Verified Patient Reviews
I was very impressed with both Dr. Kang and the staff. All were very professional, pleasant and seemed very knowledgeable.
Very good and professional. Feel that all my questions were answered.
First visit with Dr Kang after a recommendation from another ophthalmologist in NYC. Excellent experience with Dr Kang and the entire staff of EDOW.
Dr. Kang was very professionally and knowledgeable and is supported by a wonderful group of professionals. Eye Doctors of Washington is a very good place for anyone interested in the best in care for their eyes.
I really appreciate Dr. Kang's suggestions for controlling both my dry eye problem and glaucoma, while concurrently trying to reduce the number of medications I presently need. Fewer medications will make daily life easier and my eyes more comfortable.
Educational and enlightened discussion.
Professional and courteous staff, excellent and focused doctor. all responded well to patient concerns and were thorough and competent.
My husband and I got LASIK surgery at Eye Doctors of Washington (EDOW) three weeks ago – and every day for the past three weeks I have asked myself – why did I not get it sooner?! It has been the most amazing feeling to get ready for bed without having to wonder where I put my glasses, and then to wake up and see better than I’ve ever seen before without having to put contacts in! So this is going to be a long post, but I wanted to share a little bit about the process leading up to LASIK at EDOW, as well as our day-of experience. I’ve had to wear glasses/contacts since middle school, and for my husband it’s been even longer. He had many issues with his contacts – they’d often irritate his eyes and sometimes even fall out. So we had talked a lot about LASIK, especially about how convenient it’d be with how much we love to travel and do adventurous things. It especially hit me on our recent Florida trip – I was riding a jet ski and thinking more about my contacts falling out than how much fun I was having! Our friend had just gotten LASIK and told us all about how amazing, quick, pain-free, and cost-effective the whole experience was, so my hubby and I started talking more seriously about it. I was a little worried at first because I knew someone who had a painful experience (this was 10 years ago and the technology has gotten much better since then), but even that person said they were still so happy they had it done, so I figured it had to be worth it! And it sure has been!! We went to Eye Doctors of Washington, whose ophthalmologists are among the most experienced in the country and use the very best technology available. I feel like often you hear of one of those – very experienced but outdated, or very high-tech but new to the game – but they have both. They’re even the eye doctors for the Washington Wizards and Capitals, so we knew they’d take great care of us! EDOW has multiple locations in the DC area, and for our LASIK consultation we went to their Tysons office. We felt so welcomed from the moment we walked in – everyone was so friendly, from the front desk staff to the doctors. And we were amazed at how little wait time there was! They saw us almost right away. Dr. Kang, the eye doctor who performed our LASIK, was also who we did our initial consultation with, which was really neat and made us feel super comfortable about surgery day. Dr. Kang was incredibly patient with all the questions I had, and took the time to get to know us on a personal level too. That meant a lot! And after the EDOW team checked our eyes he pre-approved us for LASIK, so we were excited! The next week, we had our pre-op visit at their Chevy Chase location. They did a number of other tests and even dilated our eyes, which tests how your eyes perform in darker conditions. It was comforting to know that everything was triple-checked and that if for some reason something showed that LASIK was not a good fit for us, they would let us know upfront. I appreciate knowing that they truly care about their patients, not just about making money! Their price even includes one year of post-op care plus a lifetime warranty!! Before we knew it, the day of our LASIK surgery had arrived. On the drive there, we were joking that maybe we were crazy for both getting LASIK on the same day (we stayed at a hotel down the road and took an Uber to/from EDOW), but we had such a positive experience that it was not a problem at all! When we arrived, the EDOW team was so excited for us – it literally felt like family! They had made us cookies and set out all kinds of other goodies to make the experience wonderful. Dr. Kang told us the procedure would be quick, but I had no idea that it’d only take like six minutes! My husband went first and came out smiling, and I stuffed another cookie in my mouth before picking out a stuffed animal to hold from their various options, then laying on the surgery table. I did not feel any pain during the surgery even though I was wide awake, it was amazing. The most common question I get asked is if I was scared. Not at all! Dr. Kang did such a good job of walking us through the whole procedure. Whenever there was a moment that could have been scary, he would say “You’re doing great, this is exactly what I want” which really helped calm any nerves. Directly afterwards my vision was a little blurry and it felt like there was a piece of sand in my eyes, but that is completely to be expected and I was mostly just amazed at how well I could see! We took a nap when we got home, then ordered in pizza and spent the night relaxing, and when we woke up the next morning could see so well without any pain! We drove in (yes, you can drive the next morning) for our post-op appointment and they told us both of our vision is now 20/15, which is even more amazing than we anticipated. Thank you so much to Eye Doctors of Washington for making our LASIK experience so incredible! We are so thankful for you!!!
