founded Let’s Talk, NY, Speech and Language Services to share my expertise and passion for AAC and other areas of speech and language with clients beyond the public school system.
