Verified Patient Reviews
Dr. Prayaga was efficient and effective. I came in with a referral and diagnosis from my primary care physician and had done lots of research before getting there so I was fully prepared to answer all his questions. Given how he handles his schedule I can imagine that if you arrived with no idea about why you were there it could be problematic, but I really appreciated how he respected our limited time together and treated my questions with the utmost respect. If you're looking for a two hour appointment to talk about all your problems go somewhere else (probably your primary care physician) but if you've already been referred to a psychiatrist for medication, Dr. Prayaga is incredibly well informed and a great person to discuss your options with.
Very nice doctor and very helpful.
Very quick appointment. The waiting area and reception were unconventional. Dr.Prayaga was quick in writing a prescription for you and was probably a 5-minute interaction for a new patient.
Knowledgeable and friendly doctor . Good experience with my visit
Dr Prayaga is a seasoned professional. He educated me on my condition and was very attentive to my concerns. He is exceptionally responsive to emails / calls. I would highly recommend him. I look forward to his ongoing care.
Absolutely awful. The talk with the doctor was less than 10 minutes face to face. It was obvious his intention was to focus on issues and immediately prescribe. First item he noted was where I worked, which was not professional. He then moved me to a room and had me consult with a 'therapist' via skype. I had no idea who the other person on the line was. Dr. Rama said that this person was a therapist, but the person online legally disclosed that they were NOT a licensed therapist. I'm extremely frustrated and I wanted help with an issue I had. But instead ended up with a doctor who clearly was trying to push medication on folks as fast as possible, and upsell services. Avoid if you are serious about getting help
Short and efficient. Answered my questions fully.
He explained things in easy to understand terms and analogies as well as risks. I will be going back next month
I will definitely recommend him!!
The office is professional, efficient and totally competent (which I really value). Dr. Prayaga was no-nonsense and helped me figure out a plan after my old provider stopped taking insurance.
Very nice doctor. Social worker prior to doctor was also very nice and understanding of my issues. Doctor was open and understanding and willing to discuss options. I look forward to my next appointment.
Dr. Prayaga is great and very helpful and good bedside manner. The appointments are quick because medication management rather than "talk therapy" although he always asks about my exercise routine and how important that is for mental health.
Amazing Doctor very personable and willing to answer all questions and senerios!!
My visit was good.He is the type of doctor I want to see.
This guy is really shady. He rushes patients in and out, and appointments last literally 30 seconds. LITERALLY 3 SECONDS! CVS has started to refuse to fill prescriptions from him. He even has a sign up recommending patients not go to CVS. I'm not sure how he has a license.
Dr. Prayaga was very hospitable and helpful. He did not beat around the bush and was very to the point, which I liked, as well as very professional.
He’s an amazing doctor !
Dr. Pragaya was very nice and patient; Listened to what I had to say and didn't rush the appointment. I would recommend him.
great doctor. straight forward. doesnt waist time.
Very intelligent man, easy access to appointments, outstanding staff, greatfull to have him as my doctor!!!
Great Dr, office is very efficient with little to no wait time, highly recommend.
The desk staff was a little rough around the edges, but overall this was a very good experience.
Great experience, highly recommended. Extremely professional and really cares about his patients well being!
I felt very comfortable. I don’t relax at the doctor but Dr. Prayaga is easy to talk to.
Last two times I came in, he exchanged less than two sentences with me (once of which was by phone). If you just need a script, I guess he's fine. Can occasionally make same day appointments. I don't like changing providers, but I'm fed up with not even knowing if I'll see the doctor or just be handed a prescription refill document to sign.
Dr. Prayaga was very informative and efficient. He provided me with a lot of useful information, asked all the right questions, and lastly, his office was very efficient, which you don't always see in doctor's offices today! I highly recommend him.
Dr. Prayaga does an excellent job for medication maintenance, exactly what I need. Very convenient!!
Dr. Prayaga is excellent and very empathetic. He always asks about my exercise routine and lifestyle. The appointments are quick because medication management. I have longer appointments with my therapist.
This was my first time experience with the format and I'm looking forward to working with Dr Prayaga and his staff.
Dr. Prayaga is polite and extremely helpful. He listens and understands.
Very satisfied with the appointment.
Dr. Prayaga is nice enough, and his office keeps a tight schedule, but they are totally about charging you for unnecessary visits. Other psychiatrists will give you a prescription that lasts a few months or call in refills when you need them, but Prayaga's office insists upon office visits every two months to get a refill. It's totally a scheme just to charge your insurance company for a nonessential visit that often lasts less than 5 minutes. I got tired of it, and I'm switching to a different doctor.
After the office not beig able to find my appointment, i was then confused with another patient who seemingly had my same unusual firat and last name. Then was told i had an outrageous balance. I was then brushed off and to try again tomorrow. Once i drove 30 minutes home i get a call to come back to the office and that theymade a mistake. Lost me as a patient.
This guy is the man
Very nice and personable Dr.
The doctor was very attentive and understanding. Very nice person.
Dr. Prayaga is awesome.
Friendly, forthright, and efficient! He even offered a couple of useful tips I'd never heard before (from at least 4 prior doctors). I switched insurance & needed a new doctor, and was able to find & book with Dr. Prayaga the same day! (New patients should be mindful--allow a few hours prior to the appointment for processing paperwork).
More concerned with prescribing medication than listening to what you're going through. Illegible prescription and long delays between correspondence led to waiting over a week for my prescription.
It was a relief to find a psychiatrist and staff who treated me with respect and compassion I was thrilled to find a psychiatrist enrolled in Medicare-- and close to my home.
It was proper, succint, and to the point
He was great. Very attentive, friendly, and helpful!
Very pleasant and helpful. Good experience.
Dr. Prayaga is very polite and he is very concerned about his patients.
Good for medication management. Provides telemedicine so you can reach him when you can't come into the office.
Straight and to the point.
Like other reviews state, appointments for Dr. Prayaga are five minutes tops. I already knew what treatment plan I wanted to continue coming into the appointment. I'm not sure I could recommend him for someone who is new to psychiatry but if you are self-aware about what you need, have seen doctors in the past he's a great on-plan option.
Dr. Prayaga is excellent and very understanding. He always recommends exercise which has turned out to be very helpful. The appointments are very quick because medication management. I have longer appointments with my psychologist and "talk therapy" in these sessions.
Very helpful and supportive.
Very helpful and insightful regarding my son's needs. He came up with an action plan immediately and he and team offered support and additional information immediately.
He is really nice and is always on time, even early sometimes!
This is a no-frills doctor. I love how efficient the entire consultation was. The wait time was no more than 10 minutes and he did not rush me when I wanted to discuss my concerns. He intently listened to my concerns, was compassionate, and addressed my questions. Would recommend to others.
Administrative staff extremely rude, specifically, Angela. She hung up on me multiple times while trying to make an appt. with Dr. Prayaga. The staff sit in a call center and need to be trained that they are customer service professionals providing service to patients, and ultimately the customers pay for their services at the end of the day.
Very communicative, explanatory, intuitively insightful and helpful
Definitely in and out kind of place, but if you're the type of person who's been on mess before and kind of have an idea of what works and what doesn't already it's great.
He is sympathetic, friendly, straightforward and does not waste your time and money like other doctors which i appreciated. He is professional and treats you like an adult.
Great doctor! Very helpful. Listened to my concerns.
The other reviews ring true. Dr. Prayaga is plenty nice but you'll be in and out of your session in 5 minutes. The reason you go to this doctor is to get the medication you need, not for any in-depth talk therapy. If you already have a medication plan from a previous doctor, Dr. Prayaga is definitely willing to accommodate and write you the script you need. The office is quite disorganized but he accepts insurance so it's worth it.
The doctor was right to the point and took care of me with a great treatment plan. He didn't judge or make me jump through hoops to get my prescription. All around a great and efficient experience. The only downside was that my insurance covered nothing and only offered me a slight discount on his per visit charge.
He offered an unwelcome and irrelevant assessment of my physical appearance. As a visibly out queer woman, I am upset to know that he assessed me based on how pleasing he found my appearance.
Dr. Prayaga is very supportive and understanding.
After reading other reviews indicating that Dr. Prayaga's appointments essentially consist of his writing a prescription without spending much time discussing the patients' options, I knew what I was getting into. However, I was very upfront that medication was my last resort and that I wanted the lowest dosage as possible, and he was very understanding. Bottom line is: you need to be clear and ask for what you want. If you're there to get meds, he'll prescribe you meds. If you want to have a longer conversation and discuss several types of treatment, he'll indulge you. If not, he'll make the appointment as quick as possible. One criticism I do have, however, is that he never asked about my family history or my past experiences with medication, addition, etc., which is very important.
Dr. Prayaga rarely took the time to ask me how I was doing or how things were going with my medication -- sometimes he even had the prescriptions written out before I got into the office. On multiple occasions, he/his staff wrote out prescriptions for medications I hadn't taken in months or had never taken before. my appointments usually lasted less than 2 minutes. It seemed like I was being a hassle if I had to bring up any concerns. I'm no longer seeing Dr. Prayaga and don't recommend him. If you can find another provider in the area who takes your insurance, go to them instead.
Ive' been seeing Dr. Prayaga for almost 6 months now and he has been really great. The appointments are quick and he is really easy to talk to.
Completely uncaring. Wants patients in and out in five minutes and couldnt care less about your mental health.
Dr Prayaga listens to everything you have to say and recommends the best care for you. Highly recommend!
He's so empathetic and kind. His staff are there to do a job, and they're great at it; you may be in/out of his office with 5-10 minutes.
Very long wait time, the doctor didn't conduct a new patient interview with me (a PA did, which is fine by me). He did discuss my medication and write the Rx, which is what psychiatrists are really for, but I am not sure I felt any sort of connection with him to speak with him in an emergency. And then finally, their admin staff was a hot mess. Far too many people scheduled for 5 minute appointments, the front desk didn't charge the correct copay amount even though I asked them twice, and I didn't hear back from them when I asked for further documentation for my flexible spending account. I doubt I will be going back.
Very efficient. Which I am not, so I appreciated that.
Dr. Prayaga is excellent and very empathetic. I've been seeing him for several years and he always asks about my exercise routine, work, and family life. The appointments are quick because medication management. I have longer appointments and "talk therapy" with my therapist/psychologist.
Quick and to the point.
Seems more like a drug dealer than a doctor but the appointments are quick.
The MD was excellent as always. However the assistant on two separate occasions including the last visit forgot me in the waiting room and allowed other people came after me to the MD.I was not treated equally!!!!. I am not sure if she frequently forgets other customers like me or if she dislikes me/my name, as it is not a local name obviously.
Poor record keeping anyone had had access to another patients files as they were just laying out in he open on a desk. There is no patient privacy during the initial check in visit or while the receptionist goes over your prescriptions at the end of the visit. Then when you tell Dr. Prayaga that one of the medications he prescribed helped your symptoms, he then does not want to give it to you again. Very unsatisfied with the complete visit,
Dr. Prayaga remembered important details about my life and inquired about them. I shared with him my experience with the medications I was taking and suggested a change and he was opened towards making the necessary changes in order to meet my needs. It was a collaborative and client centered approach. I would highly recommend him!
Doctor Prayaga is likely a very good doctor, but our appointments consist of his writing a prescription and handing it to me. It take 5 minutes and from what I've observed he spends the same amount of time with all patients. I'm considering switching because now he's moving to telemedicine. I'm unsure if that means even less connection.
Insightful and helpful. I was very appreciative with his understanding of issues and his professionalism.
Spent about 10 minutes total with me before prescribing medicine without knowing more than my name, career, & the medications another doctor prescribed FIVE years ago. He cussed a lot & his office was very small and unprofessional. Very quick in & out, quantity not quality type of doctor.