Very fine eye doctor and I agreed to undergo surgery. However, the surgery clinic is in Bethesda MD and I reside in Falls Church VA which is too far for me (am 80yrs old) to drive. Thank you doctor for seeing me. I hope to find an eye doctor with a surgery clinic nearby. Gratefully
Dr, Kang explains what he will do and does it. He is very clear and is willing to answer any questions I have. My experience under his care has been wonderful.
All of the staff are very efficient and friendly, I began my visits with them not knowing much about the surgery I wanted to get and they were incredibly helpful in explaining everything in laymans terms.
Dr. Kang is a fabulous Doctor. He is so kind and caring and his credentials are amazing. The office staff is wonderful and extremely organized, efficient, and kind. My eye surgery was a success and I would recommend Dr. Kang to everyone. Linda M.
i have always satisfied!
He was extremely informative, answered all my questions and did not make me feel rushed in any way. I would also like to comment that from the front desk personnel to the staff who performed my various tests I was extremely pleased. They are helpful, know their jobs well and were extremely nice. I would highly recommend this office.
The staff was polite, helpful and efficient. My appointment went very smoothly and Dr. Kang was outstanding!
I have been very happy with Dr Kang. His medical expertise is amazing and he was able to cure what I had. I find him to be very pleasant and he answers all my questions.
Professional, easy to talk to, and truly cares for his patients
I have had multiple appointments with Dr. Kang and he was professional and kind at each one. At times I felt I might annoying because I had a lot of questions but he happily answered each one and made me feel very comfortable. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
Great system of employees getting you in and out while giving you good attention.
Dr. Kang had some bad news to deliver to me today about my eyes' future prognosis. He pulled no punches for which I was grateful. Many punches had been pulled by other doctors in other opthalmology practices over the preceding five years. I felt educated about my rejecting corneal transplant which was performed by another physician. Dr. Kang was neither overly positive nor was he dour and negative. Instead he just stated the facts which happened not to be very good in my case. However the reflection on him is that he is a doctor who does care about the patience he sees.5
Everyone at the office was very professional and knowledgeable. Dr. Kang was pleasant and able to make me feel comfortable with all of the information he provided. It was a great visit.
He answered all my questions/concerns, I didn't feel rushed at all. I am confident in him as my surgeon.
Infuriating wait even tho I arrived 20 minutes early so I waited a total of 50 minutes
Paul Kang is a top ophthalmologist. As a person he is a humble, amicable, and respectable Character.
Dr. Kang is a consummate professional. He listens intently and then uses his expertise to diagnose a course of action that is appropriate and reassuring to the patient. It was a great visit and I'd be willing to see him again
Excellent staff and top notch doctor. Like an American Express card, can't leave my health without them.
I enjoy it
Very professional, knowledgeable, and has my trust.
From the time I walked into the Doctor's office until I departed, everyone was exceptionally nice and professional. I was seen quickly, all the issues were addressed for my upcoming surgery and all the admin items were addressed and taken care of. A very positive experience!! I was impressed!!
