I am a dual-certified nurse practitioner with more than 15 years of experience treating a wide range of mental health and medical disorders.
As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I am committed to providing comprehensive mental health care; I have extensive knowledge of psychopharmacology and its uses in a variety of mental health disorders. Common theoretical approaches in my practice include cognitive perspective, behavioralist, humanistic psychology, social learning theory, and developmental theories.
I work with the adult and geriatric populations and specialize in mood disorders, including depression and bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, OCD, PTSD, and ADHD.
As a provider, I promote an environment of comfort and mutual trust. The patient must feel comfortable discussing their inner emotions without the fear of judgment. It is essential that the patient feels understood and knows that my role as their provider is to meet their needs.
My journey to becoming a mental health provider began when I was a registered nurse working on a chemical dependency unit. Most patients were dual-diagnosed, having existing depression, anxiety, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. I enjoyed listening to my patients' experiences, learning group therapy, and attending lead groups and meetings. I developed a passion for serving this vulnerable group. I decided to continue my career with a focus on becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner and helping individuals with mental health disorders to live their best lives.
I strive to empower patients on their journey toward improved mental well-being by utilizing holistic treatment and considering biological, social, and psychological factors that may influence mental health. Time is dedicated to patient education and goal setting, and the patient's needs are respected and prioritized.
