Dr. Appel specializes in treating individuals suffering from the broad spectrum of anxiety disorders, depression, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, as well as college students struggling with school-related challenges.
Dr. Appel has received specialized training in treating anxiety and depression at Hofstra University where he received his PhD, as well as training in treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder at Columbia University and My OCD Care. Dr. Appel also has extensive experience in treating college students through his previous positions at Hofstra University's College Counseling Center, and Zucker Hillside Hospital's College Program.
Dr. Appel’s treatment philosophy incorporates evidence-based techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (including Exposure & Response Prevention for OCD), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). He utilizes a relaxed and flexible approach to therapy which is warm, caring, and collaborative, yet targeted and goal oriented to meet each patient’s unique needs.
