Dr. Rao has more than 30 years of clinical experience in the psychiatric treatment of adolescents, adults, and the geriatric population. He earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from Kurnool Medical College and completed his residency in psychiatry at Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Rao has served as the Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at Nassau University Medical Center for over 12 years.
He has been honored as the Educator of the Year by the Association of Academic Psychiatry and received the George Tarjan Award as well as the Vestermark Award for excellence as a psychiatric educator from the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Rao is also a Fellow of the American College of Psychiatry and has chaired the IMG Governing Council of the American Medical Association.
Dr. Rao has published over 100 scientific papers and book chapters and has presented at numerous national scientific meetings. His clinical interests include anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorders, and a subspecialty in geriatric psychiatry.