I have been going to Dr Kang for more than ten years and before that Dr Clinch. It has always been a good experience and I have great respect for Dr Kang's ability and he has a great personality. I have always been treated well by the various technicians in the office. For the first time this morning I waited more than an hour. At the 45 minute mark I approached the desk and asked what the problem was because the other person I came to the office with had a later appointment than I did and was called first (Early, in fact). The people at the desk fumbled around and told me that I would be called. I still waited and at the 45 minute mark I stopped on of the techs bringing another patient in and asked when I would be having my 10AM appointment (it was 10:40). She was rather shocked and told me she would be right back and I was ushered in within a few minutes.
He presented me with my options and made suggestions as to what he'd recommend.
1St Class. Always very professional, with a person touch.
I was taken back right at my app't time; A number of tests were done - the equipment is very high tech and they test for a variety of eye conditions (which I appreciate since I have a chronic eye issue); After this was all done - I was seen by Dr. Kang within a few minutes. He and the entire staff are excellent and very thorough.
Good, very professional.
Dr. Kang is extremely pleasant and seems to be well trained in his specialty. What more can you ask for than a well-trained and personable doctor?
Being a physician I know what basic bedside manner is and didn't receive it. He seemed bothered that I asked a few questions regarding a long-standing issue that I wanted some answers about. He prescribed a different medication that what was discussed in the room. At that point I didn't bother and went to another physician for a second opinion.
I have been seeing Dr. Kang for several years and he, his associates and the Eye Doctors of Washington facilities are fantastic.
Professional, complete, very pleased
Well. I love coming to visit with Paul Kang. He is awesome and the rest of the staff as well. The reason I showed up today was because I received an email stating that I was due for an appointment. So I booked the appointment, feeling that it was time that I get my eyes exam again and the office knows when I am do for an examination. I arrived to the appointment and I was kindly told that I did not need this appointment and the appointment conflicted with my work schedule. I believe this could have been avoided. I might be the one at fault but when I receive an email stating that your due for an appointment, I respond believing it's time. Please advise me what to do next time I receive an email stating I am due for an appointment. Thank you for listening.
Good visit, consistent quality time with Dr. Kang. Only problem was wait time; they seemed to have overbooked. Also, the assistant kept calling me "buddy" which is fine for a dog not a senior citizen.
Professional, thoughtful and friendly.
Dr. Kang is a medical doctor, so health insurance may cover your visit.
Perfect. The nurse was great and so was Dr. Kang. Quick, efficient. Perfect.
This was my first visit to Dr.Kang's office. His staff are excellent, well-trained professionals. I would recommend this office.
Great professionals with a welcoming and caring spirit.
it was my first visit to Chevy Chase office and I felt very welcomed the minute I entered the office. The whole stuff and Dr. Kang are fantastic, all my questions were answered without ever feeling rushed and now I am very confident about my decision to go ahead with eye procedure.
Dr Kang is thoroughly professional in every respect. His cateract surgery has made a huge difference in my life now that I dont have to fiddle with glasses every minute of the day. My husband researched his credentials which are excellent and I have always instinctively trusted his judgment. I saw two other surgeons before him but chose Dr Kang for which I will be eternally grateful.
RE electronic sign-in. It's a bit frustrating to provide the same information for each visit. Is there no way to just verify previous information? ZocDoc was really good for setting up the appointment and getting reminders. I was very appreciative of the convenience.
Dr Kang is very thorough and kind. I never feel rushed
He knows what he does.
Terrific and thorough
Dr. Kang was excellent.
Before seeing me, Dr. Kang obviously had reviewed my file and was up-to-date. He fully answered my questions.
Excellent physician and office visit experience. Physician is thorough, ordered appropriate tests, explained results and made recommendations. Dr. Kang is very pleasant as is his staff. I recommend highly.
Dr. Kang is a great Doctor. You know that he has full knowledge about your health history and so feel confident and trust his opinion. He has a calm and pleasant personality. My family thinks highly of him and have been going to him for more than 8 years. His technician was also very professional and knowledgable and answered all my questions and she was never impatient with me. ----S.D.
Efficient, professional and friendly.
He's great and very knowledgeable. Found a great solution to a difficult problem.