If you know what prescriptions you need and what works for you, this is the place to go to get a quick prescription written out. Dr. Prayaga doesn't take the time to get to know you or what you're going through. He doesn't keep detailed patient records, so he would often ask me a generic, "how's work?" every time I saw him in an attempt to be courteous. Patients will often be in his office for less than 30 seconds, and are shuffled through as quickly as possible. The waiting area will be packed, but then emptied out in a matter of minutes. I moved to the area and needed a new psychiatrist. I tried to make this office work because it was conveniently located, took my insurance, and he had late appointments. I saw him for about 4 months through 4 appointments. But I ended up being worse off than when I first started. I was prescribed medications that made no sense and he never knew what I had been taking the next time I saw him, even though he was the one who was prescribing my meds. He only prescribes medication for one month at a time (which when you're trying new meds makes sense), so if you're expecting a longer supply to visit the doctor less often, you should try somewhere else. Also, parking is a pain if you drive. There is a garage right under the building but it's pretty pricey, even if you're only in for a few minutes. I wouldn't suggest Dr. Prayaga AT ALL to someone who is seeking help or new to psychiatric medications. Find someone that takes the time to know you and what you're going through. I've seen a couple of others (before and after Dr. Prayaga) and my initial appointments were always an hour, and subsequent appointments were decent check-ins of at least 15/30 minutes. I ended up switching to Greater Washington Psychiatry and Counseling (GWPC), and highly recommend them. They also offer counseling, if needed. I don't believe they're on Zocdoc, but it was very easy to make an appointment over the phone.
My visit with Dr. Prayaga was very professional and helpful. I appreciated that he took the time to check on me, remembered important information about my life and also recommended treatment options that would be very affordable. I am very pleased with my experience with him an would highly recommend it to others.
Dr. Prayaga was very kind and listened to the concerns I had, but still was able to keep the appointment short. He was able to provide me with proper medication and I would recommend him to anyone!
Very quick and to the point for getting proper dosage and prescription. He is polite and courteous, but his appointments are known to be quite short -- 15 minutes or less, so understand what you are getting into. The alexandria office is pretty nice, the only office I've been to of his.
Dr. Prayaga is a kind, caring, doctor. I've enjoyed my visits with him thus far.
Pill pusher. Don't expect him to help you solve anything, but if you want meds, this is where to go.
Perhaps the weirdest medical visit I've had. Went in as a new patient to discuss/refill prescriptions from my former psychiatrist. There were 5-10 people in the waiting room and someone was being brought in and out of his office every few minutes. I got taken back after waiting ~15 minutes and was with him for about 3 minutes total. I was SHOCKED he didn't verify my prescription of a schedule II controlled substance before writing it for me (every other MD has been careful to verify my Rx if I was getting it from them for the first time and counsel on its use before prescribing). I really believe that anyone could walk in, ask for any drug they want and walk away with it no questions asked... a bit scary. Definitely has a factory-like feel like he's trying to see as many patients as possible as quickly as possible. Maybe this works for some people who just need quick med management for a pre-diagnosed condition, but if you want someone who actually takes time to know you or your symptoms, this is probably not the place for you.
Dr. Prayaga has a great bedside manner and has also helped me a great deal through his clinical expertise. Thanks!
I became concerned while waiting to see Dr. Prayaga on my first appointment. The waiting room was full, but every patient was in and out of his office in five minutes or less. Dr. Prayaga asked me next to know questions about my medical history, reduced one of my medications by 1/3, causing me to go through horrendous withdrawal symptoms, and answered none of my questions. I ended up seeing Dr. Prayaga a second time so I could renew my prescriptions while waiting for an appointment with another Dr. and had the same experience.
Very nice & discrete
Very attentive to your needs.
I've been seeing Dr. Prayaga for a couple of years and he is great. The appointments are very fast because medication management. But he always asks about my family and exercise routine. I have longer appointments with my therapist and "talk therapy" I guess. I'm grateful that Dr. Prayaga accepts my insurance!
He would not do what i asked him to do and now I have to go back or wait 2 weeks for my daily medication.
Addressed my needs , personable and helpful
My goal was to renew myRX, which was accomplished. I agree with what everyone has said in these reviews. The aspect I was not expecting was that the Dr made assumptions about my medical history and then gave advice based on those assumptions and did not feel a need to get the info. Ex. He suggested that if I want to try something additional that I use medicine X. I said that I had had an issue with med X previously and that I was not interested in it. Rather than ask what my issue had been, he said that I had not felt it take affect because I had not given it enough time in my system. When I said that the issue I had was a strong GI disturbance, he agreed that maybe it is not the best medicine for me. He really does not consider the specific chemistry of individuals but equated medicines as no different from each other, it is just the way they approach the dopamine source - similar to regular, premium and mid-level gasolines. You may pay more for one yet they give the same results.
My visit Dr. Prayaga was great. The office staff was very pleasant and they made sure everything is in line paperwork wise to get you in and out. Meeting with Dr. Prayaga was very comforting. He talked to me about my previous medicine and how it was working and wanted to make sure I was completely satisfied with my course.
My visit with Dr. Prayaga was fantastic. He listened to me, educated me on what i was experiencing, shared with me options for treatment and made himself available to communicate should i have any further questions!
My experience as a first-time patient was fine. Dr. P is nice. He does not take the time to get to know patients very much--my first visit was less than 10 minutes. But for medication management, this is perfect.
He operated out of a Chiropractors office on a Saturday, which is fine. However, he only accepts cash and books his appointments in five minute increments. Hardly enough for a real diagnosis.
Entire thing took about 15 minutes. But that is ideal for me.
This "Doctor"s priority is not to understand his patients, but rather to see as many as possible. For my second visit, after prescribing me new medication I had never taken before, I was taken back into his office fairly quickly. I sat down and he made awkward small talk of things he would have known if he had reviewed my file AT ALL (e.g. "so, do you work or are you a student?", "do you have a family or do you live alone?") while he copied the prescriptions from the paper the front desk lady gave him to the prescription sheets. I was in the office all of 30 seconds while he wrote the prescriptions, handed them to me, and said, "have a good day." He didn't ask me how I was feeling with the new meds or anything- since he didn't look at my file, I assume he didn't even know they were new... This guy is a quack. Also, the office is in some sort of creepy converted apartment building. The in-unit restroom has a bathtub in it, and no soap or paper towels, so I guess the staff doesn't wash their hands after using the facilities....I DO NOT RECOMMEND. Unless you just want your scripts and not to be monitored...
Very understanding of my needs and did not second guess my desired treatment.
His visits are like an assembly line. As soon as I go in, he does not take the time to talk with you or anything. During my last visit, the office staff stated that I owed the office money, and the doctor said that he would no longer see me because of the bill and he had rent to pay and staff to pay. Once he found out that I was on Medicare, he quickly changed his tune and stated I didn't have a bill. Terrible service!!!
They sent invalid "copy not for dispense" prescriptions to my pharmacy and refused to handle it for over a day. Leaving me without my medication the day before and day of exam. I have been with Prayaga for over a year and will not be coming back.
very professional and direct doctor. highly recommend -- although be aware he has a lot of patients and will not spend more than 15 minutes with you.
He was really great. It's always a little weird on the first appointment because I don't know what to expect, but he made me feel very comfortable right away and was very responsive.
Dr. Prayaga was very friendly, warm, and listened to me give my personal information. His office was really busy, with people going in and out fairly quickly; I saw him for the purpose of medication maintenance from a previous provider, so my quick appointment experience was not a problem. I can't speak to what his appointments would be like if you are looking to go to try out new medication, but for maintenance it was a positive experience.
The waiting room was the worst part. The tysons location was packed with not enough seating and only one receptionist. My actual meeting with Dr Prayaga was great. He was efficient and clarified everything I needed to know about my new medication and diagnosis.
Office staff was just short of rude. Dr was personable and knowledgeable. Easy to talk with
Really good first time visit. Felt like Dr.Prayaga & Joe really cared about my overall health. They explained everything exceptionally well.
Dr. Prayaga is always the best, no wasting time! My medication management is such an ease with his practice.
NOT IN NETWORK!!!! The fact Zoc-Doc says they are In-Network, is not necessarily their fault. Had I not been waiting in the office for 45+ minutes before I was addressed, and told my co-pay would be almost 7X what I was expecting. Instead, I walked in and saw a piece of paper taped to the wall that said "sign in here", I was instructed there was no sign in, and I was to just take a seat. There were probably 10 others there waiting. Each one was hurried in and out in less than 5 minutes (still puts my wait at 50 min). 40 minutes in, one woman was asked for her ID, she took that opportunity to ask if this would be "standard", to which the clerk said "yes, of course". She wasn't too happy about that. She mentioned she had been waiting and her appointment was supposed to be 5:45p. This puts her appointment 5 minutes after mine. Mind you, I have never seen this Dr before and would be SHOCKED if an initial consultation took less than 5 minutes. At the same time, the girl sitting next to me, tells me her appointment was also scheduled at 5:40. So, they aren't going in order of appointments, they're double (or triple) booking and basically feel like a groupon style conveyer belt service. If you want to see a Dr for just long enough to tell him what drugs you want and be handed a script, this may be your place. Just be prepared to spend an hour waiting and possibly find out the information provided on ZocDoc is incorrect. As I left, I was told by the clerk he would let ZocDoc know about the issue... I find that unlikely, it would be bad for his business.
Very considerate and listened to you to help you. Very happy ??.
My first visit was a very enjoyable experience. I was able to be seen right away and did not have a long wait time in the waiting room. The doctor was very personable and professional and able to provide me the care I was looking for. I plan to continue using this doctor. Additionally it is very convenient that he offers varying office hours at multiple office locations. This makes it very accommodating to schedule appointments. The reception staff that I have interacted with have all been very friendly as well. Overall the entire experience of my first appointment made a great first impression.
Dr. Prayaga was thorough and quick. He presented me with multiple options and explained the side effects, pros and cons of each option.
Great for medication management. Really nice guy, the assistant for new patients who did the initial evaluation was great too. Lady at the desk was not incredibly friendly but that's often to be expected. Would recommend if you don't need extensive therapy and can keep things under control with adequate medication.
Will get you the meds you need. In and out. Not much of a talker and that is okay because he is not a psychologist. Just would like to be made to seem like my appointment mattered. Since we are the ones providing him business it only seems fair to get the whole experience of having him listen to what the problem is and giving recommended meds at the appointment not at a later date through email and phone. Especially when one is driving 40 plus minutes to get help.
I was seen immediately. The doctor was courteous and answered all my questions. The office was a bit strange. It seemed like it was in an old apartment converted into offices and the bathroom had no paper towels or anything to dry your hands on. I have to assume the doctors must not wash their hands after using the facilities.
Very nice and very quick! Exactly what I needed.
The way in which you feel about Dr. Prayaga is all in your preferences--if you are someone who has a set medication routine and you want someone to write your prescriptions, Dr. P is your man. If you want someone to have more thorough discussions with your medication regime and possible changes, I would not recommend him. There have been a couple instances where I felt like I needed to change my dosage or add an additional medication and I had to stop him before he started writing my old script. He is always willing to hear his patients and will honor what the patient feels is best for them. He is not a psychiatrist who will do talk therapy with you--I would consult a counselor for that instead.
I had a good first experience with Dr. Prayaga yesterday. He was friendly, professional, and he listened to me. My appointment wasn't lengthy, but it was easy for us to cover all of the basics in a few minutes because I've seen other psychiatrists in the past and am familiar with my diagnoses and Rx needs.
He is a mean person, and not a very good doctor. He spoke to me for 15 minutes, cut down on my medicine (which I've been on for almost 10 years) and prescribed me something new. He said I could email him anytime, but when the new medicine was causing some side effects he took 24 hours to right me back. Then he tells me to get off the medicine (24 hours later!), and then he basically doesn't want to help me anymore. I ask him if there is something else he can prescribe, as my underlying condition hasn't changed. He refused and said he wouldn't see me until I got a physical. Such an uncaring doctor. I won't be going back.
After seeing doctor for a year, he asked me to complete a urine and drug screen at a lab facility 5 hours from my House to make sure I as actually taking the medicine, Adderal, and not selling it. The doctor failed to sign and complete the order form correctly: 1) he did not sign under physician signature 2) he did not check off which lab/screening tests he was ordering 3) used barely legible free-text to enter "urine and drug screen" without Identiying attached ICD10 billing He gave me a 7 day script and says I must come back, painful fees, and still did not complete Lane form right. As a 30 year old Registered Nurse, I have never heard of giving someone a drug test to prove they take a drug. It's embarrassing enough to deal with Adult ADHD. He just made it that much more difficult.
Seen right on time and appreciated the doctor's thoughtful questions and availability. Highly recommended.
Dr. Prayaga is knowledgeable. During my consultation, he mentioned clinical facts related to my medications that only someone with deep dedication to their work would take the time to learn. He is friendly and makes you feel comfortable. I am going to continue my care with him.
