Ketamine has recently been described as the most important breakthrough in the last fifty years for the treatment of depression, anxiety, PTSD and chronic pain. When administered intravenously in sub-anesthetic doses, ketamine has astounding efficacy treating mood disorders and some chronic pain syndromes.
The 'standard protocol' is six (6) IV ketamine treatments given as close together over a 3-4 week period as possible. Please keep this in mind when scheduling. Each treatment lasts from 40-60 minutes.
Dr Paul Foster is a board certified Emergency Medicine Physician who has worked in Emergency Departments throughout Texas. He was born and raised in Montana, and after a stint in the U.S. Air Force received his undergraduate degree at Harvard University. Interested in a holistic, or integrated approach to medicine he went on to receive his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from TUCOM-California. From there he completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York City. He has called Austin home since 2011.
Witnessing many close friends and family members struggle with debilitating depression and anxiety, and knowing the potentially devastating outcome if inadequately treated, he felt compelled to start AKS to make this effective treatment more accessible to those who are suffering. Dr Foster brings a culture of empathy and compassion to Austin Ketamine Specialists, and is passionate about the positive and substantive changes AKS is making in our patients’ lives.

I have a very bad attitude about doctors. I have basically no trust in any but a rare few. However, Dr. Foster breaks the mold for me. He is a very gentle soul and really cares about you as a person, not just a number. Ketamine is answered prayer for me and would trust Dr. Foster with any further treatment I may need in the future. If you are interested in Ketamine I wholeheartedly recommend him

Dr. Foster is one of the best I’ve ever encountered. He cares about his patients and knows exactly how to help make the process relaxing and comfortable. Truly, I can’t express how caring and, quite frankly, amazing he has been time and again through my treatments. The treatments are great, and Dr. Foster is the only Dr. I have been comfortable with and TRUST in my life... and I’ve had the same PCP since I was a kid.
If any Dr. deserves a medal for being patient oriented, treatment minded, and extremely knowledgeable of medical practices, Dr. Foster would be the one.
There’s much more I could rave on about, but there’s not a single negative when it comes to Dr. Foster, the facilities, the staff, and the treatment itself.

The experience I had at AKS was amazing! Dr. Foster is both very compassionate and understanding as well as being extremely knowledgeable and reassuring in regards to the treatment and what I was going through. I completed the round of the initial 6 treatment sessions and noticed a dramatic change in my symptoms afterwards and continue to notice positive changes as the days go by. Due to Dr. Foster's experience in Emergency Medicine, knowledge and experience with Ketamine treatments, and his great ability to make patients feel at easy, I can't imagine having these treatments anywhere else. I highly recommend AKS to anyone looking into having Ketamine Infusion therapy.

I had a great experience at AKS. Dr. Foster has a positive and calming demeanor. Laying out a treatment plan and scheduling appointments in advance was easy. The entire 6- session series was much easier than anticipated. All I was required to do as the patient was get myself to and from clinic safely. Since completing the series of six infusions my referring physician and I have recommended Dr. Foster (AKS) on a few separate occasions.
