Dr. Nancy Chen is a clinical neuropsychologist who has worked with individuals across the lifespan. She has worked in outpatient clinics, inpatient hospitals, trauma hospitals, and served as a staff neuropsychologist for Fort Liberty Intrepid Spirit Center serving our active duty service men and women.
Neuropsychologists are trained to evaluate illnesses, injuries, and Neurodevelopmental conditions affecting an individual's thinking processes including attention, memory, verbal skills, executive function, and emotional functioning. A neuropsychological evaluation is different from neuroimaging such as CT or MRI scans, which show the structure of the brain, but now how the brain performs on certain functions (i.e., memory). The goal of Cadence Neuropsychological Services is to understand how the patient's conditions impact their functioning, help identify the individual's cognitive strengths and weaknesses, and utilize results from the evaluation to develop treatment recommendations to optimize the quality of life, and maximize the individual's potential for recovery and adaptation. Therefore, when you schedule a neuropsychological evaluation with Dr. Nancy Chen, you can expect to be with her for approximately 3 hours. The first part of the appointment is an interview and history gathering, and the second part of the appointment is testing, which is predominantly paper-and-pencil tasks completed one-on-one with Dr. Chen. Please arrive 30 minutes early so that she can answer any questions you may have and complete all intake paperwork prior to the appointment.