First-time visit. Office: very clean, large, modern, in an easy-accessible building in Vienna/Tysons with ample parking, all up-to-date modern tech check-in process, making an appointment was exceptionally easy on ZocDoc (made appointment Saturday on ZocDoc and was confirmed Monday morning), office staff at the Vienna location was awesome! I waited 30 minutes to be seen, as it was a busy Monday morning. I didn't mind, as it's a nice environment, plenty of magazines, and nice people. Doc's assistant did a quick intake, was kind and accommodating with the dilation drops, extremely thorough, and super nice. Dr. Kang is an extremely competent doctor. He diagnosed my issue immediately, answered my questions without having one foot out of the door, despite how busy he was Monday morning, and I left feeling confident about my care. What more can you ask for?
I was very unimpressed by Dr. Kang. I don't have any major eye problems but had not had an eye exam in 10 years. He spent MAYBE 30 seconds with me and when I asked him a question as he was trying to scramble quickly out the door he seemed irritated. It made me feel like I needed to apologize for taking up his precious time. Very unsatisfactory experience with him and will not return.
Dr. Kang and his staff were caring and professional. They made feel very comfortable and they walked me through the whole process of examining my eyes and explained the reasons. I happy thankful for their service and I highly recommend Dr. Kang and his staff.
I am very pleased with Dr. Kang. He performed my cataracts surgery in 2010, and I am so grateful to him for restoring my eyesight. I have no complaints and would highly recommend him to my friends.
Excellent visit. Young woman assistant was courteous, pleasant, and responsive. Dr. Kang took time to answer my questions, gave me good information.
Dr. Kang and his assistants (who did most of the preliminary work before he came in to check me) were all great. He's especially congenial and easy to talk to. I appreciate the very short wait time (maybe 5 minutes?) and pleasant experience overall.
The team took good care of me during the majority of visit. Face time with Dr. Kang lasted about 5 minutes. I am satisfied with consultation.
Dr Paul Kang is expertise eye doctor
Great bedside manner, explained everything very clearly and concisely (without medical jargon)
I really liked Dr. Kang and the entire staff they are very professional.
Dr. Kang provides a very thorough and comprehensive examination and his bedside manner dispels any "white-coat syndrome"
He's the best eye doctor I have seen. He explains everything to you, and makes sure you understand.
He was pleasant and very professional .
They are really efficient and their electronic records put so much information at their fingertips: especially when you have a long complicated history. Good service from check in to co-pay time.
I liked the visit. However, I would encourage the office to consider giving each patient a sheet with what tests were done (if it was routine, then, this would be short a list), what pictures were taken and why and what we need to do in the meanwhile. I'm 47 and on a bad day, I'm not sure if I got all the points. I know the office performs cataracts surgery on many patients who are over 70 (my parents are both over 80 and patients of Dr Kang) and since most people (regardless of age) can only remember a maximum of 5 things - it's possible that they may not remember most of their visit. I think if Dr Kang and the office want to have their patients involved in their own care and follow any instructions and be proactive, it would help everyone to send patients home with a written summary of each visit. This may not be a difficult thing since it appears most of the record keeping is now done electronically.
This practice has the best medical care I have ever experienced. Every aspect exceeded my expectations.
Professional and comprehensive
it was 20 minutes for the start of tests - it was an hour before I saw Dr. Kang.
Excellent competent service, but the wait could be reduced by not scheduling so many patients....
I could tell this doctor was not for me when he told me I absolutely without a doubt would need eye surgery. I then told him I don't have the money for that and that it may be years before I can do anything like that. Plus i have 20/20 vision. Once I told him I did not have the money, his demeanor changed and told me to come back in a year and he would check to see if I needed it. Doctors have bad reps because of people that do this.
Appreciated the friendly staff- appreciated the techs appreciated the quick call back on making the secondary appointment
Very professional, got to the point, made recommendations, offered options.
