We were familiar with Dr. M as he treated my wife's father about 10 years ago in NJ. I consulted him for a 2nd opinion for a peripheral neuropathy. He came out to the waiting room to get us. Dr. M was very pleasent and patient and answered all my questions. The only negative for us is that we live western NJ and it took about 21/2 hrs to get there.Overall I was very pleased with Dr. M and will probably continue to see him on an annual basis.

More about Dr. Rajeev S. Motiwala, MD
Dr. Rajeev Motiwala completed his medical education and residency in Internal Medicine at B. J. Medical College, Pune, India. He was a resident in Neurology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (Newark) from 1985 to 1988 and served as Chief Resident during his last year. After his residency, Dr. Motiwala worked as a general neurologist in private practice in Hackensack, NJ and was affiliated with Hackensack University Medical Center from 1989 to 2008. Dr. Motiwala was also Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology at NYU School of Medicine from 2004 to 2008, where he was a preceptor for medical students during their Neurology clerkships. He joined the General Neurology Division at Columbia University Medical Center in May 2008 as Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurology, and continued to focus on teaching students and residents. Dr. Motiwala’s keen interest in clinical practice and medical education earned him the prestigious Lewis P. Rowland teaching award in 2009, while at Columbia. He is board-certified in Neurology and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (EMG).

Dr Motiwala is an amazingly kind and compassionate individual. He explained things at my level and also acknowledged when he might need future resources. He was responsive to all questions, made his own connections and seemed quite intelligent. My only hesitation is that his scheduling staff literally called me 4 times to make sure he was the right doc for me to see. None of them knew anyone else had called. Similarly his secretary called me twice because I had recently seen another neurologist (who did want me to see Dr Motiwala ASAP to ensure he could assist). I wish his front office staff had documented their phone calls to patients as it became quite frustrating. Then again, establishing a rationship with a kind doc can be worth it.

Doesn't really like to treat patients. Just wants to give a diagnosis and move you along. Not terribly helpful finding a solution to the problem. Cold manner.

Dr Motiwala has always been very thorough in his discussions and exams, and I would definitely recommend him to anyone seeking a general neurologist.

He was awesome! He came to greet me quickly before I was even done with my new patient paperwork. He sat and talked to me about my issues, was very patient, understanding, and seemingly very thorough in his investigative analysis. Got great vibes from this dude and am gonna stick with him!