I've been a long time patient of Dr. Prayaga, I drive from Culpeper to his office in Alexandria or in Tyson's Corner, literally 80 miles each way. I hope that will emphasize my satisfaction with his services of my medication management. I think many people forget that a psychiatrist's job is to focus on medication, they're not a therapist. I've seen some reviews that have complained about this, if you're looking for someone to talk to and vent, then you need to explore psychotherapy, but if you are in need of medication to help you cope with your mental health, Dr.Prayaga so far has been the best. Just remember, mental health treatment is a combinations of treatment. There's no magical pill to help you. I'd recommend seeking Dr.Prayaga for medication management, then finding some source of therapy, and exercise! These combinations will greatly improve your life.
I've been seeing Dr. Prayaga for a couple years. He is extremely patient and helpful. He always asks about my exercise routine and lifestyle habits. The appointments are very fast which is fine with me because I understand it is medication management. I have longer appointments with my therapist. I'm grateful Dr. Prayaga takes my insurance too. This is unusual because many psychiatrists do not accept insurance.
Doctor was wonderful. Very soft spoken and understanding. Provided insight to my problem and explained my medication to me thoroughly. Lots of availability which is good. Only complaint I have was the receptionist. He was quite rude and disorganized. Try to tell me he gave me my script when In fact it was in my chart. Fourtantely didn't have to deal with the receptionist too long. Highly recommend this doctor.
He was very empathetic and insightful on my particular issues. He told me to feel free to e-mail him anytime, and that he's consistently checking his e-mail even on weekends.
Terrible psychiatrist, but the appointments are short.
Absolutely friendly and makes one very comfortable. Excellent Dr.
If you just need your meds and you live in the area, Dr. Prayaga will probably do the trick for you. If, on the other hand, you are expecting actual treatment or diagnosis of a pyschiatric disorder, look elsewhere. When I entered the office, there were at least five other patients waiting, all of whom were seen in the twenty or so minutes between my arrival and the end of my visit. I suppose operating like that is efficient, but the entire experience made me feel like a part on an assembly line. I had no real choice, of course, as the consequences of withdrawal from my medication are too dire to consider quitting; had I been in any actual danger or needed anything more than a scrip, however, my visit would have been entirely useless.
He cranks out prescriptions. I have explained to him on two separate visits that a particular medication was not working for me; instead of recommending something new or asking any follow up questions whatsoever, he just scratched it off and wrote the other of my two prescriptions. Also, I have attempted twice now to explain increased anxiety issues with Dr. Prayaga and he has been dismissive -- no follow up questions were asked nor medication recommendations offered. Additionally, there is little to no patient privacy in his downtown office; you can hear through the doors and the "reception" area is basically just a desk in the middle of the room where any conversations between staff and an incoming patient can be easily heard by everyone else in the room. Seriously considering reporting him to the appropriate licensing authority. I am currently in the process of finding a new psychiatrist, ideally one that sees patients as more than just an opportunity to collect a copay.
He's great, very to the point with medication.
Doctors manner was ok office is a bit crowded and disorganized and did not review my records before meeting could have more standard office procedures and payment options
I think if you know what medication you want it can be a good fit. Not much consultation, but efficient ifnthat is what you are looking for.
Was very fast and simple!! Great doctor
Doctor was very responsive to my concerns. There was a very small wait to get in, but not bad at all. Only concern was that the office could use a little bit more in the way of sprucing up. It feels somewhat empty and stark.
Frequently cancel appointments without warning. You might see a doctor other than Dr. Prayaga, but you won't know until you get there.
Same as everyone above. He is a pill guy, not a true psych. I'm personally okay with that, but I know many aren't. Office was also very "family run" as opposed to stone cold professional, I guess to say.
Appointments are quick. If you're looking for someone to talk to about your problems, look elsewhere. Dr Prayaga is perfect for me because he gives me tools to help me deal on my own, which is exactly what I needed. I'm not about to spill my guts to a stranger, that's what wives are for.
Very quick appointment but great if that's what you are looking for. In and out with a prescription in a short amount of time! Doctor was very nice and easy to chat with.
Dr Prayaga was great.
Always a pleasure. Personable and professional.
Exactly what I was looking for - quick and efficient but also offering helpful advice for my medication.
Dr. Prayaga is excellent and very supportive. The appointments are quick because medication management. I have longer appointments with my psychologist and "talk therapy" in those sessions. Dr. Prayaga always asks about my family and also my exercise routine.
Dr. Prayaga is an excellent clinician.
I think Rama Prayaga is great Gentleman he helped me, acted professional and Had very calm presence, just make sure to make time to follow up with him.
Will visit again
Awesome Doctor and would definitely recommend again
I went in for an appointment with Rama and it was great! I went in and after doing some paper work, I went straight into the office and was out within 15-25. The appointment was quick and efficient leaving me a lot of time to handle some errands later in the day. Generally, when I go to the doctors, I wait 30 minutes in the office, 30 minutes for the doctor to show up after being checked up on by a nurse, and another 30 minutes to learn I have to be sent to a specialist which will take the exact same amount of time. This leaves me with a large piece out of my day which Rama saved me from. He is efficient, knowledgeable, and caring with his practice and takes his job very seriously.
I have seen Dr. Prayaga a number of times. The first time I went to see him for a consultation, I was in his office less than 5 minutes and left with a prescription. After 4 appointments, I have spent less than 20 minutes with him. He rushes people in and out and makes judgments based on those minutes or less. I told him my depression was worsening and he wouldn't increase my medications because I would gain weight. He didn't suggest that I try a different anti-depressant that wouldn't have those effects. Instead he just denied me medications. When I expressed concern, he recommended me to his coworker, a nurse practitioner that could give therapy. This nurse practitioner was HORRIBLE. He refused to prescribe any medications even though Dr. Prayaga said he would. He told me to buy nutritional supplements, which is fine. Then, he lectured me for 30 minutes on how I WOULD NOT get better until my husband did and that I needed to prove to my husband that I loved him. That I wasn't cooking enough or being romantic enough and that his issues were my fault. He said that once my husband was better then we could treat me. I refuse to prescribe to the belief that I should suffer with depression with no treatment just because my spouse is also going through it. I can not help someone if I cannot help myself. After one month of crippling depression, and paying for 4 visits, I have no additional medication, no strategies on how to take care of myself or get better, and no one worried about my well-being. Dr. Prayaga and anyone in his 'New Stress Clinic' are not worth the visit if you need changes to your medications or help coping.
I am not sure where to begin...the Dr. was not really there to help per se. This had more of a pill factory atmosphere to it. I waited for a long time for my 2nd visit. Not the most hospitable arrangement.
Accurate treatment and diagnosis. Pricing very fair for my coverage. Strong bedside manner and very professional. Helpful and well-connected when dealing with multiple complex problems.
I had sent my insurance information prior to my visit but the receptionist did't have it. She said I should've sent it earlier and I said I had included it while scheduling the appointment. She emailed the insurance company to confirm I was insured. Not her fault but the info I gave prior to the appointment was not given to the receptionist.
I had a wonderful visit. I was there about 5 minutes prior to my appointment time. I checked in and saw the Dr. within 5 minutes. I spoke with Dr. and was out in no time. Very professional staff. Will be returning!!
I'm happy with Dr. Prayaga and will continue going back, but he may not be for everyone. I wasn't looking to open up my soul to a stranger, I was looking to get a little help via medications to help me deal with my issues myself. Dr. Prayaga has been very easy to talk to and gave me recommendations that have helped me greatly since I started seeing him. My visits with him typically last about 5 minutes, so he may not be what everyone is looking for but for an independent-minded person like myself looking for extra support to help myself, he's been perfect.
Very brief appointment, seems to see a lot of people.
Dr. Prayaga is excellent. I've seen him for over 2 years and he always asks about my lifestyle and exercise routine. My appointments are very fast because we have established a good medication program. I have longer appointments with my therapist and more "talk therapy" in those sessions.
Exactly what I was hoping for. VERY knowledgeable and kind and thorough.
This Office is ONLY interested in money. I would not go here if you really need help. I felt like all my appointments were merely business transactions. Dr. Pryaga never evaluated me he just kept writing prescriptions from the bottles my previous doctor prescribed. When I suggested that my dosage needed changing he immediately dismissed me. Also, he had the audacity to have a young family member sit in one of my appointments. This young man was clearly not old enough to be in college yet he told me that he was "job shadowing" him. Even though he asked if I was comfortable with him in the room, I felt that this was completely unacceptable. I wasn't comfortable with it at all and believe that it is a violation of patients rights. I would understand if he were in Med school but that was certainly not the case.
Very professional listens to my concerns. Was not rushed
The staff was very friendly and attentive. Dr. Prayaga listened to my concerns and provided me with great feedback on my treatment. I would highly recommend his practice to anyone seeking a doctor who is willing to listen and help find answers to their problems.
He's not a counselor type. He writes prescriptions. If you want to just say the right things and get a scrip, here's your guy.
Dr. Prayaga was AWFUL! This was my initial consultation and he literally did not ask me ONE SINGLE QUESTION about myself or how I was feeling. He asked if I had been on any medications in the past, to which I answered "Yes 4 years ago", and then he proceeded to explain my past medications to me and begin writing me another prescription for them. I stopped him to tell him that I didn't like those medications and why, so he explained a different medication to me and wrote me a prescription for that. I asked him what symptoms this medication treated and he said "the ones you circled on your paper" (note: the only form I filled out was a paper where it listed symptoms and I had to circle the ones that I felt, no room for explanations or filling anything in). In addition, he didn't ask me if I was currently on any unrelated medications (which I am) or if I have any drug allergies (which I do). And no, this wasn't asked on any form anywhere either. The whole thing took less than 5 minutes. I would expect this kind of interaction in a follow-up appointment, but to not ask me a single question about myself, my past, how I'm feeling, or why I'm there in an initial consultation is UNACCEPTABLE.
Dr. Prayaga is a doctor by licensing only. He does not fit the description of someone who heals, treats, and cares for patients. His service to the area is solely to medicate and prescribe. Expect appointments to be 20 seconds long, expect to wait out in the cold during winter for 15-20 minutes because (yet again) Dr. Prayaga is late, expect him to take personal phone calls during your 20 second appointments (yes, it's deplorable), expect unprofessional staff...Generally, have low expectations of what a psychiatrist should be and you will be happy with Prayaga. People often go here because his services will satisfy you if your goal is medication, and he is open on weekends. It's a shame.
The doctors assistant didn't seem well trained or professional. He wore flip-flops and jeans. There was no sign in and the office procedures were unclear.
I really cannot stand this doctors office. He will not prescribe 3-month refills and it is marketed to the clients as 'caring' and 'wanting to have a relationship with his patients' however, the last 3 times I was there we did not even speak. 'relationship' - BS. He just wants to collect his copays every month.
Dr. Prayaga was very pleasant and helpful. I truly appreciated his compassionate care. He is an excellent psychiatrist.
My visit today was wonderful. Dr Prayaga listened to the reason and understood why I needed treatment. Gave me positive words of encouragement. I will be returning.
He was very easy to talk to and very professional. I will definitely be going back!
Dr. Prayaga and his staff were incredibly professional, prompt and helpful. There was little to no wait time and Dr. Prayaga was great at listening to my concerns, making me feel comfortable and setting up an ideal routine for me. I left the office extremely happy and excited for the better sense of control I will have in my life. I highly recommend Dr. Prayaga to those looking for a good psychiatrist!
He was nice and very personable. The attendant was a bit short with me when my appointment was done. I didn't understand that there was a co-pay and was ready to leave. That wasn't explained beforehand. But overall good service and the availability/location were the factors that sold me.
Thanks for a great visit. Dr. P got me on the right regime and it works well for me.
Dr. Prayaga is excellent. I've been seeing him for about 2 years and he is very helpful and empathetic. He always asks about my exercise routine and other lifestyle habits. The appointments are very quick because medication management; I have longer appointments (i.e. "talk therapy) with my social worker.
Dr. Prayaga is wonderful...however, his staff is TERRIBLE! The guy who works at the front desk for him is, and ALWAYS has been, rude, aggressive, patronizing and completely disrespectful. I hate calling or coming in ONLY because of having to deal with him. I've always heard other patients say the same so it's not just a problem he has with me.
