Dr. Mona Merchant, a therapeutic optometrist and optometric glaucoma specialist, grew up in Houston, Texas and relocated to the Dallas soon after marriage. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from University of Texas at Austin. She continued her education at the University of Houston College of Optometry, where she graduated summa cum laude, to obtain her Doctorate of Optometry.
Dr. Merchant received extensive training during her externships in various aspects of optometry. Her time at Northeastern State University College of Optometry further enhanced her knowledge of hospital based optometry as well as diagnosis, treatment, and management of ocular diseases like diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. Infinity Laser Vision gave her knowledge and experience in pre - and post – operative LASIK and cataract surgery. Before establishing Merchant Eyecare, Dr. Merchant provided optometric services at long term facilities throughout the DFW and Fort Worth area to the geriatric population, which is very prominent in age-related macular degeneration.
At Merchant Eyecare, besides performing comprehensive eye exams, Dr. Merchant fits the latest contact lens designs including astigmatism, bifocal, high oxygen, and color contact lenses. She specializes in management of urgent care optometry like foreign body removal, acute infections, and trauma. Dr. Merchant also provides free consultations, pre-testing, and post-operative care for those interested in LASIK.