Excellent and very dedicated to the patient's well being
It was great ( maybe the fact that I have good eyes and was told I have healthy eyes helped! Staff is very professional, with appointment all went very fast
I had my Lasik procedure done in Sept of '13 and everything went perfect...results are fantastic.
They called to change my apt time because they were over poked. This was fine since they also edited the time and date with zoc doc. On the day of my apt I was running late so I called to inform them. Turns out I was not on the schedule at all! I insisted I was a zoc doc customer and after a 10 min hold I was placed on the schedule for my desired time. Beyon this, service was great and it was a great atmosphere for an Opthalmology clinic.
I really don't like going to Chevy Chase, but I will because I like Dr. Kang.
Good appointment, although very quick once I saw the doctor
Very bright, personable & helpful!
This practice always provides top notch service. All staff are exceptionally professional, well versed in their skill areas. The Dr, himself, is worth traveling to northern Virginia for the visit: he is knowledgeable, upbeat, articulate well appointed, and pleasant. One of the best.
I found him to be incredibly full of himself. I would not go back.
My visit was very quick as I didn't have any complaints (it was a regular check-up). Dr. Kang probably could have spent a little more time with me, but really can't blame him for a quick check-in/check-out. I was billed for the visit, which was supposed to have been included in my Lasik package.
i am impressed
I feel that he always pays attention. I would definitely recommend him.
My appointment was at 8:30 but I didn't actually see Dr. Kang till 9:45! I wasn't taken back until 9 and then I had to wait for my eyes to dilate before I saw him. I liked Dr. Kang once I finally got to him, but I'll be better prepared for my appt. to take long in the future. Based on the waiting area, it seemed like the whole office was behind. I don't know how that happens so early in the morning, but oh well...
He is great doctor and I have having issues with my eye from quite sometime and even though things are looking normal when he did the test but since he paid full attention to the issues which I have told him and did a further test to eliminate any possibility which other would ignore. He is still working on my case but I am sure I am in good hands. Thank you Dr.Kang
Great. Would recommend him
Dr Kang was very professional and personable. His assistant was wonderful as well. Sorry, I can't remember his name, Randall?
I gladly drive an hour to see him rather than going to a doctor closer to home. He is by far the very best eye doctor I have ever dealt with and I trust him completely. He knows me and always remembers everything we have done in the past no matter how long ago it was.
He was great - friendly and to the point.
Dr. Kang was very knowledgable. He listened to my complaints and offered advice. He was funny and easy on the eyes as well. The tech was good. She wasn't too personable but she did seem to know her job. She did smile though. The receptionist was okay. She did not smile nor was she personable. All business. I think she could have done a better job of welcoming me to the practice - it was my first time there. The after hours phone service was not too helpful. I was standing outside of the building and called the doctor's office no one buzzed me in. I called them and got the after hours service. They said they did not have any way to get ahold of the office because it was before 8am. I told them that it was 7:30 - my appt time. Finally the tech (mentioned above) walked up so I followed her in. We rode in the elevator together silently...
Very professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. The wait time was about 15 minutes. Highly recommend!
Busy, full service practice. Dr. Kang was energetic and offer good advice about my prescription and eye health.
My initial visit with Dr. Kang and his staff. Very impressive. Answered all of my questions and provided the information I didn't know to ask about.
He always makes you feel that you are his only patient. Since he removed my cataracts he pays special attention to my eyes and addresses my issues. I already recommended him to my friend.
Dr. Kang was very nice. The visit was quick - he was very assuring. His assistant (tech?) was fantastic - she did the initial exam - 5 stars!
Dr. Kang was brief but answered all my questions. He provided samples and a follow-up plan that made me feel like he is really concerned with my well-being (always nice to feel like your doctor cares about you right?). His staff was very professional and thorough. The receptionists were welcoming and informative. Both ladies who saw me (before and after Dr. Kang saw me) were nice and explained all the tests being done on my eyes. I would definitely recommend this practice to anybody looking for an eye doctor in this area.
