More about Dr. Rao Yalamanchili, MD
For over 35 years, Dr. Rao Yalamanchili has been providing quality allergy and asthma care for thousands of patients in the metropolitan New York area. His rare distinction of being board certified in both internal medicine and pediatrics, in addition to allergy and immunology, has allowed him to provide outstanding care to both adults and children. Dr. Rao has played an integral role in running one of the largest allergy and immunology training programs in the US and has been responsible for training over a hundred allergists since 1977.
After graduating from medical school, Dr. Rao earned a Masters of Science degree in nutrition from the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Columbia University, New York City. He then completed residencies in both pediatrics and internal medicine, followed by a fellowship in allergy and immunology at Long Island College Hospital. Afterwards, Dr. Rao was appointed as a clinical assistant professor of medicine at SUNY-Downstate medical center in Brooklyn, as well as Vice Chairman of Allergy and Immunology at Long Island College Hospital.
Dr. Rao has served as chairman of the Allergy section of the Medical Society of the State of New York. He is also an active fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, and various regional, state and local medical societies. He has made numerous scientific presentations at national meetings, and he has authored many articles, which have been published in various medical journals. As an expert and educator in the field, Dr. Rao has organized conferences aimed to update practicing physicians on developments in the treatment of food allergies, asthma, and other allergic disorders.
Dr. Rao and his wife, Sujatha, have made Staten Island their home for over 30 years. Over this time, many of his original patients have had children (or grandchildren) of their own who have also become patients.

Dr Rao was excellent! I loved his empirical approach and he spent a great deal of time discussing my son’s case, which was a disappearing/reappearing body rash. Medication was not the first pathway he offered, but rather a lifestyle/diet change, which I was much more agreeable to try first. He then gave me a script for bloodwork if those changes did not work over the next month, to be absolutely sure of a potential allergy tendency. Such a warm, welcoming, and most importantly knowledgeable man, who really made me feel as though he truly cared and that we weren’t just a number being called in from the waiting room. He even asked me if I needed help to my car due to all of the things I had with me (my son is only 5 months old). I would highly recommend him to anyone!

The doctor was thorough and didn't rush when talking to me. However, two things will keep me from recommending him:
1) The waiting time was 2 hours (with an appointment and me being there on time).
2) When his assistant called me to confirm that my allergy test results were ready, I specifically asked to check and let me know if it's all negative so that I can skip a follow-up visit and avoid chilling out in a waiting room. She talked to the doctor and told me he wants to discuss something with me, so I have to make an appointment. Well, there was nothing to discuss - I saw the doctor, he confirmed that my results are negative and I don't have any allergies. I felt tricked into making another appointment and losing my time there, not to mention additional bucks spent on co-pay for just 5 minutes of doctor's time.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE! - if you are planning on going for allergy consultation/testing make sure you are off any allergy meds (although you are permitted to use nasal spray) for 5 days prior to your scheduled appointment (hence plan the appointment accordingly). The allergy meds will mask your true allergies. Otherwise you will have a very pleasant and thorough conversation with the doctor about your allergy history however you will not be tested and will need to make (and subsequently pay for) a follow up appointment.

Dr. Yalamanchili was the best allergist I have seen in my entire 30 years of life. My whole life I suffered from mystery allergies. Always blamed on cats and dogs by other doctors. Dr. Yalamanchili was able to find what was really going on with my immune system within 2 visits. Something that no other doctor has been able to do for years. Dr Yalamanchili has great bedside manner, is humorous and truly cares to get to know his patients and listen to their concerns. He was very thorough and explanatory . He is absolutely my favorite doctor in my team of doctors and I will continue to see him. . I am very happy to have become a new of his patients. He is trustworthy. Within one visit he had already figured out half of what was wrong with me. By the second visit he had the rest of answers and a treatment plan. The office is incredibly clean and the recepcionist is a sweet heart and cares about the patients as well. I WILL CONTINUE to be a patient regardless If i have to come from far!

There was a little bit of a wait despite the office having few patients but since Dr. Yalamanchili is a specalist I feel like it comes with the territory as he has to pay more attention to detail.