I am absolutely shocked and appalled that people like Dr. Prayaga. I am writing this review so others can be aware and look past his 4+ star rating. I have been going to him for 2 years (I'll explain why in a second) and this is NOT how medication management works. I sit down, he looks at what I was prescribed last month (it's been the same for 2 years), writes the Rx, and that's it. It takes 2 minutes and I'm not exaggerating. He does not ask any questions pertaining to my mental health. I am not expecting a half hour session to talk about my feelings but I expect and am entitled to a quality conversation about what's been going on. One time, I walked in and he asked, "How's your man Bernie?" Not once did I ever say that I liked Bernie Sanders. So now my psychiatrist is making an incredibly inappropriate assumption about my political views. Is it because I'm a young woman? Pretty offensive... The only reason I have stayed as long as I have is because he is on ZocDoc so I don't have to deal with office staff, evening appointments are always available, he is located 5 minutes from my home, and the hassle of finding a decent psychiatrist is an arduous task. He is not only running a pill mill but a scam. Psychiatrists typically see their long term patients on a quarterly basis unless something drastically changes. He requires monthly appointments for what reason? He isn't checking in. He can see that I'm alive and breathing in those 2 minute sessions but that's it. He wants your insurance copay and that's it. I was desperate at the time but now I am moving on. You should too.
Dr. Prayaga was great!
Dr Prayaga is a very compassionate Dr. Is very enthusiastic about life and wants you to be that way: the day is beautiful, enjoy it ! His easy going personality give you security and faith. Very considerate.
The PA wrote me a prescription that could not be filled because his/her DEA # was incorrect. It was very annoying to get a prescription that could not be filled.
He was great!! very attentive to my needs and answered all of my questions
The doctor is easy to talk to and he is open to following the patient lead in what is most important to that person. The office staff definitely needs some support- a lot of confusion at times but if you are able to see the doctor he will get you in and out in now time.
I thought dr was insightful and knowledgeable of add. Was willing to change meds as discussed. Only complaint was that time with dr was too short, especially for a first time consultation.
I have been a patient of Dr. Prayaga for several months now, and I have not had any negative experiences with him or his office until today. I called his office approximately 15 minutes before my appointment time to advise them that traffic was really bad and I would likely be 10-15 minutes late for my appointment. The young lady that I spoke to said, "Okay, that should be fine." I arrived about 13 minutes after my scheduled appointment time, and when I walked in, the cleaning crew for his office advised me that the office was closed and the doctor had left for the evening. In my opinion, this was extremely unprofessional as I had contacted them to advise that I would be late, so I feel that if they decided to go ahead and close and leave the office, then someone should have called me to let me know. I drove 40 minutes from work to his office just to find they were closed and I would not be seen. I understand I was late, but a simple courtesy call to advise me that no one would be there when I arrived would have saved me driving all the way to his office unnecessarily. While I am not happy about how this evening unfolded, I will still continue to see Dr. Prayaga because my overall experience with him has been positive. My hope Is that this feedback encourages his office staff to be more considerate of the time it takes patients to come to appointments, and give the same respect they expect when it comes to scheduling and keeping appointments. I was considerate enough of their time to contact him to let him know I would be late, and I feel that I deserved the same in return.
Dr. Prayaga is a terrible excuse for a psychiatrist and has no morals. When I first saw him, I informed him that I had previously been diagnosed on multiple occasions with bipolar disorder, severe depression, and anxiety disorders. He looked up at me performed what I can only assume was clear stereotyping based on my gender, race, and clothing (as I had come straight from my 9-5 office job). He told me that actually, I just had what he liked to call "white-collar" sadness and proceeded to write prescriptions for medications with no further questions about my medical history, allergies, or anything else. The whole FIRST appointment took all of 5 minutes, and the rest were 30 seconds. He never changed my medication, often forgot to write dosages, or accidently mispelled medication names. He makes you come in every month even after a year of seeing him just to collect his copay. Local pharmacies will not accept his scripts, anymore. Do not go to him - his is a pill mill!
Very to the point and knowledgeable.
This office was really easy to find, a straight shot from the Metro. Staff was very polite and quick, and while busy, there was essentially no wait. Dr. Prayaga was kind and professional, and genuinely seemed to care. Refreshing and highly recommend!
It was like a cattle casting call to be an extra in a movie. It didn't feel like a safe environment for mental health issues from the very beginning. It was almost like a sales pitch for a time share, where you get ushered to the back to discuss options. There is no actual treatment at this facility. Do not waste your time, if you're actually looking for help.
Very professional and accurate with the medications for my conditions.
The only reason I say "Probably Not" instead of "Never!" with recommending him, is if you need your meds, he will write them for you. But, if you need consultation, or are in transition with medications, don't go to him. He just fills the Rx and gets you out the door. As others have noted, he is a "pill mill." The final straw for me was the last time I saw him: as I went out, he asked me to hand a bunch of medical files to bring to the front desk. I'm not sure what was in the folders, but I found that a bit horrifying and a potential invasion of privacy. I'm using him for now, until I get an appointment with a psychiatrist I like and trust.
Good doctor to see if you know exactly what medications you need and are a low-maintenance patient. Nice for managing general psychiatric issues such as anxiety or ADHD, but I would see someone else if you have mental health issues that require additional attention and direction or need serious meds. If you are looking for a psychiatrist that will just give you the script and get you out the door, he is a good person to see. I think he does care about his patients but spends limited time with them.
Best doctor ever
This office changes locations at the last minute when i had already scheduled the appoijtment at a closer location they changed that to washington dc which i cant get to easier
Excellent doctor and very empathetic!
This doctor has no interest in talking to patients. He has been "treating" me for a year, but does nothing more than write a prescription and push you out the door. On the last visit I told him I had lost my job because of my worsening mental state and feared I'd lose another soon. He didn't even discuss the dose of medication, etc. When I complained about this I was told clearly I could "find another doctor." It's basically a pill mill. Unfortunately, the in-network options for psych care in my network are very limited.
Will not be seeing this Dr. again. The place is basically a pill mill, and after my insurance wrongly denied several of my claims and I had the insurance company call them twice to confirm that I was covered and that they would be issuing payment the office still tried to shake me down for payment on the spot. Of course the whole story is a lot more detailed but I don't want to get into specifics. The whole place is shady. Avoid avoid avoid.
The office was almost overly laid back but then it was late Friday afternoon when I visited. The paperwork went quickly however the receipt for my copay was a copy of a copy in which they just wrote in the amount rather than giving me an actual copy of the credit card run. Dr. Prayaga was knowledgeable and responsible. I just changed insurance carriers so this was my first visit with a new psychiatrist after many years and he was interested in actually discussing our approach. He explained the general concerns with my regimen in a thoughtful and meaningful way and was willing to work with me to figure out the best system moving forward. I didn't know when booking the appointment that his policy prohibits 3-month refills with controlled substances but even with the inconvenience of the monthly doctor's visit, I'll be going back.
they are the best practice ever
Give me a lot of confidence because he knows what is better for me. THANKS !
Spectacular psychiatrist - would CERTAINLY recommend to family and friends alike. He is very caring and genuine in treating new patients. Also a very good listener. Appointments can be either in-depth or very brief - depending entirely on the patient and their situation. This allows for very efficient processing of patients, and, normally, short wait times. I have difficulty taking serious a couple of the negative comments below, but I suppose it's the nature of online posts - everything will have negative and positive comments, regardless of true quality. Dr. Prayaga's 4.5/5 (9/10) rating should speak for itself.
Rama was wonderful. He was efficient and friendly and very knowledgable. I definitely plan on continuing to see him.
I like the doctor, but he doesn't seem to remember me and generally seems sort of forgetful and glazed over. Very little inquiry and straight to prescriptions. I know this is a really internet troll thing to say, but... I sincerely suspect he's getting high on his own supply. On the other hand, if you're just looking for an easy prescription, this is your guy.
He is probably the most accessible doctor around. you can email him, and make an appointment anytime. But I am not sure if 5 mins is enough to go about the symptoms of complicated drugs if you are a new patient. if you are stable on your medicine he is perfect.
He operates out of a nice office building that is easy to find. The waiting room is very spacious with plenty of seating. They have magazines, tv and water. The receptionist is pleasant. Dr. Prayaga is great. He makes you feel very comfortable.
Dr. Prayaga is awesome! I literally drive over an hour to two hours (depending on traffic) to visit him, if that tells you anything. Dr. Prayaga isn't a therapist, his meetings are quick when necessary, but also very attentive when you need him to be. In my opinion, this shows that he actually cares about his patients rather than just being someone who writes prescriptions. I'm a young adult, I can't speak on his relation with other ages, but I have seen all different ages in the waiting room. Mental health can be like trying on pants, you never know if it's going to be the right fit until you try! Definitely make an appointment!
Great and efficient doctor!
Easy to get an appt and convenient Sunday hours!
Very great doctor if you are seeking a prescription. The Adderall has helped me greatly in every aspect of my life. Very grateful for the prescription. Kind of a pain because you have to go back every month for a new prescription. Very nice guy.
This process if for patients who already have their mental illness diagnosis and would like to maintain their current medication plan.
Dr. Prayaga seemed genuinely interested in my concerns which was comforting.
Addressed concerns right away. Interacted well with my daughter.
The appointment schedule was exact and took us in right at our scheduled time. Staff very polite and helpful.
The doctor was very friendly, courteous and helped me immediately. I was able to get a prescription to relieve my anxiety which was my biggest concern.
Four other people had the same appointment time as me. Only met with Dr. Prayaga for 10 minutes, who was very dismissive of my symptoms.
While the staff in his office were helpful and welcoming, Dr. Prayaga was not a good decision. I went to him for an evaluation. I was never asked about my health, what my stressors were, or what treatments I was using. Everything he asked had to do with what medication I wanted. Also, please note that the pharmacies in the area WILL NOT ACCEPT PRESCRIPTIONS WITH HIS NAME! No joke, the pharmacist stated that they simply do not accept anything from Dr. Prayaga. It just feels shady.
Excellent experience. The shortest wait time that I've had in any doctor's office and Dr. Prayaga is exceptionally personable, considerate, and responsive to questions.
A great doctor
Professional and personable. Always a pleasure.
Dr.Rama Prayaga has confident in what he does and that make me feel confidence Always ask me how do I feel and how I am doing and that interaction remembers me that I am not only a patient. He is very respectful and takes my input seriously and works with me.He creates a relationship between me and him and is very respectful.
Dr. Prayaga always listens attentively to my concerns and adjusts medication accordingly.
Ive seen Dr.P for about a year now, and ive had my battles waiting close to an hour for him, but he always give great advice and continues to be convenient for me. BUT i was told today that CVS will NOT refill ANY prescriptions written by Dr. P in and around his 14th st location. When i asked why, they all said they don't trust him. This is a big letdown to those who really need their prescriptions.
As good as can be expected for a 5 min visit.
Refilled scripts as always
The visit was terrific as always...the only issue seemed to be with Zocdoc having lost my information...but this was not the fault of the doctor...simply a website issue which I believe has since been fixed.
When I walked into the office, there was no-one waiting in the waiting room. I walked up to the receptionist and was notified that there was a very large payment due. when I asked about the payment, the he was very surprised that I was not notified before the appointment time that there was payment due. I would not recommend Dr Prayaga's Office.
Great doctor and always asked about my exercise routine and other lifestyle habits. It's a quick appointment for medication management; I have longer appointments with my therapist.
Absolutely terrible. On my first visit, Dr. P tried to get me on Adderall even after I told him I'm a recovering addict. The staff has a printout of all the patients Dr. P will be seeing that day and their prescriptions, which is in plain view of anyone who walks up to the counter. They give a piece of paper to take to Dr. P which says what Rx he'll be writing. He sees you for maybe 60 seconds (sometimes less) and then bills for an absurd amount. I feel bad for my employer, who sponsors my health insurance.
He was amazing doctor
Dr. Prays ha was somewhat helpful. However we never really discussed my issues. I did fill out a form listing my concerns but we did not discuss them. All he did was give me a prescription. I have another doctor that just medicates me. I went to him because I was hoping he was different. He does hold counseling sessions in Tysons Corner on Sunday's from 9 am to 12 pm. I live in Washington DC. That's quite a distance. I was disappointed.
Very nice offices,,,very nice treatment by staff
Very caring about his patients!
Dr. Prayaga is a capable clinician for patients on stable medication regimens who need a prescriber for maintenance. Appointments are long enough for the doctor to write prescriptions, no longer than that. Caveat emptor.
I left feeling encouraged.
Friendly, experienced, and great follow up instructions!
So many young girls probably family members work there.it's a zoo.nobody knows what is going on in that office.totall mess.you can never talk to doctor. Very mean and inexperienced office stuff. Office is Tysons corner is dirty. Appointments are never on time.they are always over booked.Dr doesn't spend any time with patients, he just write a prescription and kicks you out. Why do you think he always has appointment available??
