Dr. Richard Harris at The Woodland Park Medical Clinic has been a family practitioner since 1974. The clinic is located 20 miles west of Colorado Springs, CO.
He completed his undergraduate studies in Biology at the University of California, San Diego, in 1969 and received his medical degree from The University of Southern California in 1973. He began private practice as the last Idarado Mine doctor in Telluride where he worked for two years, and then spent another two years practicing emergency medicine at St. Mary-Corwin Hospital in Pueblo.
He opened his first clinic in Woodland Park at the Gold Hill Square Shopping Center in1978. Ten years later he was able to build his own office next to the high school, where he continues to provide comprehensive primary medical care for residents of the Ute Pass area.
He believes that good patient care involves prevention as well as effective and safe treatment for medical and surgical problems. He bases his care on a thorough understanding of both the patient and the problem being treated, and will take as much time as is necessary with each patient to achieve this level of care.
Dr. Harris has been a member of the Association Board of Directors of the Pikes Peak Regional Hospital since 1998. In that capacity, he and the other board members designed and built the hospital which opened in 2007, and provides critical access medical care to Woodland Park and all of Teller County. The hospital association is now in the process of designing and building an extended care facility on the hospital campus.
Dr. Harris enjoys hiking, skiing, and swimming, and is an avid reader. He and his wife, Grace, are very proud of their two children, Darcy, a lawyer, and Brian, an opera singer.
