Dr. Mefferd received his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of South Carolina and his medical degree from the University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Missouri.
Dr. Mefferd completed his internship at Florida Hospital East in Orlando and went on to complete his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Emory University Hospital. He then completed fellowship training at Emory in the Anesthesiology Pain Medicine Fellowship program.
Dr. Mefferd received board certification in both Pain Medicine and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation from the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
He is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, International Spine Injection Society, North American Spine Society, American Osteopathic Association and numerous other national and regional associations.
He served as contributing editor to "Rehab in Review" for Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He also served as the tournament physician for the George Rogers Heismen Trophy Golf Tournament, and currently is the team physician for a local high school football team.

Dr. Mefferd listened while he was typing in my info but Dr. Cantwell and other societies have done the same. No eye contact. So I’m guessing that’s the norm nowadays. Too busy to look you in the eye and make you feel like they care. Very few doctors do care. Even the ones who make you feel like they do are trying to avoid bad reviews like this one. But they don’t really really care about anything but their paycheck. Show me one that does and I’ll give them the greatest review ever.

Dr. Mefferd is incredible! He is kind and compassionate and totally invested in deciding what type or combination of treatments are going to yield the best results for you. He offers realistic expectations that are based in tremendous experience and clinical observation. NP Amy Hartline is beyond exceptional as well and is an indispensable compliment to this already top tier practice. She too is compassionate and knowledgeable with a delightful and comforting attitude. It would be hard to find better treatment anywhere for your spinal related issues. They are not only prepared to helped but well equipped to do so, especially being attached to the Atlanta Surgical Center where I have received life changing treatments by Dr. Mefferd and staff. These folks are pros and at the top of their game in the industry. From the cheerful and knowledgeable front end staff to the intake and nursing personnel this place is a finely tuned, consistent and well oiled machine. We have made enormous progress in regards to my spinal issues and I am now able to enjoy things I thought never again possible. With the 5-Star treatment that I receive here I would be reticent to go elsewhere. Thanks Dr. Mefferd, NP Amy Hartline and staff! Y'all are truly the best! Phil A.

He's a really amazing doctor. Had my first visit transferring from a pain clinic in Forsyth, he was able to go over all of my previous treatment and prescribed all of my previous medication. He was also to set a plan of treatment right away. Everyone in the office was really nice and helpful too. Overall one of the best visits I've had.

Made me feel like I was only after meds. Also went down on 2 meds that wasn't helping even before changed them lower dose. Completely cut out one medication without even telling me or discussing it.

I have never had to wait more than about 5 minutes in the waiting from, the office staff is always professional, and the nurse Sherry is always a sweetheart. Dr Mefferd never makes me feel rushed and takes time to answer all my questions in a way that is easy to process. If you are looking for a compassionate doctor to assist you with becoming a more active participant in your life, I would highly recommend Dr. Mefferd and his caring staff.

Dr. Mefferd is one of my favorite physicians...and I've seen MORE than my fair share during the last 15 years! It amazes me that he always remembers small details about my health that even my PCP seems to forget. It's such a breath of fresh air to be seen by a physician who is actually warm, smiles frequently, and takes a genuine interest in both my well-being and life in general. In addition, I cannot say enough good things about the practice in general! Dr. Mefferd's nurse is consistently both friendly and helpful and the wait time is incredibly short each and every time. It's obvious that the physicians at this practice refuse to fall into the obnoxious trend of over scheduling like the vast majority has.

The staff was not very inviting. Upon arrival, I was asked for my insurance card and ID. I was not greeted. Dr. Mefferd was pleasant and was quick to suggest treatment to get me out of pain. He definitely turned the visit around for me.