It was easy. Didn't feel judged or afraid.
I see Dr Ghamar and be he is excellent . Very receptive to needs when it comes to medication and a great listener!! Recommend to anyone wanting help get there psych meds In check
Very helpful in many ways. The only concern I had was an unnecessary requirement for frequent office visits.
Good doctor, highly recommended.
I feel like Dr. Prayaga is very understanding and for the first time I feel like I'm not dealing with a Doctor who verifying my experience to what is written in a reference book opposed to what I'm telling them I'm going through. He could save my life!
I feel very comfortable with him since he always listen to me and is very concern about my mental health.
He was great!
Refused to prescribe me certain of the meds I need, even one that I've been on for 10+ years.
Didn't seem like the kind of place to go if you want an in-length therapy session/consultation, but Dr. Prayaga was professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and in the end, helpful for my particular needs.
Awesome and efficient
This doctor is wonderful.. No nonsense right to the point. Talks completely with you regarding your issues and has empathy with the cost of insurance copay. He listens and gives good feedback. Makes you feel a little less antsy and more relax the more you talk with him and the guy at the front desk is a riot! I enjoyed my first visit and will be back. I would recommend to anyone who needs a doctor like this.
1st time patient and as most of the reviews stated its basically a cattle herd come in and out for all of the patients I witnessed. Less than a 3 minute for most. I guess they were there just there to get their scripts. I got at at 10 minutes. The meeting was ok. Got some scripts so we'll see how it goes.
This seems primarily a fairly high volume med check office and there is definitely a place for that in today's medicine. Office called to confirm appointment in timely manner, very professional advised that first new patient form I was given was obsolete asked me to fill out the 'right one' Dr. Prayaga took time to address my questions and concerns and we agreed on a conservative course. Happy with provider service. Downtown location is convenient - rented location, zero signage indicating Dr. Prayaga or NewStress Clinic. Minimal privacy, crowded waiting room of 20/30 somethings getting their med check appointment or new scrip. Staff working hard to keep the schedule moving but the patient intake is disorganized and highly duplicative. Overall had to fill out three versions of new patient form 1 from website, 2 from confirmation email 3. paper at the office and two additional forms all with 95% overlap of information. Hand written receipt for co-pay. 1980s technology except the email and download they did not even use. A miracle they are not more behind schedule. In and out in 40 minutes. I arrived 10 minutes before appointment, it was 10 minutes behind schedule, 15 minute consult, 3-5 minutes waiting to check out and photocopy scrip.
I really enjoy visiting Dr. Prayaga- he is very understanding and provides all possible options aside from medication.
In spite of the relatively short appointments, he remembers me and is very considerate of my concerns. He asks the right questions and is very attentive.
Even though I may have been a few minutes late and forgot to complete all the paperwork that they emailed me about multiple times I was seen fast; piratically no wait time. He explained everything and offered support whenever I may need it.
Dr. Prayaga was excellent as always. He always asks about my exercise routine and very patient and understanding. The appointment is quick because medication management rather than talk therapy. I save that for my social worker (therapist).
Great experience. Would highly recommend this doctor!
If you know what prescriptions you need and just need somebody to write them for you, Dr. Prayaga is your man. He doesn't see patients more often than once a month -- in fact, if you want to see him earlier than that, you will need to provide his office staff with your airline itinerary or receipt for a rental car reservation (not making this up). Pharmacists have asked me questions like, "Doesn't he know that [insert common antidepressant here] doesn't come in that dose?" Apparently not.
A great experience!
Felt some anxiety before my appointment, but was pleasantly surprised at the ease of how things went. Very easy to talk to, short and to the point, very reassuring. I took me along time to address my issues, had I known how easy it was then, I would have done this years ago! I haven't began my new medications yet, but I feel confident and have faith that Dr. P is dedicated to my healing and improving my livlihood!
Everything was fine but the wait time was a bit long.
He is very kind and understanding. I would like to continue to receive his services.
Wonderful. very pleasant new offices too.
not attentive, specialized care. He'll give you a script the first time you see him and all meetings after that are less than five minutes each because he sees a stream of people nonstop all day, like an assembly line, just producing medication and refilling your initial script without really seeing how you are doing. He makes me feel worse after I leave because I don't feel like he cares and he shoos you out as quickly as possible so he can see his next patient. Will not be going back.
Great psychiatrist! I felt immediately comfortable. Go see him! I have seen many Doctors I have disliked. This one is one of the best.
The meeting was only for 10 minutes and seemed more focused on getting me a bunch of prescriptions rather than tackling the reasons why I was going in for the meeting in the first place. If you are just looking for an Rx then this is your place. If you are looking for someone to help you tackle your issues then you might want to consider someone else.
first visit was very much satisfied & looking forward to have the other visits the same
He saw each patient for about two minutes average if they were follow up. Good if all you care about is medication
Much better organized than my last psychiatrist. Even though there was a waiting the office environment was comfortable and spacious and the staff was engaging and professional.
He spends less than 5 minutes with me -- the place is sort of a pill mill. I do like him personally and I think he would be quite supportive in a crisis. Also, it's so hard to find any psychiatrist who takes insurance, I guess you have to be willing to make some compromises.
I had arranged an appointment with Dr. Prayaga with limited info, knowing it might not be the right long term fit. Dr. Prayaga gave me just what I needed: an outlet for discussing and issue, feedback, and a promise to help find someone who could more precisely help me with my issues. No complaints!
I had a really great experience with Dr. Prayaga! Making an appointment was convenient and easy: you can schedule appointments online (whether you're a new or returning patient), he sees patients at three locations in the DC area, and I was able to get an appointment within just a few days of the time of scheduling. I saw Dr. P at the 14th Street location in DC. The office space wasn't the prettiest thing I've ever seen (I think this location is a satellite/non-permanent office), but it's centrally located and easily accessible by Metro/car/foot. The wait time was no problem: I was seen about five or ten minutes after my appointment time. His office has patients complete and submit paperwork and insurance information in advance of the appointment, so I didn't have to worry about any of that when I arrived. (One negative comment: The office had a problem verifying my insurance coverage and called me the morning before my appointment to tell me that I needed to figure it out with my insurer or I'd have to reschedule my appointment. It turns out the office was calling the wrong number, and they could have figured this out with marginal effort instead of passing the issue back to me. But I was able to get it resolved efficiently, so no harm.) Dr. Prayaga himself was great. I've never seen a psychiatrist before, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but he had a great "bedside" manner that put me at ease -- he's a really smart guy, but very down to earth. He put a lot of thought into proposing the best treatment plan for my circumstances. I had appended a note to my intake form that explained why I was seeking treatment and what I hoped to achieve during the appointment. It was about four pages long, so I didn't really expect him to read it, but I figured I'd give it a shot anyway. I was pleasantly surprised to find that he had read every word of it: he brought up some things I'd mentioned in the narrative an explained how those things factored into my treatment plan. He also carefully explained the reasons for the treatment plan and patiently answered all of my questions, so I felt like I was an informed participant. The appointment was efficient, but I didn't feel rushed. My appointment was just this afternoon, so I can't yet speak to the efficacy of the current plan, but Dr. P let me know that I should expect to notice some positive effects within 7 to 10 days and encouraged me to call or email him to discuss adjusting the treatment plan in advance of my next regular appointment if I don't notice adequate improvement at the end of that period. In any event, I'm glad to have taken steps toward feeling better, and I feel very confident that Dr. P will make sure I get the best treatment possible.
Doctor not interested in listening to/speaking with patients. Rude as well.
I was waiting to place my review, I was planning on doing it my second visit, but there will be no second visit. He called me fat right off the bat the moment I sat down, basically blamed all my problems in being over weight, when I emailed him about the problems I'm having with the medication he prescribed me, he brushed it and me off as being a thyroid problem instead of trying to help me. He is a horrible person as well as a shotty pill pusher. Do not go to him if you actually value your mental health and well being. Seriously, it was like a revolving door with prescriptions flying out. His fake"care" about you is flushed down the drain the moment you question his choice in medication. I will never go to this sham again.
This doctor is not a counselor or therapist, more like a doctor to listen to you quick for about 5-10 minutes and then write your percripition.
He was very professional, listened to my concerns, and explained the treatment plan.
Dr. Prayaga was very attentive and responsive to my concerns. He was also quite keen on ensuring that I fully understood my treatment options, and did so with a very positive demeanor.
very rude office stuff. bunch of young teens run that office. very difficult to talk to doctor.
very nice and I'm hoping he is goood
If you want someone to simply sign a script, then I think Dr. Prayaga is ok. If you want someone to discuss medication management, of anything that takes longer than a fee seconds, then you should see another doctor. This was my second visit, and really it was like I wasn't even human.
Dr. Prayaga is by far the best Physicarits I've had.
Doctor Prayaga saw me in a prompt manner and really narrowed down to the core of my problem. He helped find out out which was the best treatment for me, and I walked out feeling happier than I have in a long time. If you're a busy professional, I'd recommend him wholeheartedly because he does not waste time like some other clinicians and has appointments at almost any time of the business day.
office is a mess. office managers are inexperienced and rude. I called the office to get medication for my son and two women at the office hang up the phone on my 4 times!!!
They took me even though I was late. And I couldn't have been more appreciative!
Consistently late to the point of predictability. Often rude. On 3rd visit it became clear doctor had not taken a single not about me.
Dr. Prayaga is the only Doctor to fully understand my current needs and be helpful.....
Attentive and listened well. Provided good overview of possible side effects from.medications. Overall good appointment
Awesome doctor, awesome experience. Glad I found him!
Dr. P was friendly, attentive and thorough.
Professional, sharp, concise. Answered all of my questions fully, explaining the advantages and disadvantages of treatment options. Did not rush me and seemed genuine in seeking what was best for me rather than simply prescribing medication and sending me on my way. Thanks Dr. Prayaga, I appreciate your time.
Quick and painless
He took me right away and the meeting was short, sweet, and to the point!
It did not seem as though he listened to me well. I also didn't understand his treatment recommendations.
He was not interested in listening to what I had to say. Quickly moved into an unethical approach to what is possibly illegal. I explained the test for ADD had never been performed but my primary suspected ADD. He immediately offered me a drug without anymore words. He said it was pricy but ineffective. They tried to pawn me out to his intern because I didn't want his drug. This guy is crooked and unprofessional. Watch it.
A was a good experience, evry one is very nice in his office, and he is very positive.
He appeared drunk or tired and messed up my prescriptions.
Very short introductory meeting. In and out pretty fast. Nice person.
Straight forward and he does not waist time I like this type of bedside mannor
Doctor was good but the appointments were all messed up and over booked.
Dr. Prayaga answered each of my questions and never made me feel rushed. Our appointment time was brief and to the point--he read up on my concerns prior to the appointment and asked a few questions about my prior experiences before allowing me to ask whatever questions I had for him. He strongly encouraged emailing him any questions I had, and indicated that he expected to hear from me within the next three days. That was much appreciated, knowing I could ask questions whenever I had them and expect a prompt response.
I've been seeing Dr. Prayaga for over a year and he is excellent. My appointments are quick because focused on medication management. But he always takes time to ask about my exercise routine and meditation etc. to reduce stress. I have a therapist and I see him for longer discussions.
I thought he was very attentive. The visit was a bit hurried but he was very responsive nonetheless.
Excellent! I love him
I had to wait for over an hour. They said they tried to contact me (the day of, and tell me my appointment was going to be later) but they only called once and did not leave a message.
Very thorough and knowledgable. I can tell that he is really vested in his clients' well being and treatment. I also didn't have to wait long before I was seen.
I felt that for the first visit, I expected more time to assess my needs. I was in the room for less than 15 minutes and he prescribed medication to me and while it was easy to go in and go out with a prescription, I would have appreciated feeling that he cared and why he would prescribe the amount or type of medication that was prescribed.
Thanks, Dr. P!
Great experience! Very informative. Will definitely be back.
Very attentive and allowed me too express myself. Explained risk and benefits of medication. Gave me the care I needed.
Great experience! Not a doctor if you dont have experience with medication. He will send you to a counselor beforehand for observation. Listens to my concerns and I can reach out to him anytime for questions or follow. I just wish he had a bigger office. Privacy is a concern.
Dr. Prayaga knows his stuff very well.
The dr was friendly and straight forward
Seemed like he just wanted to prescribe medicine and be done with it. Office was very shoddy. Felt like a salesman, not a doctor.
