Bob Smithing has been a family nurse practitioner (FNP) since 1981. He has expertise with teenagers, women’s health, asthma treatment, and dermatology.
He holds a master of science in nursing (MSN) degree from the University of Pennsylvania and board certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a family nurse practitioner. He also studied nursing as an undergraduate student at State University of New York (SUNY) in Buffalo.
Bob has received many honors and awards for his leadership and contributions to the field of nursing in the past 30 years. He is a past president of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and served on the original board of the American College of Nurse Practitioners.
Bob is the recipient of the Sharp Cutting Edge Leadership Award – an award given once a year by the American College of Nurse Practitioners and bestowed upon an outstanding nurse who has demonstrated leadership above and beyond. He is also the recipient of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners’ Washington State Outstanding Nurse Practitioner award.
In addition, Bob is a fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP), a prestigious honor held only by only 1 of 500 nurse practitioners in the United States. He was also mentioned in Seattle magazine's article "Top Doctors: The Super Nurse."
Bob has previously been on the editorial board of the Journal for Nurse Practitioners and Clinician Reviews and has been the co-editor of ARNP Care since 1989. He is founder of the website NPCentral.net.
Bob is a clinical faculty member for the University of Washington and Pacific Lutheran University, educating the next generation of family nurse practitioners. Several times a year, he can be found teaching classes on IUD placement, women’s health.

Excellent care at each & every visit. Bob Smithing is a wonderful caregiver. Thorough, precise and always has a smile. My first visit was great, as have been all of my visits since.

I always feel confident that my questions will be answered and I feel comfortable every time I come in. My children love to come in because Bob is gentle with them.

Dr. Bob is wonderful. Everytime I come to see him he always takes his time to make sure everything is covered. The other doctors I have gone to always try to get you in and out as fast as possible. The nurses and office staff are just as amazing! :)

Dr. Smithing and staff are always wonderful & professional. I never feel rushed & Mr. Smithing is very through & very understanding. He keeps up to date on medical research & tests. I completely trust him with my health, both in illness & preventative measures. I would highly recommend him if you are looking for a skilled and approachable healthcare provider.
