Before coming to New Jersey, Dr Schachter practiced in New York, where he trained residents in the eye department at St Vincent's Hospital. He then moved to Montclair where he introduced ophthalmic laser surgery to the region. He has served three terms as Director of Ophthalmology at Mountainside Hospital.

Dr. Schachter always explains (with models) exactly what is going on with my eyes. He has some great gadgets that show the inside of the eye and he explains what all the thingies in the eye are. Dr. Schachter is the only doctor I ever had who I look forward to seeing.

The doctor was great. The office is on a main road and does not have any dedicated parking (which I wish I had known before going). You have to park in the CVS lot a few doors down, I suppose? I wasn’t ever given a clear solution on where to park if the 3 or 4 metered spaces on the street in front of the office were already occupied. (Parking at CVS, I was told by the office staff, “should be fine.”) Once I got into the office, I was seen by the doctor within 5 or 10 minutes. Dr. Schachter was very pleasant, efficient, and knowledgeable. I liked him and I would go back to him again.

Some years ago my young son was poked in the eye bad enough for the school to contact me. I immediately call Dr. Schacter but he was in surgery. About an hour later he called me back to bring my son in immediately. I never had a doctor do that. He examined my son, put a patch over his eye, and fortunately there was no lasting damage.
Dr. Schacter always takes the time to answer any questions I have and show me some of his cool eye-exam hardware. He also has a lot of good anecdotes and jokes.
One point though: Offer a pair of throw-away sunglasses when we leave. The dilating drops make the sun blinding and I couldn't drive until my eyes adjusted.

Dr. Shachter was the best I've seen. I had been struggling with an eye issue for over 15 years, and in a video appointment, he was finally able to tell me exactly what was wrong with and what I could do to change my daily habits to fix my issue and let me wear makeup again. Not to mention he is also very empathetic as well as hilarious! I would highly recommend him to my family/friends.

Absolutely incredible! I cannot recommend this doctor enough. Not only was he incredibly patient with taking the time to truly understand my concerns, but he also was incredibly informative. He educated me while providing me with the necessary next steps to address my concerns.
This has been a tough journey for me as I visited many doctors to figure out the right plan. That being said, Dr. Schachter was easily the best doctor I had the pleasure of seeing regarding this health issue. Highly recommend.