As a new patient, I was expecting to spend minimally thirty minutes with Dr. Prayaga discussing my medical history, my current problems, and our treatment plan. Instead I spent 8 minutes with the doctor, during which he was on his phone and the only question he asked was about my medication refill. I will not be returning and would not recommend him.
He is so rational empathetic and always gives renewed sense of hope. GREat staff 2. CEL
He's a good doctor, though I wish he would be more willing to discuss side effects. As I am under this doctor's care as I withdraw from an antidepressant, I rather expect that this doctor should be able to help lessen the particular effects during withdrawal phase. I am experiencing a tremendous amount of dizziness and vertigo, yet he wanted me to go to my regular doctor for this symptom. Ha, that would only take another 2-3 weeks to get an appointment with that doctor!
Fast and cordial. I'd like to have had some more insight in the mental issues I'm facing.
I like the doctor , he is knowlagable in the point , i enjoyed my vist and talking to him
I felt like I was treated with care and that my needs mattered.
He's really kind and understanding.
Dr. Prayaga was very kind and professional. He quietly listened when I spoke and offered practical advice when I asked. Unlike most doctors, he laid out a variety of treatment options, briefly explained the pros and cons of each, and let me choose what best suited my needs and lifestyle. I appreciated this approach very much. My only complaint would be the admin/receptionists as they were neither courteous nor prompt. They also were shady about payments, which was unnerving. Otherwise, I had a very pleasant experience. If you are looking for an efficient provider who is straightforward, polite, and not hesitant to write you a prescription, I highly recommend Dr. Prayaga.
Very good experience with Dr. Prayaga.
I felt comfortable
He was very nice and gave good suggestikns
Knowledgable and precise
Good as always
Dr Prayaga was very helpful, understanding, and reassuring. Looking forward to going back.
Dr. Prayaga is a great physician and generally I get to see him in less than five minutes. However for this appointment I had to wait over an hour to be seen. He was very apologetic however and was able to provide me with the answers I was looking for.
He was very quick and to the point, but still kind and warm.
I would definitely recommend Dr. Prayaga. He was very professional. Very friendly. Made me comfortable the entire process.
He was very straightforward and I loved that he didn't make me talk about stuff that has nothing to do with my current issue. I finally found a doc who doesn't make me boohoo and whine all the time! It is also convenient I can email him instead of going in for an office call everytime I have a question or concern.
After a 5 minutes wait, I was able to see Dr. Prayaga and very helpful as always. I recently had an annual physical and brought my test results with me. Dr. Prayaga spent quite a bit of time going over my blood work etc. and I was impressed. After that, we discussed how I was feeling and my reaction to the medication. He asked about my exercise routine and stressed how important it is and also good nutrition. It was about a 10-minute appointment which is fast, but enough time to check and medication management.
Dr. P. was very easy to talk to and showed empathy for my struggles of coping with a mental illness. His instructions and explanations for my medications were clear. I especially liked that text messages were sent to remind me of my appointment. This is very helpful for patients who are having cognitive difficulty and forgetfulness.
Dr. Prayaga is very efficient and knowledgeable. He doesnt waste any time getting right to the heart of what brought you into his office. There were a couple of other new patients in the waiting room prior to my appointment which was the only reason it took almost 40 minutes for me to be seen. He gives each patient the time and care they are seeking when they go into his office. I didnt mind waiting at all and, from the quickness in which I saw that returning patients were in and out, I know that my next visit and any others will be much quicker. The waiting room has a television and the office staff was very friendly so the wait was very comfortable. I look forward to returning to Dr. Prayaga for my continued treatment and I would recommend his services to anyone looking to get right down to business dealing with whatever issues they are struggling with.
Seems sincere yet oddly nonchalant in his medication suggestions. More flippant than unethical
Great doc, really friendly. Staff was kind and quick. They made me feel like they respected my time. Office was easy to get to. Couldn't ask for more.
He is Nice and a good listener, he was not rushing, he was patient and listened to me for long while, I liked him the way he treats his patients so far.
Was not as helpful as hoped.
Updated meds quick and easy. He addressed my concerned about not wanting to be drugged up all the time. Left feeling great about my choices.
Dr. Prayaga was so expedient in getting to what was bothering me, to use my time wisely which I appreciated. He was direct, understanding and calm. I highly recommend him!
HE DEF. CARES ABOUT HISC PATIENTS AND MAKES SURE THE MEDICATION IS WORKING , BUT DOESNT WASTE TIME LETTING YOU WHINE ABOUT HOW HARD LIFE IS, ETC.......A CARING, EFFICIENT DOC - GREAT GUY,
This was my first visit. He seems nice and caring. I'll find out as I go along.
Was very helpful and polite! I enjoyed talking to him, I would definitely recommend.
Awesome as always
Dr. Prayaga is great about giving you exactly the prescriptions you ask for. You won't spend more than five to ten minutes per visit. If you're looking for a psychiatrist who wants to learn about your life, he is not your best bet.
Understood my problems quickly and discussed available treatment options in detail without being condescending or dismissive. Would see again if I were still living in the area.
Very caring person. Gave me the opportunity to explain him all my struggling symptoms. He listen to me and demonstrate caring and support.
Professional and personable! Would recommend without hesitation!
Dr. Prayaga is very efficient and gets down to the root of the issue quickly. I had never before spoke with anyone about my issues, but he made me feel very comfortable and I was able to speak freely.
Very understanding and a good listener, He explained to me everything i needed from life style to medication, he even explained to me my options
Great doctor! Very understanding of his patients and took the time to explain his treatment plan
It was a great appointment. He made me feel comfortable . Definitely ready for my next visit.
Fast, efficient. I showed up about 15 minutes early and was seen within five minutes or so. Appointment only took about 5-10 minutes and then I was on my way with a prescription.
Very nice guy and gets you in and out.
De. Prayaga is very undurstamding and engaging at every session.
I arrived to my appointment 15 minutes early and was seen right away. Dr. Pray aha was quick, knowledgeable and very friendly. I left the appointment with my prescription very pleased at how well my first interaction went with him. Highly recommend!
So strange. Told me that swimming in a pool or ocean would have the same effect as clonazepam. When I said that I was feeling depressed lately, he said something to the effect of: "What do you have to be depressed about? You are young, cute, have a great job, have everything going for you." Not really what one wants to hear from a psychiatrist...
Great doctor with excellent manner.
This guy is the best!
I've been seeing Dr. Prayaga for about a year. My first appointment was a bit longer, but now my appointments are quite fast which is great. I spend more time with my therapist who focuses on psychotherapy rather than medication management.
I thought he was friendly and knowledgeable. He listened and was attentive to any questions I had, which is key!!!
It was really quick but very helpful.
Lots of people coming in and out of this office, but once I entered his office, Dr. P did a great job making me feel as though I was the only patient that mattered. He listened to my concerns and provided excellent guidance on my issue. I happily walked out with my prescription in hand. Bonus points for his encouragement to contact him via email, and making a point to be available to answer any questions I may have (Monday - Friday).
Extremely professional and courteous. Dr. Prayaga provided multiple options that are compatible with my lifestyle.
dr. p is gr8 b/c he give time to catch up on life and cghallengs since last month, but will ever so politely call u out if you're not trying to fix life - awesome, calming dimeenor.
Very logical guy and spent time explaining the treatment. Much better than my PCP
Short and sweet...always remembers details about my case.
Dr. P. is very good at what he does.
I really appreciate Dr. P's Help. I had the hardest time finding a psychiatrist who would take insurance and because of that I thought that his service wouldn't be that great. I was wrong. He was quickly able to diagnose my problem and even pointed out things that were occurring in my life that I've been in too much of a fog to notice myself. He prescribed low dose medication and is taking a very conservative approach with me. I'm new to this and I expressed that I was afraid of how these drugs might affect me. He took the time to explain all the possible side effects and how to reach him directly if I feel something is wrong. He is a good guy.
Great doctor visit - easy to talk to
office staff is bad
As much as I dont want him to become in extreme demand, I have to be honest and say he is a caring, respectful doctor. the staff was extremely helpful.
Very direct and to the point. I saw him for a medication consultation after my evaluation. Dr. P was knowledgeable, warm, and very accommodating.
Friendly and polite. However, he was in a rush and did not ask me many questions. The appointment was only 5 minutes long and he did not write anything down, just handed me a prescription and told me to email him if I had questions. Probably a good psychiatrist for someone who already knows what medications work for them, but not so great for someone new to seeing a psychiatrist.
OMG. i should have known this was a scam artist posing as a dr when I parked into the lot that looked like a bazaar. Obviously he is a doctor running his practice in the middle of a strip sort of mall. I was there for about 10 min. He said pretty much nothing that is worthy then sent me off saying if I ever need Prozac etc I should call him. He is so bad he should be stripped off his md license.
Quick and efficient. Just the way I like to keep my doctor visits. I definitely recommend this practice.
The doctor was very nice. The staff was also very nice. The office was a bit chaotic. Lots of people waiting.
My visit was fast he def new what he was doing, def gave me hope with my issues and believe he will help me manage and maintain my issue under control.
Make sure to volunteer any information that you think the doctor needs to know, because he won't ask a lot of questions! I got the impression that he's very knowledgeable, but he sees a LOT of patients and you won't get much time with him, so don't expect him to spend long delving into your personal history. Do your research before you go and have some idea of what you need, and he's incredibly helpful!
Dr. P is very easy to speak with and knowledgeable about his field. I really like the visit and I plan to return.
offic staff is unprofessional
I've been going to Dr. P for 4 years and I think he's awesome.
The doctor is fine. His office team is either incredibly incompetent or running some kind of scam. They claimed they had emailed me about a high copay but they never did. The copay would only have been that high if they were out of network, which they never told me they were (they are listed as in Aetna network on ZocDoc). They weren't even able to provide me a receipt for my copay! They said they would email it to me, I double checked they had the right email address, and I never received it.
Most efficient doctor's office of all time. Dr. Prayaga is personable and provided thorough explanations of my treatment options.
Dr. Prayaga is excellent. He really focuses on medication management so, after the first appointment, subsequent appointments are very brief. I rely on my psychologist for longer appointments that involve psychotherapy rather than medication management.
DR Prayaga is always sharp and knowledgeable. Works well with my preferences. He is very responsive to my feedback and I always have the confidence that his decision reflect my preferences
My son feels very comfortable with him and feels he can talk openly with him.
He took the time to hear me out and accepted my insurance. Wouldnt change anything about the visit.
I was nervous about seeing a psychiatrist but Dr. Prayaga was very nice and reassuring. Also I was early and able to be seen right away, which is a plus.
He is very helpful and willing to work with you and your needs.
Very quick (staff and doctor); important to be on time, because they are. Also,… tho, Dr Prayaga seems genuinely to care about what's going on with me, and to be willing to explore alternative treatments.
Great bedside manner, Dr. Prayaga took his time. weekend appointment was extremely helpful.
The office itself is run in a very disorganized way that doesn't respect patients' time or privacy. The wait time was 45 minutes for a 10 minute consultation. The doctor didn't take much time to speak with me. He was nice, but overall the experience was bad.
He was very nice and genuine. The face-time lasted about 10 minutes and he talked to me about treatment options. He asked that I follow up with him in the coming weeks via email about my progress and to see him in a month. I feel comfortable with him. I would recommend him.
I liked Dr. Prayaga.
The facility leaves much to be desired at the Falls Church location, but the doctor is super nice and worth the drive from Vienna. Would highly recommend if you're looking for someone who truly cares about their patients!
I was late because it is hard to find parking in DC, but Dr. Prayaga was kind enough to see e right away. Thank You!
Dr. Prayaga is a very resourceful and wonderful doctor. He gives you tips and daily advice in addition to his treatment. Also, the time in his waiting room is always less than 10 minutes from checking in, even if I arrive early for my appointments. He's wonderful, and I highly recommend him to others.
Dr. Prayaga is ok if you don't want or need the doctor patient relationship. He doesn't discuss what you are being treated for; he just writes your rx & send you on your merry way.
I will admit the whole process for this doctor is very shady but I saw no flaws in his method. The appointment was quick but if long appointments were what your hoping for there are plenty of waiting list for psychiatrist in the surrounding city limits. He is very professional and kind.
Not very helpful and unprofessional
Dr. Prayaga is very helpful. His appointments are quick so I rely on my therapist to help me with cognitive work. Dr. Prayaga focuses on medication management. I appreciate the fact that he takes my insurance.
