Peter A. Lio, MD is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology & Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology (board-certified in Dermatology). Dr. Lio received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, completed his internship in Pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital, and his Dermatology training at Harvard where he served as Chief Resident in Dermatology. While at Harvard, he received formal training in acupuncture.
Dr. Lio served as a full-time faculty at Harvard (Beth Israel & Children’s Hospital Boston) from 2005-2008 before returning to his native Chicago to join Northwestern and Lurie Children's Hospital. Dr. Lio is the founding director of the Chicago Integrative Eczema Center, and has spoken nationally and internationally about eczema and atopic dermatitis, as well as alternative medicine. He remains active in clinical research, serves as a section editor for the Archives of Diseases in Childhood, and has published two textbooks and over 75 papers in the peer-reviewed literature. He has received a Leader of Distinction Award, a Presidential Citation from the American Academy of Dermatology, and numerous teaching awards.
Dr. Lio is committed to providing the highest level of care to patients of all ages. His special interests include pediatric dermatology, eczema, acne, dermatomyositis, and other inflammatory diseases of the skin, and he works to integrate alternative and complementary medicines in dermatology.

Prescribed me a medication without telling me that I shouldn't use it for longer than 8 weeks. I found this out through another source later. I wish I would have been advised of that since it's a bleaching cream.

Dr. Lio is an awesome dermatologist. He is very caring and truly care about the state of your health. You are not just another patient. He really spends time answering your questions and concerns. All the dermatologists I have seen in the past usually zoomed in and out of the room as fast as they could. His staff and nurse are very awesome to work with as well. I traveled 6 hours just to see him and it is worth it everytime.

Dr. Lio is above and beyond the best dermatologist that I've had the experience of working with. I have extremely sensitive Irish skin, eczema coupled with a history of skin cancer in the family.
He's as professional as they come and has legitimate concern and care in his voice while examining and has cured/curbed several ailments that other Doctors in the past weren't able to.
He puts his patients on firm plans to follow that include maintenance care if need be beyond the initial treatments.
The new office space is gorgeous and the staff is friendly, accommodating, and make the patient experience as seamless as possible. Much less chaotic than Dr. Lio's old office space.

After much research, I landed on Dr. Lio as my new dermatologist in Chicago, having moved here from out of state. Dr. Lio immediately diagnosed a skin rash that is fairly rare (though thankfully not serious). He prescribed a treatment that included a prescription steroid as well as over the counter vitamins. The fact that Dr. Lio could recall, from memory, a study that showed certain vitamins benefitting this rare skin condition and used that to supplement my care was remarkable. He also helped treat my acne and recommended additional night time treatments in concert with what my previous dermatologist had me on, which I look forward to using as part of the well detailed regiment he prescribed. Not only was Dr. Lio very personable, but he also sent me off with print-outs of detailed information, both about my treatment regimen and the rare skin rash for which I sought treatment, as well as the abstract of the study that showed how vitamin supplementation could help with the rash. Being a technically minded person, I really appreciated the time Dr. Lio took to explain what exactly was going on as well as the reference information he provided, which made me even more confident in his treatment plan. I wish every doctor's visit was more like this one!

Dr. Lio is very thorough and courteous. He has such a great, calming manner. He always informs and educates us on the medications/creams that he prescribes. I really like that he sets up a daily action plan so it becomes habit for my teenager to follow.

It was a relief. Dr. Lio provided both hope and solutions during the visit. Having a professionals insight when dealing with the struggles of health and life balance is key.