A bit too rushed and a sense of batch processing but I liked the set-up and efficiency and my questions got answered. Would recommend for most but if you are looking an extended consult, you better ask up front.
Dr. Kang is energetic and knowledgable. He seems more interested in doing procedures, however, than regular eye care, so know that as you decide. I ended up with a costly procedure to help with dry eye, and when I went to a regular ophthalmologist 6 months later, the device had fallen out of my eye and my problem was cured with a gel. The nursing staff in this office too was really unprofessional. As I was waiting (for almost an hour) they were speaking loudly where I could hear, complaining about the scheduling in the office and when they have to work. It's a shame, because Dr. Kang seems to love what he does.
I found Dr. Kang to be genuine, friendly and helpful. I felt very comfortable with him and have confidence that he will help solve my problem.
Well coordinated staff, clear communications and helpfull follow through; overall, a good experience.
Dynamic personality.....gives patient confidence. Answered all questions with knowledge.
I was very pleased with the extremely short wait time. Almost as soon as I finished my paperwork, Dr. Kang met with me. He had excellent bedside manner and was professional. I was very pleased with my visit and will defintely recommend Dr. Kang to others.
The entire practice is extremely professional and kind -- from the receptionist, to the technician, to the doctor. Highly recommended.
Very professional and likeable
Dr. Kang was really knowledgeable, really personable and highly professional. He took time to answer all my questions and explain things. He clearly knows what he's doing.
Very impressed with this whole group. Dr. Kang spent a lot of time with me and addressed all of my concerns. I had a follow up a few months later and screwed up the appt. date. I arrived a day early. Dr. Kang was not there and I saw another doctor who was equally good. They squeezed me in so I would not have to come back the following day. I really love this whole practice...have been to the Maryland and DC locations and there is a consistent professionalism in both offices.
Dr. Kang is a wonderful doctor and I would highly recommend him to anyone. His office staff is great and everyone is so friendly.
I waited almost 45 min. Dr. Kang just spent 2 min. with me, and 1 min. of that was his writing and signing the papers. I do not recommend him to anyone.
Excellent doctor - efficient, kind and reassuring.
Although I will probably see Dr. Kang again because of his extensive experience, (and perhaps he was not as warm with me because my vision is more medically standard or 'boring'), I was a bit disappointed with the length of time he spent with me. As a new patient I was hoping he would introduce himself a bit, or spend a little more time speaking with me (I saw him for 10 minutes, tops). I asked him several questions just to get more of a feel for him, which was helpful, but others might not be so inclined to do so. The office however was very organized, the technician was wonderful, and the doctors are the best and brightest in the area. The technician even took the time to go back to the front desk to be sure that my insurance would cover seeing an opthamologist (vs an optometrist).
good, straightforward doc. I like the practice & the physician
Dr. Kang is very knowledgeable, straightforward and nice. The appt was very thorough, with an assistant working with the patience in advance of the doctor's visit.
Very impressed with Dr. Kang, he shows a genuine concern for his patients. I highly recommend this doctor.
There was a bit of a wait but it was definitely worth it, Dr. Kang was very knowledgeable and went out of his way to make sure I understood everything.
Great doctor. Personable and thorough in his exam.
Dr. Kang was very friendly and put me at ease during my initial consultation for LASIK. I am much more likely to get the procedure now.
Everyone was nice and professional. Dr. Kang is very nice and knowledgable. He answered all my questions but I felt a little rushed.
The doctor was nice but spent very little time with me. The technician and his assistants did all the work. They had to fill out a form for me and did not fill it out completely. My eyes had been dialated, so I could not see that they had not entirely filled it out until I got home.
I don't mind waiting for an excellent doctor.
Very pleasant and clearly knowledgeable. I liked him a lot and plan on going back.
Very professional and clear in describing treatment options.
He was attentive and very informative.
I had an emergency and was able to get an appointment by the end of the week. I arrived early to fill out paperwork and they ended up beginning my appointment before my scheduled time. The staff was very friendly and helpful and Dr. Kang and his assistant were efficient but thorough.