Dr. Prayaga made clear and thoughtful recommendations, suggested a conservative treatment approach, and monitored my progress carefully. He personally answered e mails if I had questions between visits.
Very helpful and knowledgeable!
Dr Prayaga was wonderful! He genuinely cared about learning more about me, my concerns and my needs. He made insightful suggestions and took his time talking with me. He is professional and kind. I would highly recommend him.
It was okay
I was a little disappointed with the wait time and the office location could have been a little nicer but was very happy with the fact that their office was open on sat and with Dr. Prayaga's friendly disposition and lack of time wasted once AT the appointment.
Doctor P was great and very easy to talk to. He was very professional about everything. There was no wait time. Maybe 5 minutes after I walked into the office I was seen. I highly recommend!
He was very quick at assessing my situation, but it did not feel like we missed anything. He was also very kind in his manner. The office was very close to--but a little difficult to find from the Metro (not familiar with area)--but everyone is helpful and considerate.
He will prescribe any medication, regardless of if it helps your condition. In an attempt to treat passing symptoms, I was given a medication that was commonly known to exacerbate symptoms of my underlying diagnosis. Needless to say, I felt awful for months until I finally found a different doctor. Dr. Prayaga runs a sketchy operation. Do not go here if you are serious about addressing mental health issues.
Pill mill. Man spent approx 45 seconds with me.
Doc is very understanding. He knows his stuff. Staff Is very professional and helpful.
Great as always, got me in early was very straight and to the point yet gave me the attention I needed.
very to the point and nice guy. Office is in a weird location, but that is fine. Billing, on the otherhand is difficult and unreachable
No long wait, was able to provide insurance info before arriving at the office to speed the process along. Minimal additional forms to fill out. Gentleman working the reception area very welcoming.
This was my first visit with Dr. Prayaga and I was a bit anxious after reading some reviews. After my appointment, I will absolutely be seeing him on a regular basis. Yes, the office location is odd and the space is bare bones. The waiting room is nothing fancy or sleek, but it is clean. And yes, it was busy. But the office administration staff was friendly and moved everyone through the process quickly. Despite the amount of people in the waiting room, I was seen less than 3 minutes after my appointment time. They keep to the schedule, but I never once felt rushed. A lot of that is due to Dr. Prayaga himself. I've seen over 20 of psychiatrists and therapists over the years. He listened to my problems more attentively than some talk therapists have. And certainly with more patience and empathy than half of the psychiatrists I've seen. He helped me narrow down the specific problems that I wanted to address. We discussed what medications had worked in the past and what hadn't worked. He gave me his recommendations and took the time to give me the pros and cons of the medications he was prescribing so I could make an informed choice. I left 18 minutes later, prescriptions in hand, feeling 100% comfortable with the treatment plan. One note--do check your prescriptions before you leave. One of mine was missing a dosage amount. He's busy and that happens, but double check everything before you leave. His office manager Angela was wonderful at getting the issue resolved for me. Bottom line--I felt like Dr. Prayaga actually cared about addressing my needs and getting me the best medical treatment possible. I will be back.
Great Dr! My first visit and he took care of everything I needed!
Another excellent visit and quick and efficient. I've seen some negative comments about quick visits; however, I have seen other psychiatrists over the past 20 years and, yes, some do spend more time but they also don't take insurance and charge very high fees per hour. Plus, in my experience, medical doctors do not engage in psychotherapy. If you want psychotherapy, I would suggest contacting a social worker or psychologist. If you need medication management, Dr. Prayaga is excellent and takes most insurance.
Disgusting office. Doc spends approx 3 mins with patients. Very creepy.
Short meeting, very efficient. Would not recommend if looking for a new doctor/first psychiatrist, but I needed someone to monitor my medications and check in with when I had weird side effects, and Dr. Prayaga is perfect for this. Responds to emails promptly and his front desk staff is great about answering/returning calls.
Very practical, direct, professional and knowledgeable. Just look past the aesthetics of the office.
Great doctor. Really understanding and helpful demeanor. Super nice and approachable.
Very nice gentleman. Very calm demeanor and good listener
Dr. Prayaga is a very good man. He listens well. Diagnoses my problem very well.
It was my first time seeing Dr. P and I was in and out in no time. He was very nice and gave me his email to keep in contact and responds in a very timely manner. Parking is a little difficult to find, but no harder than you would expect in DC.
I was completely sketched out by the shady office (a woman sitting on a couch is the receptionist, who neither smiles nor says hello), and incredibly nervous that I had to hand over a credit card before seeing him.... but Dr. P was awesome and I will be definitely be back. Patient, understanding, and as everyone else has echoed -- efficient. He definitely knows his stuff. If you want therapy, this is not your guy.
The waiting room was a small make-shift room that really just seemed to be part of a downstairs hallway. Frankly, the waiting room was a little depressing and the receptionist, while polite, was very quiet and just sat in one of the waiting area seats with her laptop and handed me forms. Dr. Prayaga's office was a different story. It was nicely decorated with nice couches and felt very comfortable. The appointment was quick, which is good for me because I needed to find a doctor in the area to maintain my pre-established prescriptions. Dr. Prayaga did seem concerned about my well-being and gave me sound advice. He was happy to continue the meds that were working for me. He was friendly and encouraged me to contact him at any time. The place doesn't give off a good first impression but I was very satisfied at the end for what I came there for. I will return in the future.
excellent, attentive, caring, thoughtful
Bare bones office but my impression is that he's a good psychiatrist. His administrator and the woman who manages his phones are also very courteous.
Very personable and friendly
It was my first visit and I left feeling comfortable and confident about keeping him as my psychiatrist.
Small, disorganized office. Doctor was nice if distracted.
If all you want is drugs and missed appointments you found the right place.
Excellent! Gentle bedside manner. I can't recommend Dr. Prayaga highly enough.
Doc Prayaga is a-ok I don't say that easily- but he truly is .!!!
Physician offers good advice, but his office is run like an assembly line. He has never asked me for my medication history or other important factors and seems to have one preferred approach to handling any given condition. With that said, he might be the ideal doctor for the K Street crowd.
He was a good listener but got right to the point.. he's seen "it" all I suppose and can analyze most people's needs fairly quickly. He has a very well rounded approach and I loved him including swimming as part of my mental therapy in addition to meds.
The office is very shabby but Doctor P is nice.
quick, easy, effective!
It was a great experiences, the doctor was very knowledgeable and helped understand the possible conditions
He was really good and listens well. I was in and out in 15 minutes and I felt like he was really understanding as opposed to skeptical. One of my most relaxing and easy appointments I can remember!
I went to the office in McLean, and Dr. Prayaga's name was nowhere to be seen. He needs a sign or some kind of indication that his office is downstairs in the lower level at the address given.
The office in Falls Church was dingy and worn out. The building was sketchy. And he rushed me out of the office after a 15 minute (at best) first consult, to rush to his next appointment elsewhere.
This doc is not one that I recommend. His office is very shady. Despite having my son's neurologist AND neuropsychiatrist call and say that the need for medication is valid and they want a psychiatrist to write it, despite me providing medical records from well over a year ago....he says he can't adequately handle my son's care. I suspect it's because he doesn't want a "challenging" patient. I feel that this doc is a glorified pusher and also very lazy - he claimed he had no idea why my son would need the particular medication because he had never heard of it. I easily hit Google and emailed him two medical journal articles from psychiatry sources that justified the diagnosis. I basically had to do his job for him. Other things that have been an issue: they don't return phone calls, take several days to answer emails, cancel appointments but don't tell you why, and extremely rude office staff (particularly the Indian woman who works for him). Please do yourself a favor and don't go here.
Really cool guy, very easy to talk to.
Great guy, listened very carefully to me and suggested that we keep in communication between appointments (updates via email, nothing billed).
Dr. Prayaga has been my doctor for two years and he is great.
Have booked another appointment. Dr. Prayaga answered my questions and explained medication and treatment. He was very kind and seemed very well versed in his field. The office is not fancy and the staff is very businesslike. No BS here.
Excellent, attentive, responsive, with carefully considered recommendations and clear explanations.
He was professional and considerate of my medical needs & concerns. He seemed both knowledgeable and kind.
Thought it was a factory operation. Won't go back.
I think he could converse with the patient about how they are feeling and check whether the meds are working or need adjustment. In addition, he should consult with the patients therapist to see how therapy is going. Instead, he just writes the prescriptions and send you on your merry way. I don't think that is proper treatment for medication management.
He was quick and to the point. Probably the quickest psychiatrist appointment I've ever had. I just moved into the area so I needed a new doctor. Dr. Prayaga made my transition easy. I plan on seeing him again soon.
He is really nice. The DC facility is very outdated and I'm not sure why he has so many locations.
He was fine, but he doesn't do refills on prescriptions. Transparent method to charge your insurance--and you--more money than necessary. I already have to pay for the pills at the pharmacy, why do I have to pay a co-pay to literally just pick up a prescription?
Dr. Prayaga is exactly what I was looking for! His DC office is in a great location and his hours make him very accessible and his schedule is fairly open so its not hard to get an evening appointment. Additionally, he and his staff are truly forgiving when life happens. My appointment was at 5:05 but I got hung up at work and ended up not able to leave until 5:15... I called and explained that I was going to be late but wasn't sure how late and was told to come in anyway, the doc would see me as long as I made it in before he left at 5:45. True to their word, I was still allowed to see the doc when I arrived at 5:30. As stated, Dr. Prayaga is exactly what I was looking for... Note that I say "I"... He may not be everyone's cup of tea... I needed a psychiatrist solely for medication management because all of my meds were being managed by my primary care (who always runs late and schedules a month out b/c she's too in-demand) and it was a pain in the hooha... I already have a regiment that works for me - I seriously just needed someone to manage it without a several hour a month commitment (I've got therapy for that LOL)... I provided my medication info in advance and Dr. Prayaga spent about 15 minutes with me discussing my meds, dosages, diagnoses, etc... He was very friendly and open and willing to listen. He expressed a concern about one of my meds and was willing to listen to the reasoning behind it. Once he was comfortable with my existing treatment plan, he wrote my scripts for a 30-day supply and told me to come back in 1 month to follow up... As I said - entire thing was 15 minutes! If you are a person who needs a long appointment with lots of discussion and hand-holding, he may or may not be the person for you... My gut says he wont... If you're like me and completely on top of your health care, entirely too busy, entirely too self-aware, and needs someone who allows you to participate in your medical decisions - SCHEDULE WITH HIM! NOW! YOU WILL BE IN HEAVEN! :-D Last thing... although is office is in a great location and nice building, its just "ok"... It's not the NW DC upscale that I'm accustomed to... its more like a sole practitioner in a smaller suburb... Small and clean with super comfy, non-matching furniture and crap soundproofing. Not even close to something that I care about, but some do so I'm putting it out there.
Arrived late as he was walking out the door, they took care of me regardless. Dr. P is the man!
Very quick and to-the-point. He's very friendly and pleasant - just don't expect him to delve into your life history.
You don't find many caring down to earth doctors in DC, this one is a gem.
Dr. Prayaga continues to be excellent and very efficient. He's a very nice person.
Very easy to talk to and understanding. I think I've finally found a psychiatrist who will listen and discuss with my my treatment in an effective and considerate manner. I'll be back again!
Dr. Prayaga and his office staff are very conscientious of their patients' time. What I most appreciate is their ability to stay on schedule when it seems that every other office I visit has an inability to do so.
With people going in and out it does seem like a bit of a revolving door, and the DC office could use a renovation, but Dr. Prayaga is polite, easy-going, and seems to know what he is talking about. My appointment only lasted about 15-20 minutes; we didn't delve as deep as we would have if he were a therapist, but he did listen to my concerns and discussed medication options with me like an adult. Very professional.
Visit was efficient -- I didn't spend much time in the office. However, there were some patients who did spend considerably more time with Dr. P, which makes me think that he will take whatever amount of time is needed to solve a patient's problems -- which is a good thing! Most patients (including myself) were mostly just there for a medication refill -- if the medication is working properly, a quick consultation should be all that is needed. The only thing I thought a bit odd was that he didn't measure heart rate and blood pressure in the office. This only takes a minute, and for patients taking stimulants (such as ritalin/adderol), it could be useful to monitor vitals in case there are some issues. Maybe this isn't standard or necessary, but my previous psychiatrist did this at our sessions, and it can be reassuring to know that the stimulants aren't having a major impact on your general health. :)
Great doctor, very kind and caring. Takes into account what patients ask for. Loud radio in waiting room that receptionist listens to is very annoying though.
