Nikhil Waingankar, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Urologic Oncology in the Department of Urology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and an Attending Physician in the Department of Urology at Mount Sinai Queens. He specializes in urologic oncology and his expertise includes open, laparoscopic, endoscopic and robotic surgical techniques. His clinical focus includes treating patients with cancers of the prostate, bladder, kidney and testis. He also cares for patients with benign urologic conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, kidney stones and urinary tract infections.
Dr. Waingankar received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. After finishing his internship in general surgery at Johns Hopkins, he completed a residency in urology at North Shore – Long Island Jewish Health System where he received academic awards and served as Chief Resident. He subsequently completed a fellowship in urologic oncology at the esteemed Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia.
Dr. Waingankar provides caring and customized treatment to patients with a range of urologic cancers. He offers patients the latest advances in surgical treatment and works closely with his colleagues in medical oncology, radiation oncology, family practice, and internal medicine to provide an integrated approach to patient care with the goal of optimizing outcomes and the patient experience. He finds the positive impact he has on his patients’ lives very rewarding.

The staff and the doctor were great! I took my dad here to get a follow-up after elevated PSA levels. The doctor was charming, sweet and tolerant with my dad despite his Alzheimer's. He explained the prognosis and options in a very warm and friendly manner.

Dr. Wainganker has an excellent bedside manner. He looks directly at you when speaking to you, he explains everything in easy-to-understand language, and I found him very reassuring. I was referred to this doctor by my PCP (in the same office) for a chronic issue. He did not perform any of the diagnostic tests that my PCP told me to expect, and basically told me that there was nothing to be done but take medication indefinitely. He prescribed a medication that has serious side effects without discussing the side effects or the other options with me first.