He is one of the best!
He is the best and I have done my home work and been to others. I will recommend him highly.
For a first time consult with psychiatrist, I was amazed he spent approximately 6 minutes with me. Counted he saw 8 or 9 patients in the 25 minutes I spent in the office. He asked very few questions. I am all about efficiency but can he possibly provide a high quality of care seeing so many patients? The guy/ admin person was rough and rushed. A bit scary.
Dr. Prayaba was a good psychiatrist who gave good advice and managed my existing medication (I just moved to another state and was nervous about having to deal with medication issues with all of the other life changes). The appointment was very quick, as were most of the other appointments, but everyone was courteous. Honestly, I appreciate efficiency unless I am having some kind of emergency (which I was not). I cannot attest to his ability to diagnose or deal with difficult pharmacological issues, but for what I saw him for, everything was fine. The office (near Farragut) was in a convenient location, but the aesthetics leave much to be desired. Not a deal-breaker for me, but a bit of decor couldn't hurt.
Very polite and understanding doctor.
Dr. Prayaga has a great manner and his office is very accommodating with scheduling. I came to see him to continue treatment that I was already happy with, so I don't know how I'd rate his ability to treat patients who have no experience with psychiatrists or medication.
He is willing to take the time to listen to all concerns that you may have / want to talk about. He also encourages e-mail communication and is always willing to respond.
I though he really care about patients but I realized that he is more interested in given prescription instead of care about the reason why the patient is there. He was so rude and fast. Never recomended.
My first visit with Rama Prayaga was great!! I showed up about 20 minutes early for my appointment and he was able to take me right then. Very understanding and knowledgeable - great appointment overall!
Very easy going personality. Made me feel comfortable right away.
Dr. Prayaga is great and very empathetic.
Ir was great. He new what he was doing and told me what I needed to do.
He is very kind, understanding & efficient!
Dr. Prayaga, takes care of business. In and out. Appointment went smooth.
You can tell Dr. Rayama truly cares about you feeling the best you can and isn't concerned about simply making money from your office visit. Great doctor.
He was very professional, courteous, and considerate. He worked with me to develop a comprehensive treatment plan and I'm pleased with the results.
I had a good experience and a very nice person who really listens.
Got what i needed in quick manner. Just what I needed.
Easy to talk to
It was pleasant and professional.
Excellent, compassionate doctor with a very different approach on treating my issues. He is clearly a very intelligent psychiatrist and I was very impressed. Although I am an adult he seems to work very well with children as well. I highly recommend this doctor!
Quick, easy and to the point......
Dr. Prayaga is a phenomenal psychiatrist with the ability to allow oneself to be involved in their own decision making with regards to medication and the approach to therapy. He made me feel at ease and made a true effort to suggest ways of managing stress and anxiety which can negatively effect ADHD. I would recommend Dr. Prayaga to abyone who asks about the best psychiatrist in the area.
Dr. Prayaga is always very easy to talk to and very understanding. His office is always timely and works hard to follow their scheduled appointments to be sure that everyone can see the doctor at the time they have scheduled.
He is smart, as a doctor. As a professional also, he is very courteous and prompt. His time is limited, so for counseling or therapy he is able to recommend a therapist that works closely with him. I see him when I need medication, and looking to start seeing the therapist he recommended too.
He seems like a very caring doctor, but very to the point. If you're looking for someone who will listen, provide feedback etc, this isn't the doctor for you. However if you've done drug therapy before, know what works for you, and need someone to supervise just THAT aspect of the treatment process (no fuss, no going in depth) this is the doctor for you. However, if this will be your first time delving into psychotherapy, or using psychiatric drugs, I would go somewhere else.
This was definitely not what I expected. First of all, the office was in a run-down building that looked nowhere near professional. I basically paid to be told "email me if this is still a concern in 3 weeks." It seemed as though every patient there was there for a prescription only. They were in, out, and on their way with papers in hand.
I was really happy with Dr. P he was professional, didn't rush me. I felt like he actually cared about what I had to say. I highly recommend him. After such a horrendous experience with my first psych Dr I walked out of Dr 's office very very happy.
I think he definitely knows what he talking about however his actual office seemed quite dingy for a medical professional and honestly quite unprofessional for a business. As a doctor, I thought it was interesting how many patients he's able to see in such a short amount of time - whether that's a good thing or not, I'm still unsure although he was helpful in my situation. Again, I was thrown off when I walked into the office which contained metal folding chairs, an old couch, and beat up bookshelves that were meant to create a divider between the waiting area and the receptionist.
I have had bizarre experiences at Dr. Prayaga's office...sort of feels like he is just pushing cattle through this office. There are always many people in the waiting room, and he seems to only meet with each person for about 5 minutes. He has only ever spent 5 minutes with me--just enough time for him to ask if my medication is working and to write the new prescription. I have never been to another psychiatrist, so maybe this is the norm, but it seems that he should spend more time with his patients.
He did not show interest in my case.
He was a good doctor, the only problem is he told me to e-mail him back and never game me his e-mail address and spelled my name wrong on the prescription. I had to turn around to make sure he corrected it so I could get my medicine.
Dr. Prayaga is very nice, patient and a have a very proffessional attitude.
As always taken right away and always able to feel free to talk to him anytime
He is a very smart man! Definitely would recommend him.
It was great but bad news is his longer carrying my insurgence next month and I am sad that I have a find another doctor.
Listens to your problems and responds with appropriate measures, always on time which is a huge plus and takes into consideration what has not worked in the past to resolved the issue.
He's able to listen & quickly knows next steps.
Dr. Prayaga is great for me since I just need quick follow ups for my prescribing needs. I do not know about his nature with patients that need more extensive treatment, but if you are a professional in need of simple prescriptions that are easily diagnoses, he is careful with your other medications to ensure safety.
Quick and very thorough.
He seems very rush. Did not give time to answer my questions.
Excellent as always:)
Excellent bedside manner, attentive, and intelligent.
Very personable, takes the time to educate the patient about the diagnosis.
Great doc. Efficient; thoughtful. Would see again, however I have since moved away.
He was able to address all my questions and concerns in a timely manner. My appointment did not take long and I was seen as soon as I was done filling out the new paitent forms. I recommend scheduling appointments with him online (ZocDoc) as oppose to calling. There was an issue with scheduling both times I called to make an appointment.
I appreciate the convenience of evening hours and that his office is close to mine, but a two minute appointment for a psychiatrist is pretty unacceptable. He's probably seeing about 10 patients per hour, where you basically go in, tell him the prescriptions you need refilled and he writes them. There is no check-in as to how things are going or why I might want to increase my dosages (this is psych!!!). And, he doesn't write refills, so you need to go back every month. It seems like he just wants to make some quick money and in an era where very few practitioners are taking insurance for psych visits, he's doing a good job of making what seems like some pretty easy money for himself. In a way, it feels like he's practicing horribly irresponsible medicine, yet because of the convenience, it might not keep me from going back.
Excellent Dr. He's to the point, AND very responsive: perfect combo!!
They should move to Florida !
I'm very satisfied with Dr. Prayaga. No complaints!
Dr. Prayaga is great. I am seen as soon as I arrive to the office and his staff is always very quick and efficient with any paperwork.
Never remembered my name, profession or medication. Didn't bill my insurance correctly--horrible insurance administrator was extremely hard to reach and uncooperative. The assistant who booked appointments over the phone was friendly. No privacy in waiting room--must pay before you see the dr or you cannot go in. Herds patients through like cattle--not a safe enviornment. Don't expect to spend more than 5 minutes with him.
I have seen the doctor for a long time and his treatment and non-agressive approach have helped me get thru a lot and get back to my daily life. The staff changed about a year ago and how it is run is not as flexible and efficient as it used to be.
Very nice, thoughtful MD
After the THIRD time my appointment was missing in their calendar (after booking online), I have given up on this provider. He is polite, but I had to tell him my prescriptions each time. Overall, it seems like neither he nor his office cares about the patient or their own business. Disappointing.
These guys are truly professionals and helped me out when I really needed it. Thank you Vandana for all you do to help me even though she wishes I would go away. I have sent 5 ppl. there and they enjoy the staff and efficiency and they are doing the same as I did and recommending you to there friends and family.
Never again. Pill pushers
Helpful and efficient. Doesn't spend too much time on follow-up appointments, but for someone doing med management, that's not a problem (even a good thing with a tight schedule).
Great. No problems. Helps me right away.
He need to interact with his patients more by at least asking how are you doing with the meds, any problems since last seen and how are you doing in general, do your meds need adjusting any set-backs or out-bursts etc? Not just write the prescription and send the patient in his/her merry way.
As always, wondrrful visit. Always remebers me. Never has to look thru file first. Even remembers my meds:)
He's a great doctor, very friendly, wise and to the point. Highly recommend him.
Definitely efficient and easy to book, with convenient hours. That may be because he sees easily 10 patients an hour. He cannot remember a single detail of your personal file and does not appear to take notes. Refills whatever prescription you claimed to have had and sends you on your way. Great if that's what you're looking for, but if you need some guidance on actually treating medical issues and figuring out the best regiment, I would recommend going to someone who has the time and interest in listening to their patients rather than just shoving them out the door after a copay. (Which you must pay every month, bc he won't write refills).
Open to conversation. Very understanding. Knowledgeable and firm at the same time.
Best doctor i have seen. Always has the best advice and cares what is best for his patients. I will never want or have any other doctor!
He was not what I expected. Need to find a new doctor... Again.
Front desk staff is barely in a good mood. Doctor and receptionist were both late opening the office.
Dr. P. is very attentitive and follows up. Very personable.
excellent!! as ALWAYS:)
Dr. Prayaga does a good job and is a pleasure to speak with. I am happy with his care and would recommend him. Dr Prayaga has online appointment booking, multiple offices, and flexible appointment times which make him very accessible.
There was no one in the office for the first 20 minutes after I arrived, but once I saw the doctor, he was helpful, though rushed.
Nice doctor, but don't spend much time with each patient
The office is dismal. But you are in and out in minutes. So if you just need medication management it is fine.
It was fast and efficient
Dr. Prayaga was extremely attentative and took time to answer all my questions.
very short only got my prescription refilled he seemed in a hurry
He still claims my insurance is a in-network provider. Before I got to the office and after I got to the office. I get a bill and he isn't and still lists on Zoc Doc that he is. I felt rushed. He has files on the floor in the waiting room in which I was able to see other patient information. The receptionist said, "Please excuse the mess this weekend." No don't excuse the mess clean it up!
He's straight to the point, but always takes time to listen and re-evaluate treatment when needed. I appreciate him as my doctor.
Fantastic! Listened and understood my needs. Prescribed correct medication and Explained everything clearly and quickly.
Don't judge based on the office in Falls Church! Dr. Prayaga is great. He listens and provides great recommendations. He involves you in the decision making around your treatment. I highly recommend Dr. Prayaga.
Dr. Prayaga has been my psychiatrist for over 2 years. Dr, Prayaga is very knowledgeable in the field of psychiatry as well as in general medicine. Dr. Prayaga is an exceptionally good doctor. I highly recommend Dr. Prayaga and his office.
i was very happy
I felt very rushed. Dr. Prayaga barely looked up at me, barely in my direction. This time I'm disappointed with my visit.
I have been doing a lot better since I started coming to DR Prayaga. He is so patient and wise.
Went very well. Would highly recommend for time and quality of visit.
NEVER EVER AGAIN. rudest staff i have ever seen in my entire life. TERRIBLE!!!!!!
Amazing Person. Amazing Man.
Good. Was late, but wasn't doctor's fault. Waiting room could be more comfortable, particularly when there are a number of people waiting.
Terrible, dirty, smelly office and completely unprofessional manner.
Extremely professional, great bedside manners and listened to me.
Very kind person.
I went in skeptical-came out relieved. This guy knew my whole life story after I gave him a 5 min synopsis. If you are on the fence about talking to someone about something that has been on your mind for years; do yourself a favor and visit this doc.
Great online service by being able to make appointments!
Appointment time was changed by 20 minutes. Wasnt what I needed...
A very kind man with a good rapport with my son. Seemed sensible, engaged, and lacking the knowitall quality that many doctors exude. The office is a very spare setup in an eclectic building in Falls Church. Dr. Prayaga, however, is much more impressive.
My first visit there was a wait, but I think that had more to do with the initial patient on-boarding processing than inefficiency. If you are generally aware of what you need I highly recommend this doctor, he gave great insight and recommendations, while still respecting my thought process.
